Gadget belt complete with magnetic Pokeballs? Check. [break][break]

That spray stuff that makes lasers appear? Check. [break][break]

Cyg was mentally playing around with codenames in her head as she went. She liked the ring of ‘Swan’, but maybe it was a bit too on the nose. “What was the name of the main chick in the swan musical?” she asked no one in particular. “Odette? Odile? Hm. But that sounds a lot like Oddish. Not a good look. Sound.” [break][break]

She was walking a Lilycove Rooftop underneath a starry sky with their Dusknoir hovering nearby, singular eye fixed in a half-lidded look of pure contempt. Cyg didn’t think it was possible for a creature with 1/10th of a face to express such unadulterated emotion, but here they were. “Am I annoying you? Sorry,” she said, with zero percent conviction. Zenaïs rolled her eye and floated faster. [break][break]

Down a few buildings, the Lilycove Department Store was a massive beast, spread across numerous blocks and spanning multiple stories. From her vantage point Cyg could see the beachball-striped umbrellas of the rooftop sitting area, lit up by tall, streetlight-style bulbs, and punctuated by the red flashing lights that warned planes of its magnitude. [break][break]

She’d been in Rocket for a couple months now and this was her first B&E. Honestly when she got the job request she’d thought it was a joke. Rocket was a multinational criminal organization, surely they didn’t need grunts like her breaking into department stores to steal gems like friggin’ Carmen Sandiego. [break][break]

But here she was. [break][break]

She paused at the edge of a rooftop adjacent to the department store where she was supposed to meet her partner for this excursion; she pulled the cowl neck up over her mouth and nose, concealing the bottom half of her face, and tapped her foot in the dappled moonlight. [break][break]

Elliott's closet for Rocket missions were much the same. Black pants, usually something comfortable and stretchy enough for him to bend should he need to escape. A black shirt, whether it was a t-shirt, button up, or whatever. Also comfortable. Black shoes, perfect for running.

Black was a color he just preferred, and it just so happened to fit the aesthetic for many Rocket outings. He had enough color with photoshoots.

Today, a black beanie accompanied his outfit, along with a black face mask. Eli was briefed that he and his partner were to rob a jewelry store in Lilycove, and he knew that risked being caught on camera before they were disabled. Might as well fade into the shadows the best he could.

Approaching the woman he was to meet on the rooftop, he stopped with his HOUNDOOM by his side. Her forked tail waved behind her as she looked the other Pokemon and the Rocket woman over.

"Evening," Eli greeted simply.

The sound of dog nails on a hard surface got Cyg’s attention. She turned to face Elliott Jenkins and his Houndoom, looking the terrifying canine up and down with awe. It was wagging its tail and looking both Cyg and Zenaïs up and down with unknown expectations. Somehow, the Dusknoir managed to look even less impressed. She hovered a bit closer to the rooftop’s edge. [break][break]

“Hey,” Cyg said in response to his greeting, hands on her hips, standing a little bit straighter. Her blonde hair was up in a high ponytail and it snapped when she spun. She liked it-- it made her feel cool. She wondered if she should just jump into the codename thing with both feet. This was her first real ‘crime’ with the org, after all. [break][break]

So jumped she did: “I’m Swan. This is Zen.” She jerked her thumb in the Dusknoir’s direction. “The targets are in a small jewelry shop called Sableyes, on the third floor. Zen should be able to get us in, but the entirety of the department store has been outfitted with anti-Ghost-type tech, not to mention security Pokemon on a guard rotation.” Look at her, being all informed. She’d read the dossier. [break][break]

Almost as if on cue, the shadow of an unknown creature passed by a nearby window into the Lilycove Department store. It paused for a moment, then continued on. [break][break]

Zenaïs’ eye narrowed in focus, and she threaded her fingers and stretched them outwards, cracking knuckles she didn’t have. She looked at Cyg, waiting for her cue. [break][break]

“You ready?” Cyg asked Elliott, nervous excitement beginning to build in her blood like electricity. [break][break]

This definitely wasn't Elliott's first rodeo. He's broken into many places like this jewelry store before. It required practice and skill he seemed to have acquired through living in the dumps of Rustboro and pickpocketing.

"Eli," he said simply in return.

He figured that pleasantries shouldn't be drawn out, since the perfect time to strike was approaching. He barely listened to her details, having heard the brief as he examined the window shining down onto the store below. Five stories, so they'd have to descend a couple of levels to reach their target.

"Luckily, ghost-types don't have to be used to steal a gem," he said with a glance to her as he pulled out some tools from his side.

With the window finally removed, Eli stepped to the edge.

"If you are. Can you take out the cameras?"

He wondered about her ability.

Eli didn’t seem like the type to want to make friends so Cyg wisely shut her mouth and worked on steeling her nerves. She felt a little wrankled when he made the comment about Ghost-types not being needed to steal gems and she really had to tamp down on her temper to avoid being a sassy bitch about it. She settled for angrily thinking no, but they definitely make life easier.

It was her turn to bust out her tools when Eli asked if she could handle the cameras. Cyg nodded, thinking that was about the only thing she could handle. Moving with practiced speed, Zen gently took hold of her waist and leaned her through the window. Using a modified circuit feedback loop of her own design, Cyg attached it to the camera wires; anyone watching the security footage would see a split second of wavy feedback and then a perfectly timed loop of the same three seconds of playback, over and over again, on all the cameras.

It wasn’t foolproof, of course. It was banking on the camera operator not paying super close attention; though as long as there was no obvious interference from outside (like lights) it would definitely paint a picture that nothing was happening within the mall. It gave them a solid window of time to get in and get out.

She flashed Eli a thumbs up as Zen lifted her off the rooftop and carried her to the ground, before fading from view to do recon and keep an eye on the guard’s movements.

Elliott waited for her confirmation, looking down at the drop below. He pulled forth his LUNATONE, LEVITATING at his side.

"Help us down, alright?"

He put one foot on the bottom point of the rock-like Pokemon while resting his elbow on the top. It hovered down, lowering him until he could step off. He sent it back up should Cygne need its help.

Though, she did have Pokmeon of her own if she chose to use them.

Once he was settled on the floor, he motioned for his HOUNDOOM to join him, also pulling forth his NINETALES and ARCANINE. The dog-like crew awaited orders.

"See if you can find any traps. If you can, mark it and report back," Elliott ordered, watching as they took off in various directions.

"Will you send your ghosts too?"

Cyg watched Elliot ride his Lunatone down like some weird space elevator out of The Fifth Element and she could literally tell her face was physically lighting up with excitement.

“That was SUPER COOL!” she whispered, enthusiasm in her voice genuine, because, it fucking was.

Elliot released his Pokemon to send them off to look for traps. Cyg wondered how sneaky a team full of dogs really could be-- but then again, she didn’t have room to talk. Most everyone on her team was a chaos-fueled clunker.

She was caught off guard when Elliot turned to her and asked if she would send her Pokemon. “Um. Yeah. Some of them.” She called forth Eulalia and Twilight. “Okay, Zen is keeping an eye on the guards and we have a signal for her to cause a distraction if we get in hot water.” Her mind spun for a second because she didn’t know the first thing about breaking in. “Eula, you hang nearby. You’re gonna be our lockbreaker… door-opener. Whatever.” Turning to her Lucario, she explained: “Twi, use your aura senses to find the quickest route for us. It’ll be where the most people have walked during the day.”

The Lucario gave a silent nod; the Zoroark turned faintly lavender and blurred from view.

Twi put a palm over his chest, reading the aura from the day’s worth of shoppers and goers-on. His aura… ear… things lifted; a moment later, he pointed in a direction, and took off at a crouch.

Cyg fell into step behind him, stooped low so as to stay below the line of sight and in the shadow of kiosks, merchandise stands, and signs.

There was no other team of Pokemon Elliott would trust with sniffing down traps and being stealthy than his own dogs. They had been trained since he acquired them for stealth and retrieval. Eli's second job was thieving, after all.

This was all in a night's work for him.

He observed Cygne as she prepared her own team, seeming to stutter over what was the correct term for "lockpicking" a door. He snorted in amusement, though it was quiet and muffled behind his mask.

Not shortly after they were sent out, his team arrived back. Enya, in particular, seemed enthused.

"Where was it?"

The HOUNDOOM dropped a destroyed part in her mouth onto the ground, having deactivated a trap. Sliding a pair of gloves onto his hands, Eli looked over it before throwing it down again.

"Good work. Let's move."

Cygne’s thighs started to burn from being crouched but by god she was not about to crawl on her hands and knees and embarrass herself in front of Elliott. She followed behind Twilight, who, at times, paused at the end of rows of shelving or behind displays, sensing the presence of a guard; when they would move on, he would move on.

They passed the gutted remains of what Cyg assumed to be the trap that Eli’s Houndoom had disposed of moments before; eventually, they came to a complete stop outside of a square room. Two wide open archways opened to the mall hallway, one on each side; they were barred over with multiple layers of dropdown security fencing. Within were multiple glass displays bordered by countertops-- and a larger, vertical stand, in the center of it all.

I bet that’s where our jewels are, Cyg thought.

Looking both ways before she crossed the street-- er, stepped into the hall, Cyg pulled out a small canister of compressed air. Depressing the button, it quietly released a small cloud of gas that floated between the security gates and into the jewlery store proper. As she expected, red lines of hidden lasers appeared after the condensate cloud passed over them, and then faded just as quickly.

“Darn,” she hissed, stepping back into cover. She turned and looked at Eli. “Any ideas?”

The trek to the inner room was just as Elliott thought. They had to take their time, avoiding any guards, but they had to be quick as well. By the time they entered the room, he was just relieved that the process seemed to be near halfway over.

His eyes watched closely as Cygne exposed the laser trap, lighting the way to the case in the center. Expected, he thought, as he dug at his side.

"Not my first time doing this," Eli reminded her.

Pulling a silenced weapon from his belt, he traced each laser to the outlet they were located at. He shot the area, disabling the system. Of course, it gave them a limited amount of time to get the jewels and get out of there. But they had time.

"Okay. We have a set time now. Get in, get out. Move."

“Oh. Nice.” What she was really thinking is oh, nice, we have all these tools and gadgets and you just use a gun. Real fancy, Mister Thief Man. But she figured Eli didn’t need to know the back half of that statement; plus, they had a bit of a time crunch.

Eulalia, at least, knew what she was about. She appeared on the other side of the security doors in a faint puff of lavender smoke; gently, she prised open the doors, moving slowly so as not to rattle them; when she’d gotten them a few feet off the ground, Cyg and Twilight army crawled in.

Once they were all inside, Eulalia placed the security gate back down; Zenais appeared, then, producing the duffel in which to store the jewels. Cyg hurried to the stand and indiscriminately began scooping the shiny things in. Eulalia, meanwhile, slipped her hand through a glass display case and popped the lock, allowing her access to additional trinkets.

“Hey. Zsst.” Cyg hissed. “What are you doing? This isn’t a free-for-all.”

Eulalia shrugged.

“Jeez, okay, whatever.” Zenais tugged a string on the duffel bag and faded from view. “We got what we came for. Let’s boogie.”

The grab and go was swift. Eli grabbed when he needed, practically filling the entire bag with the whole display case that they were targeting along with ana fell's help. Once it was done, it was time to bail.

"Only a few more minutes of cover left. Let's go."

He used his Poke balls to pick his Pokemon back up, ensuring they were all contained before reaching the place they had opened to descend into.

Pulling his LUNATONE out again, his climbed on as it LEVITATED up to the roof again, allowing him to step off before he put, too, back into a Poke ball.

Once they were safely out of the way, Eli did a quick sweep of what items they had gathered. Seemed good enough. He grunted to himself, waiting for his partner to approach the rooftop again.

Following Eli’s lead, Cyg collected her motley crew of critters and headed back to their entry point. Once there, Zen grabbed her gently round the waist again, and up they went, back into the humid, Lilycove night.

Only when they had safely shuffled away from the mall without any alarms going off did Cyg throw up her hands in a silent, double fistpump of celebration. “Hell yeah!” she whisper-screamed into the night. “We are so good at this. You are so good at this. Hell. Yes.”

Zenaïs rolled her eye, but held out the bag containing the targeted jewels, and then some. Cyg peeked in, her face a manic mask of glee. “Good shit, my guy. We got everything we came for and then some. Hee-hee, I might have some keepsies.” She’d never desired gems-- never understood the need. She’d rather spend her money on a good pair of shoes.

But this… was this what wealth felt like?

Zen handed over the goods and zipped back into her Pokeball, seeming relieved to be away from her hyped-up trainer. Cyg grinned at Eli, unable to keep the smile off her face.

“That was-- that was awesome. Such a thrill.” She jerked a thumb back at the mall. “The feedback loop will fizzle out eventually. It only has limited battery life. By the time they notice it's there it’ll be, like, months from now when they’re doing routine maintenance, so no worries.” She hadn’t left any signatures, fingerprints, or identifying marks on the tech, using entirely secondhand pieces bought with cash cobbled together from pawnshops.

“It was really great working with you,” Cyg said, still grinning. The operation had gone off without a hitch and she had managed to not make a complete fool of herself. “Let’s do it again, sometime?”
