Delilah finished tapping out a message to her assistant, snapped her phone closed, then slid it into her purse. She sighed, looking up at the HBIC Headquarters with a weary gaze.[break][break]
She'd been avoiding this.[break][break]
For no good reason, she chastised herself.[break][break]
This was a threat to her life, not some minor administrative inconvenience. The longer she delayed this, the more likely it became that Fletcher Hyland would be overrun in his efforts to keep her safe. She knew one man wasn't capable of protecting someone from an entire contingent of Rockets, should they come for her. Besides, it put him in an awkward position for his superiors to have trusted him with what was most certainly classified information, only to have her constantly nagging him about it.[break][break]
She'd take her questions to a higher authority, and get this settled once and for all.[break][break]
Then he can go back to his regular job, she thought, with an odd sense of regret - despite the fact that being her shadow was likely taking a toll on him.[break][break]
Her hand hovered over her purse, as if she were considering sending him a message...but then she dropped it to her side and entered the building, heels echoing as she glided purposefully towards the reception desk.[break][break]
"Good afternoon, I am looking to speak to an HBIC agent about a sensitive matter."[break][break]
The woman stared up at Delilah, eyes bulging at the sight of her. Clearly she recognized the idol. Social media, perhaps? Or maybe her latest television program.[break][break]
"Right away, Miss Silph! I'll see who might be available to speak with you."

Gunner was sitting at his desk, typing away at a report, when one of his bosses came around. One of the Silphs had dropped by the Bureau's headquarters without arranging an appointment beforehand—again. But instead of the illustrious FERNANDO SILPH who didn't need one and the more unpredictable MATIAS SILPH, their visitors was none other than the actress, Delilah Silph. [break][break]

"Humor her for a bit and see what she wants. If it's important, we can look into it more formally, but for now, just figure out why she's here." [break][break]

Gunner had no choice but to put aside his current task for the time being. He made his way to the small conference room where Delilah waited, making small adjustments to his suit and tie as he walked. When he reached the conference room, he spied her elegant figure through the glass window moments before he entered. [break][break]

"Miss Silph, what a surprise. I'm Gunner Graves." The man held out his hand for a shake, but only offered a slight smile, for the sake of politeness. "Unfortunately, my supervisors are all preoccupied and were unable to meet you. Is there something the Bureau can assist with?"

"A pleasure to meet you, Agent Graves," Delilah smiled, oblivious to any subtle discontent or exasperation on the man's part. She offered him a slim, immaculately manicured hand by way of a returned greeting, then primly took a seat at the only table within the conference room, crossing one graceful leg over the other.[break][break]
"I'll get right to the point, since I know the Bureau has been quite busy as of late." One dangerous anomaly after the next, according to Hoenn's major news outlets. "A few months ago, a man from the Slateport PD showed up at my doorstep claiming to have received a tip." She paused. "A threat to my life, he said."[break][break]
Do you know anyone that would wish you harm, Ms. Silph?[break][break]
She shifted, doing her best to mask the sudden unease that washed through her as she recalled that ominous, rainy evening when she'd first met Fletcher.[break][break]
"He told me the 14th precinct would be assigning him to watch over me. He's been a reliable body guard thus far, but..." she trailed off, searching for the right words. "I was curious if the HBIC had been notified of the threat?"[break][break]
Surely the Silphs were important enough to warrant a government investigation if an entity such as Team Rocket was acting against them - right?

Unlike Delilah, Gunner did not take a seat at the conference room's table. He remained standing near the door after closing it for privacy. [break][break]

"Not that I am aware of," he said, frowning. "And if no one from the Bureau has reached out to you about it, then it's likely no one's informed us. You'd be the first." [break][break]

It was not uncommon for police to investigate death threats to a civilian, and in most cases, they handled such matters themselves. The HBIC only involved themselves if the origin of such threats came from large criminal organizations or were matters of national safety. [break][break]

"Do you feel that the 14th precinct are not taking your concerns seriously?" Gunner asked.

Fletcher Hyland's chiseled features came to mind, then: brow permanently furrowed, bags under dark eyes, days-old stubble shadowing his jawline. There had always been something rather enigmatic about him - and about the vague nature of the threat on her life - but he seemed earnest enough in his dedication to her wellbeing. In fact, when he wasn't around, she felt unsettled, like she'd misplaced something important.[break][break]
"No, it's just..." Long mascara-laden eyelashes fluttered, and she gazed up at Gunner with sudden conviction. "If it were, say, Team Rocket, who wanted to harm me...the HBIC would be notified, yes?"[break][break]
Both of her brothers had dealt with the organization in the past. Would her life being in danger warrant equal scrutiny? Her lips pursed at the thought. They'd always been the League's darlings, even if she had the general public's devotion.

Gunner nodded slowly, confused by Delilah's question at first. If she suspected Team Rocket, then it was her own responsibility to inform the authorities. Who else would reach out on her behalf? Unless… [break][break]

"If the 14th precinct suspects that Team Rocket is involved, I would hope they inform us. I don't know them personally, but a competent police captain should know when matters have moved beyond his capabilities." [break][break]

He tilted his head at her. [break][break]

"Do you believe the person making death threats at you is with Team Rocket? What's the nature of these threats?" he asked, taking out his phone and pulling open the voice notes app. Recording their conversation was faster than taking notes by hand.
