"Oh. My name's Aedan. And this is Rikki!" He slapped his Zangoose against the back, which it responded to with a resentful look, but otherwise waved a clawed hand at the stranger as courtesy.

"I live in Rustboro, but I'm lookin' for a star I saw fallin' the other night!" His eyes twinkled with an unmatched glee, his earnest intrigue expressed through that signature youthful enthusiasm. "I haven't found it yet, though..."

It wasn't a frown, but his lips tightened into a flat line, like he was downtrodden by the lack of gratification his searching had yielded thus far.

"Whaddabout you? Why're you out here?"

It wasn't really his business, and he wasn't too pressed to find out, but it seemed only right to ask them a little bit about themselves. 'Sharing' or something like that, right? He'd learned it somewhere before, probably from his parents.

So to him, manners mattered. He wore a goofy smile as he awaited a response from his...

...Were they friends now? Hrm... I think so!

It seemed as though Aedan had a penchant for landing himself into trouble; perhaps he should count himself lucky that his Zangoose, Rikki, had just as much a knack for getting him out of it.

As Aedan had brazenly navigated Petalburg Woods, seeking all manner of critter, they came across a spot of corruption amidst the thicket of trees and brush. Already the enemy had come so close to his home, all without them knowing. Or at least him.



As soon as Rikki and Aedan crossed towards the ongoing conflict, Rikki took the initiative, even thrusting Aedan backwards behind him before taking off. With its blinding speed it rushed headlong into battle—for the sake of a small boy.

During its skirmish with the wild pokemon it became inextricably coated with the volatile substance pooling in the forest, and yet it showed no signs of corruption. No, in fact, it had become all the stronger for it... this poison was its boon.

"R-rikki!" A voice cries out from behind, but the beast knows only its battle lust as it charges forth unimpeded by the ghastly, grim remnant with its mouth agape as it whooped with laughter. But as its ghostly influence raked at Rikki only to pass right through it, Rikki leapt and raised its claws high as its pursuit finally brought it face-to-face with the enemy. "RaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAGH!"

Successfully hypnotizing the Krookodile had allowed Rikki to dispense the punishment befitting the crime, putting the Krookodile in a world of pain before it was whisked inside the pokeball. But that didn't stop him from snorting and snickering with laughter when Andy hit the ground. 'Ha ha ha...'

His was a shrill, innocent sort of laughter. But perhaps that wounded the ego all the same.

"Nice job," he offered as praise to the other kid with a thumbs up, although he wasn't sure if he should bother. They seemed apprehensive, and prickly by nature. Aedan wasn't sure if they were annoyed by him or not. Maybe only slightly?

But then, he hadn't done much to impress. But rather than linger on that note, he quickly fixated on his fascination with their Gengar. Wowie...!

"I can't believe you have a Gengar. Aren't they supposed to be super duper hard to train?" There were other pokemon encroaching on the area, but they appeared much more docile, and infantile in nature. Aedan felt a bit more at ease considering.

"Oh, uh, hi." Rikki was busy trying to catch a scent when another kid stumbled up to them giving greetings that didn't match their glaring expression. "Did I, uh, offend you or something?"

Rikki doesn't take much of an interest, instead sticking its nose skyward and sniffling curiously, perhaps detecting a strange scent while the humans converse. "Why're you glaring at me like that? Do I even know you, bro...?"

There isn't time enough to answer when they're beset upon by feral creatures skulking after their trails, Rikki taking a defensive position between Aedan and the opposing Krookodile. He tried to hide it, but Aedan could tell Rikki was intimidated by the pokemon; who wouldn't shy away from confrontation with something a foot taller than themselves? Aedan couldn't help but feel guilty forcing Rikki into this situation, but he'd confidence in their shared potential. "Rikki, Sword Dance."

While Rikki bided its time and honed its strengths, Krookodile struck, causing the ground to tremble with an earthquake that disturbed their footing, causing Aedan to fall on his rump. Oof, that smarts! Rikki managed far better, although the hidden Gengar would surely suffer as an adjacent target. Not that it was really Aedan's problem.

"Alright buddy, use Slash on the Cubone!"

The Krookodile gave him the creeps, and Aedan doubted he'd be able to take it on alone. But the Cubone, on the other hand, was child's play.

Which suited him perfectly, considering.

As it so happened the Cubone gave up after a single attack, crying on its hands and knees in the dirt while the Krookodile dug its feet in.

Aedan knew all it'd take was for Rikki to get a good hit in, but he doubted the Krookodile would offer them the chance. But it was his only option.

"Rikki, X-Scissor," he doubted it'd make it in time as the Krookodile seemed to begin burrowing into the ground to make a hasty retreat...

Aedan's gasp echoed throughout the cavern at the sight of it. "Oh my gosh, it's a slowpoke!"

Never before had he encountered one in person, but he'd heard a few things. An Elite Four in Kanto used to use one, and their tails were purported to grow back, and made a rather tasty treat to boot.

"Rikki, we gotta catch it," he muttered to them, though Rikki seemed reluctant. But Aedan knew how to sweet talk Rikki whenever he was being disagreeable. "Pretty pleeeeeeeeaase?"

Zangoose let out a sigh with a drop of its chin, before padding the distance between it and the slowpoke innocently squatting against the damp stone floor. It didn't react back, let alone resist.

"ALRIGHT! Thanks Rikki," he said, giving Rikki a few scrithces against its ears before turning around to begin the journey back home through the cave.
Rikki helps Aedan subdue Slowpoke.

After his trip through Meteor Falls proved folly (although catching Dopey had been a rather solid consolation prize,) Aedan had made it a point to use the rest of his summer finding that fallen star he so desperately sought. And that had brought him here to Route 114, clad in his practice clothes for baseball, prepared to get down and dirty.

At his side was Rikki once again, perhaps his most reliable and mature pokemon, one that he'd brought with him everywhere to avoid trouble.

The air here was heavy like miasma from the heavy soot that floated down from Mt. Chimney. It gave him spontaneous coughing fits on and off.

Rikki grasped at his trainer with a pleading expression, tugging him to go back home...

"Nah, just a bit longer. It's only noon..."

As they went along, Aedan and Rikki came to cross paths with a poliwhirl. It seemed startled by Aedan's appearance, though it wasn't outright hostile, but wary and distrusting of him as a trainer. Awh, sorry buddy. Didn't mean to scare ya.

Aedan tugged Rikki back down the way they'd came, navigating an adjacent cavern. Rikki didn't seem particularly thrilled the way his fur became matted with the damp dew clinging to the walls.

"Lemme know if you get cold buddy, Wilbur can always tag in," he said while patting Rikki on the shoulder. "He could use the exercise..."

Zangoose began snickering at the comment almost immediately, the sound echoing throughout the cavernous expanse of Meteor Falls.

Aedan was pretty sure he'd seen a shooting star fall last night. Something had seared through the sky last night while he lie in bed counting Dubwool. Unlike anything he'd seen before, it burned with an unusual blue glow. It had been on his mind for the rest of the night, and so he'd hiked away from home to come check it out. Alongside Rikki.

"C'mon, let's go deeper," he motioned for his Zangoose to follow, although it seemed apprehensive about Meteor Falls. But Aedan was all youthful exuberance, and didn't see the dangers for what they were. Deeper into the canals he went. What might he find out here, he wondered?

aedan is a generally spritely youth who loves pokemon, nature and space. catching and training for battle is one of his favorite pastimes, but before he was old enough to own a pokemon, aedan played sports: soccer in the fall, volleyball in the winter, baseball in the spring and swimming in the summer. in his downtime, he enjoys looking up to the stars.[break][break]

life was good to him until the three day war. their world has seen much turmoil before and since, but the threat of an outworld event perturbed many citizens, namely his parents. aedan has endured a form of house arrest for some time, unable to leave rustboro per his parents' instructions. this caused him to focus on his studies and extracurricular activities, but has tanked his social skills.[break][break]

but he longs to run free again. it started with a midnight escapade to meteor falls. where else might it go?
