At first the genger blinked in confusion, having rarely encountered someone immune to his freights. When the boy's guard lycanroc came to his defense, the ghost pokemon slid up, reforming its existence from the ground. It grinned at the stony dog, unphased by its bristling. When he saw their master crawling around searching for their cane, the smile receded, as he finally realized what was happening.

Further, his eyebrow arched as an excadrill took up the tactile eye aid. Was that another one of the other kid's pokemon? The scene that played out proved that it wasn't. It was the easiest pokemon capture the gengar had ever seen take place. Diverting his crimson eyes to the lycanroc, he glared questioningly, wondering if he would have to fight this one at least.

''Gengar?'' He finally spoke. Andy had stepped around the corner and leaned against the bricks cooly, observing to see if his compatriot would end up starting a conflict in his curiosity. It wouldn't have been the first time. A little further up the street, a trashcan was knocked aside as a tynamo slithered out looking rather vexed. Perhaps all the noise had disturbed it.

''Tynamo! Ty!'' It blurbled. Electricity sparked around its crisscross mouth. Andy straightened from his relaxed pose, uncertain how situationally aware the other boy was. ''Taph! Put a lid on that fish!'' He commanded. ''Gen?'' The ghost's eyes shifted to the newly appeared threat and his grin parted to unleash his freakishly long tongue.

''Gaaaar!'' The appendage rocketed past the blind kid and his lycanroc with precision and alacrity. The tip of it slid up to the electric fish and tickled along the scales down its side. The sparking died away and the offending pokemon flopped to the concrete, paralyzed. His own shoes tapping on the sidewalk, the Blackadder boy closed the distance enough to retrieve an empty pokeball of his own.

''Don't grumble, give a whistle ~ ♪'' Given that this was a cell, accommodations were fairly spartan. ''And this'll help things turn out for the best ~♫'' The boy wasn't sure what he had expected.

Always look on the bright side of life ~♪'' The door was a heavy, steel thing, with a single vertical slit window to one side. Within was a single crude bed, plastic still encasing the mattress. ''Always look on the light side of life ~♪'' There was a toilet sink combo against the back wall, but given that anyone could peer through the window at any time, Andy wasn't about to utilize it.

''If life seems jolly rotten ~♫'' The walls were stark white, the door was white, the floor was white. It was dreadfully boring. ''There's something you've forgotten ~♪'' And so, he sang what he thought should have been the Galarian national anthem to himself. ''And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing ~♫'' There was little else to do, at least not that he was willing to do in front of a window.

Meanwhile, at the security station heading the hall in which the Blackadder boy's cell had been built, a guard sat at his post. Monitors covered the desk behind which he lounged. The remainder of the surface being covered in documentation, empty coffee cups, and takeout dishes. The man entertained himself, as he should not have been, by playing Animals GO! on his phone.

''What the-'' At first he didn't notice the flickers on his bank of screens, but they finally caught his inattentive eyes. Sitting up out of his rolling chair, just enough to slap at the top of one of the screens in futility, he was distracted as the door to the station slid aside to reveal a bespectacled man. ''Oh!'' He sat the phone on the desk hastily. ''Can I help you?''

All of the screens picked that particular moment to blink out.

Of course the visitor might have found a little alarming that the key ring slid from his belt and floated through the air close to the wall down the length of the hall. Within his cell, Andy's whistling of the song's chorus stopped as the heavy door creaked creeply. With a quiet clank, it squeaked ajar, keys still sticking out of the lock. Within the shadow betwixt the door and the wall, a pair of red eyes appeared.

''There's a damn good lad,'' he whispered through a grin. But his fortune was short lived. ''Hey! What the hell!?'' Echoed down the hall, along with approaching footsteps. ''Tss!'' The boy shooed his gengar, and the eyes closed to disappear into the darkness to await the appearance of two figures in the door, one of whom made his eyes widen seeing him again so soon.

With the mention that he would see the Blackadder boy around, Andy figured he must live locally. Then he mentioned the shelter. ''What? Homeless shelter?'' Certainly he was joking, right?

As the three filed out of the building, the yanmega heard her master's pleas for the other boy to wait, and perhaps being a little too concerned over a potential situation, skitted across the ground on her wings to confront Doug. Her shimmering compound eyes examining him with scrutiny.

''Yanmega!'' Letting out a sigh, he knew immediately that the darner fly was far too on guard for him after Mauville. ''It's fine, Rav. Nothing fucking serious, girl.'' She hovered back to a less threatening distance, lighting on the ground, although just as before, her wings moved up and down slowly, promising to launch into the air again at a moment's notice should she desire.

After a while, his poor yanmega got tired of carrying him around, and then it was back to the ol' mark one walkers. Finding himself downtown, the boy figured he might try and seek out some grub. Although, he was unsure exactly what his stomach really desired. And so he wandered the streets. He had heard that this section of the city were home to a couple of breeds of wild pokemon.

It seemed like an odd prospect. With Slateport being the League's home base, Andy would have thought they would have had people keeping the streets clean of wild pokemon who could potentially injure people. Then again, in his mind the League had never been quite 'adept' at doing much at all. It's existence was perhaps the only thing that made him miss his homeland.

''Mn?'' The tapping noise coming from around a corner drew his attention from his thoughts. The constant and consistent patter made him curious if perhaps there was a wild pokemon just wandering around the sidewalk. It was worth a look. Leaning out to peer from beside the bricks he saw... a kid with a walking stick.

That wasn't what he was looking for.
[break][break]
Something about his first encounter with the visually impaired must have peaked his own pokemon's interest. The cool sheath of his gengar slid from where he had been tucked into the boy's shadow, and Andy cast an annoyed glance at the ground as he watched the dark puddle sleek across the concrete. While he had never been against poking fun at anyone, he had some limits.

While the other kid's pokemon probably easily spotted him, Epitaph took root in their shadow, stretching across their path. When their cane impacted his contorted ghostly form, it would no longer emit a noise. The gengar's red eyes split and opened in the shadow to glare up at the boy, the pokemon not realizing that such an occular horrifying reveal would be unnoticed.

The boy wasn't one would consider an expert when it came to handling artifacts. So he would let the Galarian prince deal with them since it was his forte, as he understood. Also a natural leader, it seemed, he directed the group to their next future passage. The noises coming from further in creeped Andy out, but he supposed they would deal with it when they got there.

When Remiel called for an ice type, the youth pulled out his phone to scan what his all of his pokeballs contained. He didn't think he had an ice type, and after a brief glance, his screen-illuminated face frowned. The last thing he wanted was to hold up the expedition because he had been lazy about expanding his little army of pokemon.

''Shit. I don't think I got an ice type at all...'' he groaned. But a solution was offered when another member of the team, skyler dross, pitched one at the boy. After it ricocheted off his temple, he staggered back. ''DAH! What the fuck!?'' Perhaps it was a fluke because of the low light environment, but she could have warned him. Although he had never been exactly sporty.

''Bloody hell, lady.'' Rubbing his face, he shined the light from his helmet on the ground to locate the pokeball. Picking it up, he beamed out a sealeo. ''Pffht! Guph! Fraaah!'' It wailed retardedly. The boy stared at it for a moment. It looked like an ice pokemon alright, but was it supposed to sound like that?

''Is this thing alright in the head?'' He arched an achy eyebrow surveying the thing. ''PPPHHHUFRAAAAAPH!'' The youth stood there blinking for a moment before giving an exasperated shrug. ''Whatever. Use... fucking aurora beam or something.'' The pokemon clapped his flippers.

''Phhhruaah! Fruf!'' Waddling into position so as to face the target wall, it did as it was bade.

The city lights were already ablaze, contrasting the darkening sky as the sun disappeared behind the silhouettes of a sea of buildings. It felt good to be free again, but then he always should have been. Back 'home' as it were, the Blackadder boy traversed the streets of Ever Grande City, munching a candy apple.

He thought a night on the town might help him cool down, blow off steam. Perhaps he would see a movie, or find an arcade. Granted, he could always play games at home, but then he would have to listen to his Uncle wail for god knows how long. Wandering by an alleyway, the jangle of metal against metal briefly drew his attention.
[break][break]
His gait slowed as he looked down the alley, but while he may have balls the size of Volkswagons, he wasn't about to go traipsing down a dark alley willy nilly. So, he continued on. Gengar however, was far less scrupulous, and far better equipped to fend off any offensive actions, given that he was a pokemon and all.
[break][break]
A shadowy form slipped from Andy, causing him to pause again. Others may never notice the ghost's presence, but he had known it for so long, it was akin to his shirt flying off. His skin felt colder. He just knew. The darkness slithered around within the shadows of the alley, hugging those cast by a box or a trash can as it approached the individual within.

Finally, Epitaph nested in the shadow of the target, and snaked up the wall within their sight before opening his crimson eyes. The eyes shone out of their own shadow, and with any luck gave his target an awful fright. Meanwhile, Andy was backtracking to the alley, assuming from years with his pokemon, that the noise had drawn his prankster's ire.

So he didn't beat on his pokemon, much like himself. Or well, mostly. He and gengar weren't above trading love taps here and there. Doug's question made him ponder if there actually ever had been a time where he had to crack the proverbial whip himself, but nothing surfaced at the forefront of his mind. Also, it was odd to hear 'proverbial' come from the mouth of a self admitted yokel.

''Taph gives me grief every once in a while,'' he traded glances with the ghost. ''But whenever our asses are on the line, he's pretty compliant.'' The gengar considered doing something to be uncompliant right then, but the other trainer's touch distracted him from any scheming, his crimson eyes locking onto the offending limb with obvious uncertainty.

''Gen...gar...'' Andy also stared, perturbed. Classically, neither of them had been particularly cuddly creatures. Hell, rare was the the time that either experienced much in the way of physical affection. Typically, it was physical punishment, at least in the boy's case. There had been a couple of rough spots in his not-so-distant childhood where gengar had been there to support him, but those too were rare.

''What are you doing, mate?'' While Epitaph was bold enough to not squirm away at first contact, he wasn't one hundred percent cool with what was going on. The Blackadder boy wasn't really sure how to proceed. It was more often that someone wanted to attack the gengar for its antics rather than pet it. ''You should be more careful. You know some ghost types can fuck you up just by touch, right?''
