You force-feed the BLUE POTION down Shalin's throat. It takes quite a bit of time, but she comes to. You fill her in on what happened after she guided you through the invisible ice maze. She looks confused, but is grateful for your bravery and for you having her back when she needed it most.[break][break]

You gaze toward the burning courtyard again. You can now see giant blocks of NEVER MELT ICE towering over its statues. They are so cold and so dense that not even bubbling magma will melt them. While the courtyard appears to still be hot, its air no longer wavers like a mirage, nor are there embers flying through it. While it looks like it will be uncomfortably hot still, it is a big difference from the unbeatable temperature it was previously. [break][break]

Alright, now they were back in business! With Shalin properly mended, the rest of the dungeon didn't stand a chance against the both of them! [break][break]

Though, speaking of, Eddie finally noticed the billowing steam from the burning courtyard and the giant blocks of Never Melt Ice looming above. It was kinda weird to him that the ice wasn't melting, but on the other hand, wasn't that exactly where the name came from? Either way, it looked like the courtyard was now navigable, but Eddie didn't trust that things were exactly as they appeared. With that, he chose the option to ASK SHALIN TO GAZE TOWARD THE COURTYARD WITH THE FORESIGHT LENS. It'd be a real pain if all his work was undone by some unseen threat lurking in the humid pathways beyond.

It seems that by being thorough on the ice catwalks high above had paid great dividends: not only will crossing be trivial, but so will retrieving the items marked on your map.[break][break]

Before she becomes too weary from utilizing so much Infinity Energy, Shalin also reports that on the far side of the courtyard is a double door covered with a large, golden lock. You suspect that the BOSS KEY may open this lift.[break][break]

No enemies, loot on the way, and a giant golden padlock with his name on it; they really were hurtling towards the climatic ending, weren't they? Eddie double and triple checked his choices. Rather than risk the expenditure of any further Infinity Energy, it would probably just be smarter to finally get a move on and end this. With that, Eddie chose the option to HEAD DOWNSTAIRS INTO THE COURTYARD. What kind of boss could be waiting for them up ahead?

You return to the courtyard and see a chaotic mess of solid rock covering it, as though it were a war zone. It seems that the ice blocks from above violently mixed with the lava, causing a chain of giant explosions. You see many fire Pokémon whose bodies are somehow encased in NEVER MELT ICE. The explosions have also launched two treasure chests toward the back of the courtyard. Out in the open and with little to stop you, you plunder their contents.[break][break]

You obtained a RED POTION! Drink it to moderately restore health. Gone after one use.[break][break]

You obtained a GOLDEN GEMSTONE! This gleaming, hexagonal rare jewel shines an illustrious and luxurious yellow. It can be sold at an extraordinary price to shops.[break][break]

You quickly cross the ruined courtyard to a vault-style door locked with a large, ornate, golden lock that looks like your BOSS KEY will open. Beyond, you can hear the deep cries of what you believe are two Ninetales of great size.[break][break]

Ooo, shiny! Eddie was stoked to snag some of the extra loot along the way, but the real thing he found himself excited for was the upcoming boss fight. It would probably be good to do some prep work before unlocking the door to the boss arena, though. The cackling cries of the Ninetales on the other side sounded deeper and louder than any Eddie had ever heard before; whatever was waiting for him, he was sure it would pack a punch. [break][break]

Which probably meant that Eddie should have been on the defensive, but where was the fun in that? Instead, Eddie chose to HAVE YOUR POKEMON SHARPEN THEIR CLAWS, BOLSTERING OFFENSE. Hitting fast and hard was the sure path to victory!

Both of you start sliding on a pillar of NEVER MELT ICE as the doors behind you and to your right lock you in, the large chamber featuring nine such pillars in the pattern of a regular diamond, with its ninth at the center. Between them are channels of bubbling magma the explorers would have to jump over to traverse them. Though the elements had violently mixed in the courtyard, they were inexplicably able to coexist here.[break][break]

From the mist on the opposite side sound two familiar Ninetales cries. It is obvious from the silhouettes' shapes that one is Kantonian and one Alolan. There is something off about them, which beomes apparent when both leap to the center ice platform. There are people riding these giant Ninetales, each wearing a crown and wielding a scepter. They pull on the reins of their Pokémon, a burst of MYSTICAL FIRE and a gale of FROST BREATH headed your way.[break][break]

Okay, now this was cool. A double boss fight with a fun little thematic twist to it was going to be the perfect cherry on top to this dungeon-crawling experience. As they slid across the floor, Eddie considered his options. Their attacks were well choreographed, so surely there was some way he could exploit that, right? Sure, just wailing on one of them until they were knocked out was an option, too, but he had played enough video games to know when something more gimmicky was at play. [break][break]

With that in mind, Eddie opted to TRY TO DRAW THEIR ATTACKS INTO EACH OTHER. Maybe he could get these foxes to do some of the work for him. [break][break]

Aiming to draw the two Ninetales and their royal riders into one another, you and Shalin leap to the central ice pillar. Seeing an opportunity for a pincer attack, the foxes leap at you from opposite sides before spewing FLAMETHROWER and FROST BREATH attacks toward you.[break][break]

You wait as long as possible before diving out of the way, sliding across the ice pillar. Pushing your BLUE VEST into the ice, as it is more abrasive than anything else you can quickly access. you manage to stop well before you would have fallen into the blazing drink. Shalin bumps into you, as well, but you remain in place, both of you getting to your feet easily.[break][break]

The two foxes cry loudly; it seems they are vulnerable to each others' attacks. The people aboard them, though, do not react as harshly as one would expect. As Shalin prepares a counterattack, the nine pillars of ice rocket toward the brilliant, white skyline. Your vision fades to white, the sensation of high heat reversing to bitter cold as the white veil fades to freezing walls similar to what the palace's upper floor is constructed out of.[break][break]

Within the cold, the true identities of the Ninetales' riders are revealed: a Unovan Zoroark on the fire-type, and a Hisuian Zoroark on the ice-type. The Mystical Fire and Frost Breath had actually come from the two bipeds, ILLUSION masking their source. The foxes continue belching fire and ice all over you and your Pokémon, but you also now have to contend with NIGHT DAZE and BITTER MALICE from the riders' illusionary scepters![break][break]

Okay, so, Eddie realized that he had probably chosen correctly, even as they had been sent sliding across the ice pillar only to be stopped by his BLUE VEST, but things had really gone from bad to worse. The Ninetales' had been hurt, but suddenly there were double the foxes to contend with now that the Zoroark duo had revealed themselves. This stuff could never be easy, could it? [break][break]

Considering his next series of choices, Eddie found himself initially tempted to repeat his previous action, but would that really be all that effective? There was a lot more going on at this point, and it wouldn't be nearly as easy to get all four foxes to hit each other has it had been to lure the first two, not that that had been a particularly easy task to begin with. No, they needed some real firepower, some sort of overwhelming attack that would strike a dizzying blow to all of the enemy combatants involved. [break][break]

With that in mind, Eddie selected the option to TRY AND CATCH BOTH IN A Z-MOVE. Maybe if he was lucky, all of their assailants would be dispatched in one fell swoop. [break][break]

After hearing your tactic to catch both Ninetales and Zoroark in your Z-Move, Shalin adds a Z-Move of her own. Switching to her Yanmega, the flying insect soars to the top of the cold chamber and buzzes his wings at full speed in a Z-MOVE: FLITTING FORTISSIMO.[break][break]

Letting out a wail of agony from the skin-rippling vibration, the Unovan Zoroark falls from its mount and into the bubbling magma far below. Your Z-Move causes the Hisuian Zoroark to suffer a similar fate. With their two riders gone, the illusionary Ninetales vanish.[break][break]

The battleground is now an empty hall with windows to the courtyard behind them; neither ice nor fire is present. Furthermore, a door-sized gap in the eastern wall has appeared that was not present before, a bright, violet light bathing the room beyond.[break][break]

In the center of the hall beyond, in the same size as the entrance hall, are all kinds of murals dedicated to the legendary Pokémon Volcanion. In its center is a dais.
