mcflurry's lips thin and she loses her bravado like a thrown rock loses altitude. ah. she'd just said something discouraging or bad or -- hm. not good...

however, experience has taught her that trying to salvage this situation with humor or encouragement or whatever just made it worse. so she doesn't.

instead, she just follows the recipe, trying to angle herself so that maddonis sees. it's one of her old roommates' recipes -- janine, in her third year of college -- which she learned a long time ago, in her twenties.

at the very least, it seems like he's paying attention. so she finishes with the garlic and onions and tosses them in the oiled pan to saute, while the spaghetti goes into the boiling water. her hands flow, press, click like a well-oiled machine.

"so you, ah. when you put your mcvegetables in a pan to mcsimmer like that, it's called, mm. sauteing."

mcflurry continues to work silently, pulling out the can opener.

"why, uh. why do you want to... mccook? i'd think..."

the rest goes unsaid as the top pops off.

"geez, what's that guy's mcproblem?"

side-eyeing the guy yelling at his tyranitar, mcflurry just barely pops out of the bush she was hiding from, her camo hat doing absolute wonders for her ability to hide and wait for an opportunity.

unfortunately, the ARCTOZOLT to her side trying and failing to be just as stealthy was, uh. also there. trying to hide its tiny upper body in the bush and failing, mostly because of its gigantic lower body.

however, a shadow starts looming behind the duo. mcflurry slowly turns around, and the arctozolt follows, looking like a deer in headlights.




mcflurry's heart drops as a gigantic venusaur with a bulbasaur on its head glares at her menacingly. she can feel its breath on her nose.

there's a screech and a blizzard and another blizzard and a halfway thrown poke ball. the swarm marches on.

mcflurry grumbles something about 'not as good', eyeing the metal doors as she tries her best to not fall over and fuck her forehead up, like she did in her last escape. something about running fast does that to her.

luckily, elijah gets the door, and she barrels behind him as they run out the back of the building, melding into the shadows.

the alleys are -- gross, as always. she can smell the stench coming off of the local grimer and koffing and trubbish, likely all huddled up and thriving on any throwaday alcohol or condoms or whatnot in the garbage containers. it's a little rancid, but she's gotten used to it by now.

breathing a sigh of relief, mcflurry tries not to let herself relax too easily -- but still, she's pretty happy it's over.

"right. i guess we mcsplit up until the mccoast is clear, then -- go back to hq."

she scratches her head, reaching into her purse and -- pulling out her camo hat, popping it back on.

"i'll see you then. ...unless?"

there's a hopeful lilt of the worst kind. she expects rejection, but she's damned if she doesn't try.
