At first it's the tracks left by pokemon that lure him in, but soon enough it's the musky scent of a campfire that holds the most sway of Aedan. It couldn't hurt to find its source; it might even behoove him to make sure it wasn't a natural bushfire that might encroach upon the city. As he heads further out of the city, the pungent odor grows.[break][break]

It has been so very long since he's roamed freely that he can't help pursuing its source. Along the way he passes by a couple folks riding on horses coming from the direction of the smoke trail. When he reaches the source, he sees a silver-haired trainer.

Irrefutable proof they lived in a multiverse.

Aedan had been allowed by his parents to go looking for wild pokemon, only while his mother prepared their Thanksgiving dinner; slaving away in the kitchen was bothersome enough work without their little cherub constantly underfoot. So she sent him away.

Still, from the sudden change of pace, Aedan would've thought he'd woken up in a different reality.

He can smell pumpkin spice in the air well after he leaves Rustboro City limits.

Rather than suffer through another one of their shouting matches, he'd defer their little battle to another point down the road.[break][break]

Aedan locates a spare rake and grabs it, gesturing it with a subtle lift. "Maybe if we finish this quick, but I have to go home real soon after." Parents could be a drag, but they only wanted what was best for Aedan, thus they sheltered him overly.

Taking off without another word, bounding through the layout of the farm that lie between them and the Wooloo, Aedan worried for his Pap in light of his age. And it was exactly like he said before: Ranching wasn't easy, but his Pap was the best there was. If the Wooloo were running amok without his Pap in sight... something was amiss.[break][break]

Aedan would arrive at the scene and find not his Pap, but the Wooloo being harried by a Lycanroc nipping at their heels. A pity he hadn't a pokemon on him, so Aedan did the next best thing and grabbed a loose stone left in the yard. "Hey, you bingus!"[break][break]

Pelting it on the side of its ribs, Aedan earned only its ire. *Gulp*

The unown origin of the wisp eluded him, leading him by the nose into the tall grass before vanishing. In its wake he found himself toe-to-toe with a Teddiursa, which raised its thumb meekly to its muzzle and began suckling on the honey gathered there.

Seeing as it posed little threat, and that interacting with it further would only provoke a wild Ursaring if nearby, he decided to turn tail and gave up on his little chase before his coach could figure out he'd gone and run off.

"Awwh!" The next wild pokemon they encountered was much less hostile, and even if it had, he doubted it would be of much harm to any of his classmates. The silly Spinda could barely keep its footing, tangled feet carrying it aimlessly through their midst. Many of them stop to pet the creature, while the instructor doubles back.

While they're distracted by the Spinda, Aedan notices a wisp floating harmlessly near the tall grass. When he locks his gaze upon it, the light flits away, disappearing from view. With Wilbur at his side, he feels safe investigating...

"Wow, yer kinda creepy!" Aedan was thankful to have Wilbur by his side. Although the pokemon wasn't demonstrating any extreme aggression, he wasn't going to turn down an opportunity for practice. Besides, whatever this thing was, it looked particularly unsettling.

"Sick 'em, boy!" Wilbur hastily runs down the Claydol, rime-coated tusks raising upwards to rake its tender underbelly as it levitated overhead. Though it was hardly enough to drop the entity, it did well enough to send it off. Though he was eager to hunt it down, Aedan couldn't detour from his cross country team too much, forced to watch it flee.

"Good job, Wilbur," he says, patting its hump back.

Aedan balled his right fist and brought it down into the palm of his left hand, eyes lighting up in response to Cat's question regarding his shorthand over text earlier that morning. "Oh, it means 'let me know'."[break][break]

It caught him off guard that she hadn't known that, but it wasn't the most surprising thing he'd learned today. More specifically, Cat called his attention to the egg she'd brought with her. "Oh woooooooooow! Where'd ya get that!?" Totes jelly.[break][break]

Aedan examines the mottled exterior of its shell before declaring: "It's hard ta say! Its shell would normally clue ya in, but this one could be anythin'." Typically a purebred pokemon egg would present an eggshell resembling the species it would hatch into, but when they were blotchy and undefined like this, it generally meant the parents belonged to separate species sharing an egg group; his Grandpa knew way more about it than him, though they'd have to find him first.[break][break]

"We should go find my Pap, he'll be able to tell us, and he'll prolly wanna meet ya!~" Aedan approached Cat and tried to lead her by the wrist, taking a hold of her hand and directing her towards the ranch house further in the property.

Piloswine went from melancholy to fuming malice at the amount of disrespect it was getting from the two of them. They couldn't remember its name, Aedan had failed to say anything nice about it; they had both earned a spot on his sh#t list.[break][break]

"Ya, yer close. He's a Piloswine." Leaning over, Aedan strokes his fingers through its coarse fibers of hair, feeling the heat radiating off of his piggy companion.
