At first it's the tracks left by pokemon that lure him in, but soon enough it's the musky scent of a campfire that holds the most sway of Aedan. It couldn't hurt to find its source; it might even behoove him to make sure it wasn't a natural bushfire that might encroach upon the city. As he heads further out of the city, the pungent odor grows.[break][break]

It has been so very long since he's roamed freely that he can't help pursuing its source. Along the way he passes by a couple folks riding on horses coming from the direction of the smoke trail. When he reaches the source, he sees a silver-haired trainer.

It had the makings of a horror flick: Derek is both disarmed by their seeming innocence, yet put off by their eerie and unannounced presence.[break][break]

"...Hi there. You can come out now."[break][break]

He rolls one kebab of berries over halfway, grasping at another that could soon be offered to the individual. Now that he was a true ranger, he might as well grow his social circle among Hoenn's youth.

Aedan steps out realizing he was awkwardly staring while the other noticed, his cheeks flushed and rosy as he steps forward meekly. "I smelled the smoke, and I thought maybe it was a forest fire..." He licked his lips as the smell of roasted berries filled his nostrils. He takes a few steps forward, approaching a log adjacent to the campfire.[break][break]

"I'm Aedan, by the way," he said in greeting, hoping to diffuse the awkward tension.[break][break]

His stomach growled, staring at the feast of berry kebabs. "Are those... any good...?"

"Why don't you try some?" After sitting down the skewer missing a hunk of meat, Derek grabs for a thermos full of pumpkin spice coffee, taking a swig before offering it to the lad.

While his dulled eyes stare into the starry-eyed youth's, he calls to mind the events that led to him acquiring the mysterious device.[break][break]

"You know what an unown is, right?" Derek takes out the device, flicking through to the Pokerus report and showing it to Aedan. "I'm helping to fill this out for some people." Derek takes another bite out of his kebab.[break][break]

"I should get back to it soon, honestly." He had time to finish lunch, and maybe a prayer that the next one he saw didn't try to kill him like with Stormy.

"Yeah, why?" Never had Aedan owned or encountered one personally, but he'd read about them in history class a bit. Most people thought they were useless, and he wasn't exactly their biggest advocate, though he personally thought they seemed neat. The stories surrounding them however... those were just plain creepy.[break][break]

Seems unlikely though. Leaning forward and returning the device, he felt the warmth of the fire roiling just a foot from his outstretched arm, basking in its warmth.

"I am a trainer, though. So was my grandpa, and my da." They had both given it up after a time, but his grandpa still had that twinkle in his eye when a feral pokemon encroached on his herd. It was too bad his father had become disillusioned from a dream shared by most all. Abruptly, Aedan realizes he is imposing on this trainer's privacy, and seeks to excuse himself.[break][break]

"Thanks for the hospitality mister. I'll get goin' now."[break][break]

Waving at them to dismiss himself, Aedan heads home.
