Too still.[break][break]

Tempest clicked his tongue, pulling in the Glaceon closer to his side.[break][break]

Ever since the Battle of Dewford had concluded, too few trips had been taken out here. For leisure, for scouting... it was always eerie to be in a place you helped ravage. To see the people who lived there trying to pick up the pieces, even after so much time had passed. It was like a place was hollowed out, a thin fake skin placed over-top to appear normal.[break][break]

Maybe Tempest was just waxing too much poetic about it.[break][break]

Regardless, he was here for information that lead to skulking around in Granite Cave's tunnels.

All the time slipping between the cracks in this world, she's become nearly used to the phenomenon. Her dreams don't take her far anymore, which means the path is something she can walk while thinking of other things. Whoever or whatever she has to thank for that, she's not sure. [break][break]

There'll be a time she can't find her way back so easily, she knows. But that time has yet to come.[break][break]

Suddenly, she stops, listening intently for something in the dark between droplets of water hitting the surface of flooded antechambers down below. The absolute quiet of the cave, once bursting to the brim with wildlife, makes her frown. Reaching her hand outward as a signal, the pokemon beside her quivers and stops to sense whatever her mistress listens for, with eyes that don't see.[break][break]

A soft tug, slimy appendage running along her wrist, and she looks in the direction her Nihilego pulls her. She doesn't call her a guardian angel for nothing.[break][break]

"Wild pokemon run when they hear strangers these days."[break][break]

She lets that sentiment hang in the air. A harsh accusation, maybe. But it's true. [break][break]

Whoever it is, they don't belong here. [break][break]

There's not much else to say about it. A war was fought in this very chamber, for the fate of the sea that lies underneath. The wildlife, what's left, has barely started to recover. Tourists, explorers, whoever else, they just make it harder for the pokemon to rebuild when any sign of outsiders is an implicit threat.[break][break]

A metal device hangs in Temp's hands. It clicks softly, but still loud enough to be caught between the dripping of the cavern. He glances at it from time to time, making some type of notes on his phone.[break][break]

The chamber was large and familiar. He'd killed people here.[break][break]

A pause in the middle. He looks around, memories of battle pulling close in his mind. Tempest frowns. While not particularly bothered by what he had done, it wasn't looked upon with warmth.[break][break]

It still feels wrong here.[break][break]

Icecube snarls and starts to growl, hackles raising. The Shadow Glaceon as unnerved by the cavern as his trainer secretly was.

Whoever it is is engrossed in whatever they're doing, so much they don't hear her.[break][break]

It pisses her off.[break][break]

"Hey! I don't like repeating myself, y'know!"[break][break]

She calls out loud enough that her voice echoes against the wall of the cave this time. [break][break]

"What're you doing here? You don't belong here."[break][break]

They're disturbing the nests wild pokemon have finally moved back into. Even worse, disturbing the site of a battle, a place where bodies were laid to rest. This is sacred ground. Just being here is a show is disrespect.[break][break]

Oh, he hears that alright.[break][break]

Tempest tenses, head jerking around as he looks about the area. The echo of the voice, a woman's?, is disorienting. It reminds him how much he hates being underground like this.[break][break]

But... later, later. He had things to do. The oncoming panic of speluncaphobia could be pushed aside for now. Until Tempest was somewhere safe to worry about it.[break][break]

Icecube goes on the offensive instantly, black ice summoned from it's Shadow body that spins around at the ready- hoping to hone in on whoever was speaking with the Ice Shard when noticed.[break][break]

"Doesn't matter! Come out or I'll take this whole fucking place down!"

Biouminescence surges in response to the aggressive pokemon's reaction, and the floor is torn away and shattered into a field of debris. Before the ice can reach its target, it's pulverized into harmless snow and a harmless breeze by Stealth Rock.[break][break]

Even so,she doesn't retaliate with hostility, watching and quivering with anticipation through eyes that do not see; instead, she pays special attention to the pokemon in front of her, something she sees as one of her own kind...[break][break]

"I'm not trying to hide! I'm just asking you a question!"[break][break]

There's a pit in her stomach as Tsubaki responds in kind with her own shouts. This reminds her of the previous conflict held in this very cavern. The overwhelming hostility and suspicious activity makes her question it, but she tosses the possibility away until she's absolutely sure, opting for as diplomatic as she can get.[break][break]

"And if you cave in the ceiling, pokemon'll lose their homes, dumbass!!"[break][break]

I'll take this whole cavern down. Repeats in his mind. The idea of rocks crushing him, filling his lungs as he suffocates, has his whole body shudder.[break][break]

A grit of the teeth and a shake pulls him out of that fear, if only slightly.[break][break]

Rocks surge upwards and take in the ice. Tempest hisses out a curse.[break][break]

"If you don't know who I am, then turn on the damn news. I'm not here to hold your hand."[break][break]

Tempest had been a Gym Leader for years here in Hoenn. It was only his very public announcement of his relationship and marriage to Cillian Quinn, probably the most famous Rocket in Hoenn, that saw his reputation turning in the public eye. Tempest didn't have the power of a god and hadn't done near as many crimes- but he was still recognizable. If Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki saw that in him or not wasn't his problem.[break][break]

Either way, it was pretty clear he was here up to no good.[break][break]

Tempest glanced down at the Shadow Glaceon and gave a click and a short whistle. It rattled in the cavern strangely.[break][break]

Icecube snarled, growl rising, a Shadow Ball collecting at the front of his maw with sparks of black energy. It shot for the pokemon again, the ghost typing hopefully meaning the move would pass through the rocks littering the ground.

[attr="class","star2tsu"]The raw malice in his voice stirs something deep down. A forgotten memory, the kinda thing she's long buried. Kanto isn't that far in her past, but it feels like another lifetime. Something she thought she was able to forget. [break][break]

She lets that settle with a ragged breath. There's no time to dredge up the past. [break][break]

Even so, she can't help but be reminded of the soldiers she's fought alongside overseas, the kind of disregard for anyone but one's own well-being. Only someone who's embroiled in war holds this lack of care for others...[break][break]

"Tch! What, you someone I should know about?"[break][break]

She says it, but doesn't want to feed her suspicions further. Prying into this won't do anyone any good. She's here for the pokemon, and nothing else. She won't repeat the mistakes committed in this very cavern.[break][break]

The parasite floating beside her shimmers as if made of glass, hardening in response to the shift in pressure. There are no eyes to be seen on her body, and yet she can feel it with a shudder. A chill that fills her with dread. [break][break]

She glows, and in response her body explodes with light, focusing a ray of self-made bioluminescence at the center of the orb of bristling killing intent. The Power Gem is able to dispel the worst of the attack, enough to protect her Master standing behind her from the assault as the cavern is bathed in brilliant luster.[break][break]

—For a shadow cannot stand up to the light.[break][break]

Light shines in the room, a brilliant light show of terrastalization.[break][break]

Icecube's hackles raise as he does his best to dart out of the range of the leftover bits of rock.[break][break]

But while light might cast away shadows, it also illuminates the worst of truths.[break][break]

Now, in the light, Tempest gets a good, long look at Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki.[break][break]

He's not as familiar with the defector roster as Cillian Quinn. That was his husband's domain to rule over. But a few things stuck out. Reports Tempest would slide his eyes away from, not meant for his eyes, works he tried to put out his mind.[break][break]

Tsubaki would see the wicked grin crack over his face.[break][break]

This cavern? His goal? May as well piss on that. With this girl in the way it was too risky.[break][break]

But maybe he had found something better.[break][break]

"No. But I know about you now."[break][break]

He meets her eyes with a knowing look, smug.[break][break]

"Icecube."[break][break]

The Glaceon's ears flicker. A mass of snow and frost start to explode from his maw, dark and sludgy and twisted. The Shadow Chill rises in the air, sickly and terrible as it warps the air between them.[break][break]

Tempest breathes in black frost and laughs.

She'd been told that by Navy when she first started living with him. It was the subject of a serious debate. Nobody would recognize her anyway, it was just for added safety and sound of mind. But even then, she always wondered... what if someone recognized her? What would they do with that?[break][break]

"... About me?" She replies in an obstinate tone, not willing to cede any ground. "You don't know anything about me!"[break][break]

The chill reaches her long before the Glaceon exhales black wind. She's already shivering before it fills the cavern. [break][break]

It's not the attack that chills her to her bones, it's the sound of his laugh.[break][break]

Tsubaki stares through her guardian angel, a waifish form made of glass reflecting his eyes through it. She suddenly understands. It's like she knows him. This deranged laugh, and this menacing expression... she's seen it all before.[break][break]

It's like looking through a mirror.[break][break]

"Manju!"[break][break]

The crackling of ice on the ground grows closer, and her Nihilego's clear body shifts quickly through the spectrum of visible light, turning to a black, star-filled expanse suddenly. She stands still as ice begins to cover her body, shielding Tsubaki from the brunt of the blow, but not moving.[break][break]

She simply takes in energy, awaiting the call of the void beneath their feet...[break][break]

"You're right. I don't." Tempest is smiling when he says it. All sharp teeth when he looks at Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki through her crystalline pokemon. There is something sick in his mirth.[break][break]

"My husband... he's in charge of tracking down defectors. Interesting, right?"[break][break]

A chuckle leaves him.[break][break]

He glances around, clicking his tongue. So, he wasn't able to get the information he was after...[break][break]

But he did find something much more interesting.[break][break]

His hands brush against his hip, a pokeball being tossed out. The Dhelmise hangs in the air, still, as Tempest steps up to stand on it's anchor.[break][break]

A whistle and the Glaceon darts backwards, suddenly. Energy grows in the air, a dark void starting to shift and warp the air.

"De-defectors!?"[break][break]

Her pulse quickens. Her hands begin to sweat. The back of her neck gets hot, even in the chill of the cavern.[break][break]

A Rocket?[break][break]

Her mind races, trying to cover everything that's happened. Everything she's said, and everything she's done. Surely, surely it wasn't enough to...[break][break]

Just how much does he know?[break][break]

"I-I have NO IDEA what you're talking about!! MANJU!!"[break][break]

The energy of the void congeals into a Meteor Beam as she shouts at the top of her lungs, and all at once the light of the rift at the bottom of the cave erupts from her Nihilego's body, shattering all the ice encased around it. [break][break]

It tears a hole through space itself, ripping apart everything. [break][break]

The cavern's ceiling quivers, and the walls threaten to come down. It is as if a vortex to another world has opened in this very cavern, unleashing the might of the other world that this pokemon once called home. [break][break]

No quarter. Take no prisoners. Find him. Stop him. [break][break]

She repeats it in her mind over and over, a desperate plea as she searches the aftermath of the attack, coughing into her sleeve as she searches the field of debris for any signs of him.[break][break]

Her Nihilego's toxins will make quick work of any memory he thinks he has of this meeting.[break][break]

It'll never have happened.[break][break]

At all costs, it mustn't.[break][break]
