by sheer coincidence, lance finds himself buddied up with a trainee ranger which means he hasn't had an opportunity to better familiarize himself with them or their status in the force.[break][break]

"so, uh, welcome to the rangers?"[break][break]

he blinks at his partner as they trek down into AREA ZERO.[break][break]

"as a captain i really should know better but that's on me. i'm lance," he offers his hand, chuckling.

having spent far too long chained to the leg of his desk that sits in a comfortable office of the lilycove rangers hq, lance has had enough, unable to stifle the urge any longer. he is a free spirit who lives for the thrill, seeking danger and adrenaline because that is when he feels most alive.[break][break]

it's with a breath of fresh air that he descends into the GIANT CHASM, quick to find action.[break][break]

"you're such a fucking menace!"[break][break]

his laughter bubbles, echoing through the caverns as he chases after his HEAT ROTOM that's hot on a WALKING WAKE's tail. the paradox pokemon slithers away, running right into the side of the cavern before breaking into the same area sidney tsuda is resting in.[break][break]

when the dust settles and the rubble stills, lance follows into the clearing, confidence affixed to his grin.[break][break]

pushed back down only to come back up again, he meets her halfway, kissing her in the dark of the closet.[break][break]

it's a good thing the door's already closed. he'd hate to have to get up only for the sake of their privacy, though it's not like he would have minded much.[break][break]

lance has always had a complicated relationship with ghost-types. it started in sinnoh, at the old chateau at the edge of eterna forest. he doesn't bother reliving those memories now, choosing instead to focus on the wonderful sight of sidney tsuda before him.[break][break]

with a playful grin, he reaches up to her cheek in a gentle caress with the back of his finger.[break][break]

unfortunately for aaron faust, lance doesn't care enough to have followed their impressive run in the vct. he's too busy for stuff like that.[break][break]

it's a shame he doesn't even get to see aaron faust's impressive display now with their DYNAMAX BAND. his attention is with Greyson Connors as they tend to a horde of ULTRA BEASTS.[break][break]

his shedinja slashes away but the numbers are against them.[break][break]

Greyson Connors is quick to blame aaron faust but should the blame not be cast onto lance instead? after all, he was the one to make the suggestion knowing that aaron's simpleton mind would follow it without question.[break][break]

together, they land on the ground in what could have been a tangled mess but isn't only because he hits the floor first, taking most of the impact before feeling her weight landing on him right after.[break][break]

the momentum tips him back, however, and he ends up laying flat on the ground with the wind knocked out of him.[break][break]

it's hard to mistake the screaming in the distance only for lance to realize that they're actually not that far away at all. in fact, as he raises his hand to shut aaron faust up, he hears it more clearly now.[break][break]

"oh shit, it's coming from the wires."[break][break]

as haunting as that revelation is, he does his best to focus on the objective, turning back to try and clear the wiring instead so that they can explore the crashed spacecraft.[break][break]

30 hear haunting human-like or pokemon-like screams within the electrical currents of this world.

but with his shirt balled up in her fist, stopping him from pulling any more fast moves on her, he knows what must be done. it's only fair, after all, since he did try to sacrifice her earlier.[break][break]

"you got it."[break][break]

taking the lead (forced to), he steps in the direction he thinks is the door and reaches out for the handle, surprised to find it at all.[break][break]

but the moment he twists it to pull, a face appears through the closed door, somehow bright and visible. he lets out a weird sound of shock and surprise before stumbling back into her, losing his footing in the process.
