The crinkle of snack food bags and sloshing of liter sodas sounded from the man, along with the wrinkling of plastic bags; a holster for all the unhealthy selections that had been picked out for their scandalous night of gossip and storytelling.

Kim- arms hung to the side of himself with said bags within- would give a bright smile to Francie, a chuckle following his words.

“Me too~ I haven’t been able to hang out with my friends as much as I’d like to, so this is like extremely cathartic for me.”

He had given a notice earlier in the day that any events planned for the day following would be canceled, the councilman himself likely not wanting to be in the mood to attend them after this night.

The two arrived within a few minutes, a grounded home within the city of treetops coming into view as Kim reached for a key, juggling the various bags in order to properly open the door.

Once they were in, Kim would give the classic, “Make yourself at home.” comment, a display of furnishing matching the cities overall aesthetic lining the walls of the room; a few non-traditional items found here and there sprinkled in the mix.

“What the hell?!”

He exclaims loudly, hands jutting outward in an expressive manner, the cotton candy almost slipping from his grasp as he moved.

“That’s way worse than me almost dying, Franny!”

He grabs hold of her free hand, pulling her along with a serious expression.

“C’mon, we’ve gotta get some fun in you. Gods knows you need it at this point.”

Kim was more than ready to spend his entire day with the girl, forgoing any other thoughts of making any appearances or leaving early in order to give her the time of her life in the hours they had remaining.

A free hand gives Fernando the universal symbol for o.k., Kim’s other hand holding his food and mouth too filled to give a verbal answer.

When Ferya had finally spoken to him, he was mid-way through biting into the wrap, pulling back and giving a proper answer before continuing to enjoy the generously gifted lunch.

“-Reconstruction is going well. I’ve been going around and peeping in on every operation that’s been going on in the city and I’ve even seen citizens helping out where they can. Cleaning graffiti, picking up litter, clearing out ransacked shops, honestly, it’s pretty inspiring.”

He smiles a bit, looking at the two of them briefly as he continued on.

“I’m supposed to be giving them a boost in morale and here they are giving it to me. It makes me want to work a little harder to give people a place to call home again.”

A chuckle escapes, Kim setting down the warm schwarm and grabbing a napkin to wipe any forlorn grease from his hands.

He stares at the ball, peering into the red of its topside, then pushes it into a holster’s clip.

“I’d rather not test my luck with this one. If I release and start questioning it, the ghost may run away or worse, attack us. I don’t want to rough up an informant, that’s not my way.”

“Lets go, maybe we’ll overhear a honk as we walk.”

He continues forth, passing a hidden Exeggutor that watches them quietly, sweating bullets as the councilman passes. Kim eyes it briefly with an, ‘ i see you ‘ stare, then continues on quietly. Maybe it was a spy that would report its findings to its boss.

“Don’t act like my presence was even needed in that circus. Even if it was, i would have been lost among the 19 other people you called out.”

His drink was refilled after a short lapse in time, Kim immediately taking another sip as it presented itself; the glass returned to the coaster before him.

“And even though that operation was a success, it was excessive. Of course I saw the men she had with her- I sort through reports all the time- but that doesn’t mean that one or two trained rangers or official league trainers couldn’t handle it. That was a waste of resources.”

He waves his hand to the side, airing away his vents with a puff.

“Meh, it happened already, no use crying over spilled milk. But the sentiment still stands, my trust of you is unstable.”

It was more than just a disagreement of how certain things are handled.

After purchasing the two of them the sugary sweet, more air than anything, Kim would hand her one; the confection resembling a swirlix, and smelling just as sweet as one.

“Oh? What did you have to deal with?”

He takes a bite of the candy, the poor bastard’s ear being gnawed right off.

His smile returns, calm as it ever was.

“Great~”

He sizes her up once more and twist his lip inquisitively, thinking to himself before speaking aloud.

“I think it looks really nice on you. My statement still stands too, you can reserve wearing it around me when we hang out again and pal around somewhere less populated.”

It was not up for debate on whether they would or would not see each other again. Kim was not going to let her get away from him, especially after she rocked these outfits so well.

The emptiness of his stomach was almost audible, the councilman having kept himself busy enough to ward off any pangs that would arise. But to admit that he began salivating the moment he took a step into the mall- where a variety of smells met his nose- would be improper.

Though he would allow, “I’m starving.” to be said, hands rubbing together after squirting a few dabs of hand sanitizer into an open palm.

When the food arrived, he’d quickly swipe a plate, assuming that whatever Fernando had ordered was to be shared among the three of them, a fourth plate uncared for as long as he got his own.

When the box was opened he’d be greeted by the savory smell of the shawarma, forced to take a gulp as he grabbed the partially foil wrapped… wrap in both hands.

The first bite he took of the chicken and vegetable filled delight was absolutely divine, his eyes averting to Freya and silently questioning why she would waste her time with the salad of all things.

Said questioning would be tossed to better listen to the conversation that had presented itself thanks to the indomitable miss morningstar.

His look softened, a placid expression on his face as hers grew hotter by the second.

“Is that a problem?”

He tilted his head to the side only slightly, his brows furrowing upright.

“If it is then I won’t do it anymore, I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable or anything.”

Leading Avery away from the pokemon, Kim would speak back to her.

“I’ll tell you when you’re older.”

Once they were a decent distance away from the scene, Kim would give her the okay to open her eyes.

He would remain silent afterwards, hands moving over his ears, eyes shutting as he listened out for any honks. He was still, unmoving, completely one with the earth, until he heard it.

“Peek-a-boo?”

No, no it was something else. He would track the sound, moving through the brush until he came upon a clearing, two ghost types staring at one another.

The Spiritomb would pop in and out of its artifact at random, appearing in front of the Gourgeist only to say its name in a rhythm similar to peek-a-boo, the dual type opposite of it clapping her hair hands in enjoyment.

“Avery… they’re playful AND they’re ghost. That’s a clear sign that they work for the DNC. Listen… I’ll catch the Spiritomb and you catch the Gourgeist, maybe that’ll lure out their boss.”

He gave a nod to her before he began sneaking up to the Spiritomb, a ball in hand. He waited for the pokemon to show itself, throwing the ball as it got out a Spirit- cut down in the middle of its phrasing.

Was he serious? After everything he’s done up until this point was he really in the dark about why trust issues would arise between the two of them? Especially after the whole spiel he gave him about how he wanted everything to bend to his will?

“Where do I begin?”

Usually he would not further into such boundaries, instead opting to either be more vague or outright avoid the question. But with his second glass now emptied glass paired with a pounding at the back of his head that told him that this needed to be said, it was hard not to speak.

“The first thing I should mention is that it’s hard for me to trust anyone, Fernando. I hardly even trust my best friend, your sister Stormy Silph. To trust someone who’s basically a stranger to myself is not off-brand for me. And with as limited as our interactions are, you are nothing more than a coworker to me at this moment.”

He taps his glass, eyeing the bartender for another fill.

“Then there’s the matter of all the off-kilter things you do and have done up until this point. These surprising, zany, wacky situations that you get yourself into- that you don’t inform me about when they’re something official. And even then, it’s something like dropping a bomb on a single person. Remember that? Remember when you got about half the leagues forces to hone in on some chick and her 2 goons?”

A sigh escapes him, a hand brushing over his hair, reeling it away from his face.

“It’s hard for me to trust you because you haven’t proven yourself trustworthy in my eyes.”

There are plenty more situations he could speak of where he’s done right, and plenty where he’s done wrong, but when the odds are even there is no tipping the scale in one way or another.

He was all smiles, too enveloped in a sense of bliss to take heed to his words, brushing off the worrying aspect completely. At this point it was almost normal to speak of near-death experiences so casually.

“Nothing big, there was a big rocket sort of thing and one of its arms almost landed on me. It was almost as long as it’d say… a bus? Maybe a little longer?”

He’d chuckle pointing out a cotton candy spinner, rushing over to buy a couple for the two of them.

Kim had already been in Slateport, assisting and providing directions where both were needed. When the time neared for them to meet up he would finish his business and make his way over towards the meetup location, leaving his more evolved pokemon to help where he had left off.

His presence is known, normalized to these people. They greet him as a friend, a familiar face, a trusted ally, and keep their distance, smiles and waves sent his way with the occasional photo snapped of him. He would not be given the same treatment as Freya, a rarity in comparison to himself.

Once he had arrived he’d nod to the other two, a smile situated nicely onto his lips.

“How are you two doing?”

He’d look between them then to the location, eyeing out where they would be talking business. Honestly, it wasn’t the worst place Fernando could’ve picked, hat’s off to him for thinking on more than one plain, really.
