orange and pink strokes paint the horizon, followed by a thin layer of gold. slateport looks like a work of art, now more than ever—life inspires art, and art inspires life. spotted along the surface, specks of white twinkle like stars in the night sky. from afar, they could be easily confused as reflections of the firmament. they are not. it is a procession of pokémon that

illuminates

the way, and it starts all the way up in the city's outskirts. the trip begins with a full house, guided by another set of land pokémon.

the crescent that makes up taffy’s tail undulates, and her body is propelled forward. the two spheres of light attached to her head twinkle brightly. a third sphere appears, an

electrified ball

that slowly begins to fade as it progresses. the bundle of light swims even faster to alert the pokémon up ahead of the incoming train.

taffy follows the structure of the translucent underwater tunnel with swift, confident movements. matching the speed of the train is not a priority, as their collective light spans multiple miles.

Zasa floated along the second marker several kilometers down, acting as a warning for the impending sharp curve that would come. Its COSMIC POWER softly glowed within the large gem at its center, a chamber to seemingly infinite stars and colorful nebulas. As the train approaches, these stars and nebulas begin to glow and flash with intensity. Until, finally, its gem is filled with a light like the sun, transforming Zasa into a bright and unmissable beacon.

The alien lifeform spins around in place as the train passes with an echoed clamor. One wonders whether that is the best expression of 'joy' it can muster. Or whether it had been attempting to convey something entirely different. Regardless, the light in its gem dims once the train has passed. Its job is done.

the shiinotic stands on the ground perfectly, trained for this moment as any others should know. it's a plant and it does what plants do best: doing nothing and looking pretty.

the way it illuminates the way becomes rather captivating as the sky turns dark. a certain fairy tale wonder charms the contrasting modern feel of the hoenn trains, giving the passengers something to stare at during their trip.

unfortunately, the job is only temporary. children would have to hope for another accident to experience this extravagance brought by these pokemon.

As a Ranger's Pokemon, Nephelai is no stranger to lighting the way. The friendly Lanturn lets out a happy trill as she's directed by her handlers for the day, bumping her snout against a hand before turning to swim along the designated path.[break][break]

When she reaches her marker, Nephelai's light glows bright and welcoming. Another Lanturn follows the train's intended route, alerting its fellows of the incoming locomotive. Sure enough, it approaches not long after.[break][break]

Nephelai chitters as the train passes by, performing tricks underwater to amuse the passengers staring idly from the windows. Her lantern lights sway with the motion, but not once does their glow falter or dim. In no time at all, the train has passed her by.

Ruby, Katherine’s Starmie, felt a bit out of place now that it was standing near the train’s railroads. The water-type felt only at peace when surrounded by water, and the lack of it certainly took a toll on its mind.

It stood in place, stiff as a rock, as light shined from its ruby gem to illuminate the road as instructed - but mostly in order to distract itself from how lonely it felt. After all, it was used to working in a team or at the very least with its trainer watching over it - never like this, never alone.

Starmie is quick to depart as soon as the train passes by and it knows that its job has been fulfilled.

Gemini isn't used to working alone, but they are growing accustomed to the feeling. Being trusted by their trainer to handle a job like this by themselves was sure quite the honor. They stood waiting patiently, slowly spinning in place as their red gem helped ILLUMINATE the train tracks to make it as safe to travel as possible.

Bright light shining like a SPOTLIGHT, the Starmie was quite excited to see the first train pass by. Spinning quite rapidly. Of course, for a Pokemon with no face to show its emotions the passengers had no way of knowing the joy it felt from a job well done. Ever reliable, Gemini stood proud, refusing to leave before everything was assuredly said and done.

[attr="class","spiral"]the abundance of water pokemon makes the lanturn feel right at home. even without a good source of water, the pokemon manages to navigate by waddling on land and maintaining a slick underside through periodically releasing moisture. its hanging lights help ILLUMINATE the darkness much like the others, with a flickering static that discharges every so often.

the pokemon stays in line with the others, following in suit.
