Visions stain your mind of a world that isn't yours, and in that vision is an impossibly large body that turns its gaze upon you. That glimpse of infinity is fleeting, so is understanding, enlightenment that you find flickering here, but... even if it is a mere fraction of a fraction, you find yourself inexorably drawn toward it, like a moth to flame. [attr="class","bisc"]By the time he and Nilla made it to base, the sack they carried was super light. Neither of them were built for heavy lifting. And, with all that paranoia flowing through his veins, he didn’t even think of using a Pokemon.

Wanting to do more, he signed up for another party. After signing liability forms in triplicate, he met his partner. It was a pretty girl. Great. Somehow—probably because he was busy trying not to get eaten—his awkward turtle self remained in its shell. This time, his Incineroar trailed along a few feet behind him. Her belt lent warm light to the air around them—helping ward off curious fish Pokemon.

After a winding path, he found himself standing before a familiar lump of flesh. It was in a different place, but it looked the same. He let the empty satchel drop to the floor. He built himself up with a few deep breaths. Time to be a knight Scotti. Partially to impress her and partially because his poppa would kill him for letting a girl get hurt. “Look, I’m game to grab the—” His eyes widened as the ivory-haired girl laid her hands on the organ “--ooooor not.” Dusting sweaty hands off on his jeans, honey eyes shifted toward a nearby tunnel. He could hear the shuffling approach of something.

Though her eyes don't stray from the light she can feel the boy that accompanies her. Though she cannot make out his words from the pulsing of the organ in front of her, she can feel his emotions. [break][break]

The fear that courses from him becomes hers as well as the light fluctuates between them. It is infectious, the fear felt between two explorers who rely on one another. If trust crumbles, gives way to trepidation, to something so base and primal as fear in the face of the one you're supposed to count on, then it becomes inescapable.[break][break]

You steady yourself with a shaky breath of your own, trying to keep your cool.[break][break]

"Hey, c'mon! Keep your wits about you! It's nothing but a big pokemon, just a routine procedure. There's nothing here to be scared of!"[break][break]

You say that, but it's already creeping through you. Though you feel neither heat nor cold courtesy Eternatus's own white angel, injecting its poisons into your body, you can feel it like ice running through your veins. A feeling like being watched, a paranoid delusion, like you're surrounded by a thousand sightless eyes.[break][break]

They're closing in as you stand there.[break][break]

"He's scared, Eternatus."[break][break]

You let out a laugh, assuring the giant pokemon that you don't feel the same. [break][break]

Of your countless journeys through this realm, you've become used to this feeling. The feeling of being seen by something. For the lack of being seen in your everyday life, is that not preferable? Someone who wants to be seen, to be acknowledged, finally being granted that single wish...[break][break]

"All things die. All things cease existing. Isn't that right? So, there's nothing to be afraid of... but eternity itself."[break][break]

You grin. It's more like a cornered animal baring her fangs. Resistance in the name of something insurmountable, but something fully expected at this point. [break][break]

The pokemon beside you quivers nervously as you grasp at materials floating in orbit around the gigantic, pulsing organ. She knows this sea better than anything, born a part of it. [break][break]

[attr="class","bisc"]So, this girl was cracked. He would have blamed it on the pulsing if it wasn’t for the fact that she’d started being a weirdo before she touched the thing. Some part of him wondered if he should be more scared of her or the thing whose stomach they were in. But these thoughts were interrupted by Tsubaki’s encouragement. Chill, Scotti. It’s just the bony bastard getting to you.

“Yeah. Totally standard.” He tries his best to sound flippant. He fails. “I make deliveries here three or four times a week.” As he adjusts his suddenly tight collar, the baker forces a deep breath. What happened to all that courage he’d built up over twenty years? Sure, he lost the muscles, but his spine too? It sucked. And, of course, the girl saying weird stuff isn’t helping.

"Of course, I'm scared." He shook his head. "You would be too if you'd seen what this thing can do." A beloved face, now a blur, burnt away by acid. Your own fallen Pokemon turned against you by venomous tendrils.

“You uh—you just keep doing that.” Whatever it was. Why let this freakshow of a Pokemon know they were here? Was it actually speaking back? “I’m just going to—yanno—mine.” With a grunt, he lifts his noddle arms above his head. He brings it down upon an amethyst deposit. The materials scatter as he scoops something into his bag. A few smaller shards follow. Then, he repeats the process.

Something about the cycle is comforting. This time, his Tyranitar is there to lend a hand. Its giant feet churn the thing’s crystalline stomach to glitter with each stomp. Into the bag, it goes—another weapon in this eternal war.

She muses on it. She has seen the worst of it, all that devastation, all the heartbreak and terror. The pain and loss of those who clamber through the deep to fight wars. Those who struggle against the tide of a black sea to save a world that is already doomed. [break][break]

She has gazed into the abyss enough times to know full well what she is looking at, but does not avert her eyes.[break][break]

She couldn't possibly look away. [break][break]

"Lots to be afraid of in this life, Scotti. But who'd I be if I didn't meet what I'm afraid of head-on? I'm no coward. And neither are you. Confront your fears, master 'em, and they can't control you, right?"[break][break]

As she speaks, sounds reverberate around the chamber like angelic voices. They are wordless, lacking a mouth to sing for them. Disembodied, they are more pure and true than anything human, more ancient than one dare consider. Light resonates with their bodies as they emerge like white angels, bearing down on the two of them, while Tsubaki turns to watch.[break][break]

And as they show themselves, for the first time, putrid, festering claws made of venom shoot forward, piercing them all at once. Smiting his own angels, striking them down for daring to transgress, and glance upon this holy light, memories of Galar pierce the Nihilego horde all at once.[break][break]

Eternatus's divine punishment, made manifest.[break][break]

"... Look into the abyss, and the abyss also looks into you..."[break][break]

Tsubaki clutches a pokeball on her belt while her Nihilego dances in her shadow. It is afraid of the light, the punishment faced by its peers for looking upon it with eyes that cannot see. Even so, she's faced this before, and will again.[break][break]

"You remember Galar, don't you, Scotti?"[break][break]

[attr="class","bisc"]“I mean—yeah. It doesn’t help that we know this monster is just waiting to do it again either.” To drown him and everyone he loves in poison. Why? He isn’t sure the monster has a reason. Which, somehow, makes it worse. At least a motive made something understandable. It took the mystery out of it. But until then, it was just some mindless, ceaseless Eldritch thing.

The brunette stares at her for a moment. Was it Galar that’d cracked her skull like an egg? It’d make sense. That place was so real and yet so wrong. Every week brought with it new death and despair. And, no matter how many distractions he built or planned, the darkness festered under it like a wound. Her pep talk was met with a sigh.

Was it worse that he understood what she was saying or that he agreed? Apparently, he’d never evolved past peer pressure and schoolyard taunts. Great. Biscotti forces himself to nod. He wipes sweaty palms against his starchy jeans. “Right.” They were just as moist when they came up. “That’s kinda why I came down here.” The guy wasn’t one for hate. In fact, he couldn’t remember ever hating somebody. But, Eternatus? He despised it.

Which was kind of its own form of control, huh?

Around him, those faceless creatures transformed into the peasants he fought with. Children with their faces eaten down to the brain by Eternatus’s venom. A flower clutched in a bloody hand. The nice butcher whose guts were tossed around his neck like a scarf. And then, of course, Stella. Her hand reached for him as he tried to reach her and failed.

Again. Honeysuckle hair stained red.
Again. A small crumpled in shock.
Again. The loss of a baby he never met.

“Of course I do.” With a snarl, he and Jangle unleashed fire upon these memories. A fire so hot it flickered blue.

Still, through these translucent barriers, you catch a glimpse of a nearby planet. One that looks suspiciously like the one you all live in—except that a large portion of it seems covered in land.[break][break]

You must escape with your gathered material. Your ally or allies may be incapacitated by the paranoia settling in their psyches, or perhaps, the eldritch mutations beginning to metamorphose their body or bodies.[break][break]

Depending on how much your characters have mined, you may need to lessen your extracted load to ensure successful escape from this wretched place. After all, the horrors that reside here may make chase.

You can recall it vividly, looking at the scene unfolding around you now. A pooling, formless mass. Blackened as pitch, vile beyond belief. Something anathema to life, impossible to stop. No matter how you fought back, no matter how you dammed it, parted it, burnt it - there was always more. [break][break]

That world was impossible to save, that He was there. That a God was there, and had sunken that continent into a sea of its own making, a sea not in any physical sense but a spiritual one. He was there, watching now, as those who escaped the fate of that great work still drew breath right in front of Him. [break][break]

Was this a test? Was this a threat? Or, sleeping, was this God entirely unaware of the sheer destruction it spreads merely by its existence?[break][break]

"Then you saw His premonition... you know we can't survive the flood."[break][break]

You reach your hand out and your guardian angel wraps her tendrils around your wrist to pull you along with the currents just in time. Blackened mud pours through the chamber quickly, covering the ground. One touch is death. You''l take the neurotoxins any day. At least they can be flushed out over the course of a few weeks, later, when you're safe. [break][break]

But there's no fighting here. There's no fighting a God. [break][break]

"Leave it! We've got what we came for!"[break][break]

You reach out your hand to pull him along with you. You've just got to trust that Nihilego knows where she's headed. After all, this is her home, the place she belongs to. [break][break]
