A finger taps on the censer that rests next to him while sitting on a smooth rock, pink mist of soothing aroma being steadily released by the small metal container. Incense. By this point, Mars had grown more than used to the scent of it. All thanks all the times he has used them up here in Mt Pyre.

The Unown floating before him, however, seems as indifferent to the aromatic mist as can be, despite being a psychic type and supposedly being drawn to it because of it.

Oh well, Unown have always been pretty different from most pokémon.

As expected, it also gives no response.

Sometimes Sigilyph make Mars think of the Unown, and he wonders if the symbols would be upset by it. There’s just something reminiscent of them in the Avianoid Pokémon. Is it their singular eye? Is it their cryptic nature? Maybe it’s both. Maybe it’s just a feeling.

Mars wonders about it when he sees the wild Sigilyph approach, but as is the case with most wild pokémon, once it notices that they mean it no harm and that there’s nothing of actual interest in the incense’s mist, it leaves all on its own.

And so, they keep on waiting.

It floats too close, almost as if aware Mars knows its species well, and because of its presence, memories come to mind of the Munna he has lost in gruesome ways. Time and again. Should he feel guilty? Should he feel pain? Maybe, but even if Mars were to search for those feelings within him, he probably wouldn’t find them…

They just hadn’t mattered enough.

They had been good pokémon and had done their duty, but in the end, most pokémon are tools and nothing else.

Is that what he thinks of the Unown too?

Mars decides he’d rather not ask himself that question, so he just pets the Munna for a short second before it goes away.

Just when he’s about to leave, when the incense’s mist has almost completely faded away, the Unown’s attention is drawn towards one of the nearby trees.

Mars watches the symbol for a second before deciding to follow after it, and when he does, it’s there that he sees a Drowzee napping against the tree’s trunk.

Had the scent of the incense soothed it to sleep? Apparently.

Naturally, Mars decides to let it be.
