she didn't wanna go outsiiiiide![break][break]

gross. the sun felt gross, the ground felt gross; everything felt gross, really. it was sweltering, even though it was supposed to be nearing into the winter this time of the year. she didn't think that she would be hit with a sauna upon arriving at this path. all she wanted to do was get some fire pokemon she could cuddle up with for those cold winter nights. at the very least, then she wouldn't be sad. and alone. by herself, on christmas. [break][break]

neverminding that, the main reason she agreed to come out from her hideout and abode was because her older brother poked and nudged at her to come out. instead of being holed up in her room for the majority of the day. did she hate it? heck, yeah she did. did she have a choice in the matter? nope. not when it came to ozzy, at least. he was her precious big brother, even though he could and would be a jerk sometimes. most of the time. meh. [break][break]

she adjust the cap on her head, but then takes it off altogether to begin fanning herself. "phew!" she sighs, rubbing the sweat off the back of her neck. "heck, this place is steaming as always. what'd you think, vega?" she tilts her head to the fennekin perched on her shoulder, and it gives a soft mewl in agreement.

Oz's hands were tucked into his pockets, his houndour trotting happily by his side. There were a couple of reasons he asked Maple to come out today - to catch pokemon, was the main one, to spend some time with him was the second. But the third, well, that was a secret for only himself.

As they walk along the path, Oz sheds his jacket and tucks it into his messenger bag that he has strapped over his shoulder. Finally, he looks back at the two young women accompanying him and gives his best, dashing smile.

He's trying to make the best of Maple's foul mood from being pulled outside and put into a hot area. She could go back to her computers later - this was bonding time.

"Come on, where's your sense of adventure? Real adventures, not those virtual ones you play in all the time." He ruffles Maple's hair and looks to Stormy. "Besides, you've got a girlfriend here!" He gestures. "You two can bond over like... I dunno. Whatever people talk about these days - I don't get out much." He laughs to himself, awkwardly.

Maybe this was a bad idea, trying to bridge the gap he was feeling lately with Maple.

Adventure was something Stormy truly enjoyed - especially if said adventure entailed visiting the fiery path. The heat was phenomenal this time of year when the rest of Hoenn had begun to cool down. Winter was fast approaching, and yet the fiery path remained hot and humid as ever, the perfect temperature for her.[break][break]

In fact, she tilted her head back to more adequately absorb the heat in her skin. She barely noticed that her companions were uncomfortable, or more accurately, Maple. The young woman had begun fanning herself with her hat to try and stave off the heat.[break][break]

And.. she wouldn't stop complaining. She may not have been voicing herself aloud, but the suggestion of her discomfort was evident on her face. Stormy would glance between her and Oz, mildly amused at his attempt to distract and entice her into actually enjoying herself out here.[break][break]

"Bonding. Yes."[break][break]

She smiles awkwardly, unsure how, exactly, to go about doing that. It was fairly obvious the two women were vastly different people and would likely have little in common.

she complains. [break][break]

heck, does she complain. but although she's vocal about her discomfort, the words from the elder brother shuts her right up - or at the very least, quiets her into a series of mocking grumbles. "what adventure? the only adventure i ever need is behind the screen~. hypocriiiite~" she blows a raspberry at him. though she appeared unhappy, she would never complain about being able to hang out with her family. the only problem she saw in this was that there was another person, and she was hella worried. like, what if maple was being a third wheel? after all, it wasn't every day you saw ozzy boy with a girl of all people. like, could you believe it? she couldn't; not her. [break][break]

she gives stormy a sparing glance and shoots a smile her way, anyway. "lessee... I have a piece of gum! or - or! - two! you want one?" she offers one of the mint gums from the packet to stormy, hoping that this could act as an ice breaker (heh, because mint? get it? she'll stop). that, and maybe it could be like, sorry for interrupting the date? well technically, it wasn't a date, but it could be a date![break][break]

which means she should find some time to set them up! yes, perhaps she will do just that! [break][break]

was her intention, at the very least. she was just about to call out to the two of them with the bright grin on her face, until a giant, purple bat thing swooshed in and had the nerve - the audacity - to grab her cutie fennekin in its grubby arms (legs? feet? mouth??) and swoop off! oh, the nerve of it! "ahhhhh! vega!" the trainer yelps out, only to pout and chuck out another pokemon in response. "triangulum! sic 'em!" and with the command, the flickering electric type sent out a charged discharge at the flying golbat. unfortunately, it also appeared to shock the fennekin, and maple's first instinct was to catch the fried fire pokemon. [break][break]

she stumbles forwards to grab the fennekin, and the golbat falls face first into the ground shortly after. "fwaaaa~" she sighs out, holding the tiny fox pokemon in her hands. she gives the golbat a small glare, and pulls out a pokeball to tap it's head. "rude!" she scolds to the pokemon in the ball. "you don't just swoop over and grab pokemon! that was rude!" she turns to stormy and ozzy, pouting slightly while holding the pokeball up. "right?~"[break][break]

As Maple starts trying to give Stormy gum, his head perks up, the sound of wings flapping around causing him to looking to the sky. Eyes wide, he stares as it carries off Maple’s fennekin, before feeling something bump into his back.

Whirling around, he stares down at a wild ponyta, raising his eyebrow. ”Oh — Hey...” He checks, then chuckles. ”Hey girl...” His fingers brush over the wild ponyta’s nose, the heat from the flames not burning him, but being comfortably warm. ”Ah... You’re pretty. Are you looking for food?”

While Maple handles to Golbat, Oz pulls out his pokemon food, pulling out some of the pieces he gave to the rapidash and ponyta at his ranch. ”Here you go, girl.” He smooths her hair down again, letting her eat from his hand. Once she was eating, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a pokeball, holding it up. ”Would you like to come with me, for more?” The ponyta let out a little cry, and Oz nodded, bumping her nose with the pokeball.

Maple reaches into her bag somewhere to find gum and Stormy notices a little late that she's trying to offer her a piece. Stormy clears her throat awkwardly and shakes her head, lifting a hand to reject the offer politely.[break][break]

"Not much of a gum fan, really."[break][break]

Their awkward pause is thankfully put on hold as a Golbat swoops low overhead, scooping up the other woman's Fennekin. Panic swells in her breast as she takes a step forward, fully prepared to grab the Pokemon out of the sky. Unfortunately, she's too slow and Maple is forced to use another one of her Pokemon to rescue the first one.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Oswald is meeting and befriending a very bashful and curious Ponyta. Part of her tenses at how easily and calmly he composes himself and how willing the young filly was to trust him. It had not been so easy to tame and capture Rapidash back in the day. Although.. she had not been so gentle and willing to compromise back then either. And Apollo had been fully grown yet still young and buck-wild.[break][break]

She rubs the back of her neck awkwardly as Maple deals with her situation and Oz deals with his, when suddenly something bumps into the back of her calf. She blinks, surprised and a little startled, and she turns to see a young Torkoal sitting at her feet, thoroughly unsure how he'd gotten there. In surprise, he bursts a cloud of white smoke, to which Stormy begins to both cough and sob.[break][break]

When the smoke cloud clear she's kneeling next to the Pokemon and stroking its shell, tears welling in her eyes as she fights to compose herself.[break][break]

"Oh my, you're a handsome boy, aren't you?"[break][break]

The Torkoal grunts indifferently, but seems content to be stroked as he hasn't bothered to move away. [break][break]

Stormy reaches for a pokeball, seemingly contemplating taking him with her. Her hand is shaking and she's overwhelmed, but does eventually coax herself into tapping the ball against his head to capture him.[break][break]

"I'll name you Pyrrhis, after a Torkoal who looks just like you."[break][break]

And you remind me too, of the one I've lost.[break][break]

She whispers that to herself as he's absorbed into the ball. She stands, wiping tears away from her cheeks.[break][break]

"that was rude of it!" [break][break]

the young woman whines for a bit after slipping the pokeball back into the bag. unfortunately, her fennekin had taken a nasty blow due to a reckless discharge done by her cute little, buzzing bundle of plasma. the only solution? putting the pokemon right back into her pokeball. with a glance towards the two other trainers, maple's grin only broadens seeing them content with catching pokemon of their own. it seemed that the pokemon liked coming out, at the very least. [break][break]

but looking, she sees stormy wiping her cheeks. awh, was the poor thing crying? oh gosh, she was crying, wasn't she? no! maple couldn't be having that! though it would have been wiser to leave it as it is, maple opted with grabbing onto stormy's wrist with the same, bright grin on her face. "i'm glad that everything's working out!" though she's trying; trying her best to lighten the mood. [break][break]

she really felt like a third wheel. [break][break]

but! deep breaths, maple! the day was young! people were young! meetings were young![break][break]

and the croagunk who was sleeping on the path was definitely young, too. unfortunately for the brunette, she found her legs tangled up by the poison frog pokemon, and she lets out an abrupt yelp as she raises her hands to cushion her fall to the rocks. the yelp startled her rotom, and it immediately let out a discharge on instinct. the poor thing; before it could wake up, it had already been shocked (and probably fried) by the young woman's electric pokemon. [break][break]

maple sits herself up and, slowly, taps another pokeball on the frog pokemon's head. just a bit of a hoarder, she was. [break][break]

"heh~.. sorry about that~." she gives both her brother and stormy a nervous smile as she stands up and brushes the ashes and dirt off her jeans.

Oz catches a glimpse of Stormy's face as she wipes her tears, and something tugs in his heart, but he pretends she's fine when Maple steps in to encourage her. Right. He smiles softly at how soft and caring Maple could be sometimes - in a split second, right after calling him out.

The next pokemon comes at them in a sneakier way, and Oz blinks, grappling for Maple as she falls, but she's handling it, and suddenly the pokemon is gone and they're all standing alone on the path again, like nothing's happened.

"Ah - good job, Maple." He smiles, then gives Stormy a glance, eyes wandering over her face. In his eyes - you okay? - but he says nothing, his fingertips squeezing her wrist gently, thumb pressing into the bone.
[break][break]
He lets go when he hears a roar, and blinks, turning around. A female pyroar, who seems agitated, has climbed up onto a rock above them. He stands beside Stormy and in front of Maple instinctively, grabbing a pokeball from his belt. His thumb taps the button as he releases Bruiser, his houndour. He nods to his little buddy and watches as the little pup opens his mouth and releases smog after clambering up onto the rock, before he gives the Pyroar a big warning crunch.

When the Pyroar goes to attack, headbutting Bruiser, he crunches her neck, and Oz gasps, before clicking a pokeball. "Shit." He tosses it, saving the Pyroar from his own pokemon, while also returning Bruiser to his own ball.

Theres more commotion than just the three Pokemon that first showed up. So while Stormy continues to fight back that overwhelming sense of grief, the Torkoal having brought back sensitive memories, she is taken aback and prickly when Maple reaches to comfort her.[break][break]

"I'm fine, please don't touch me."[break][break]

She holds back the snarl to be more polite, but she shrugs away from the woman who hasn't done anything wrong, shes just being nice. Her eyes meet Oz's as he glances over her dried tears. She glances away, uncomfortable.[break][break]

Oswald and Maple both manage to catch two more Pokemon while a tiny Fennekin darts past, too afraid of their big Pokemon to worry about lingering. Or maybe it was because Stormy's Stantler had finally caught up to them in the heat and was downright pissed off having to deal with so many fire-types.[break][break]

The Stantler grunts, shuddering and shaking her antlers. It had help up a continuous intimidate against the Fennekin as it raced between its legs. Now, however, the Stantler pressed its face up into Stormys hand, puffing with exhaustion.[break][break]

"Oh dear, where did you run off to?"

prick, as int he sudden attitude. now normally, most people would have been taken aback - or even offended - that their attempts to comfort were scoffed at. maple? perhaps a bit. maybe the slightest bit, but she plays the obvious one. after all; ignorance was bliss, was it not? everything will be alright, so long as she plays dumb (always playing dumb; everything was easier that way). everyone was so much more easier to deal with that way. maple maintains the grin, even when she's brushed asides. she raises her hands up next to her, giggling softly while stepping back with a hop in her step. "sorry! i get a little carried away~" and it makes people uncomfortable; it's all for a reason. now with her hands raised up, she begins to shake and give jazz hands to the two other trainers. now as for her brother? she chuckles and holds a peace sign up to the man in a playful, light-hearted manner. "youuuu're still treating me to dragging me outta my room~" she chimes, taking another few steps along the crags. [break][break]

"you aren't free with a complimeeeee---OWWWW OWOWOW--" her words raise in an unceremonious crescendo, more so in a sing-song voice as her leg kicks against the spike of a mareanie trying to avoid the scorching heat. was it her fault for running into the pokemon? of course not! it was the pokemons fault or walking all around in her path! god, this is why she hated going out. pulling her leg back and holding it, she points to the rotom buzzing around. "discharge!" she commands, to which the rotom buzzes and lets out that flash of bright electricity once again. [break][break]

aaaand, as per routine, she chucks a pokeball at the probably fried poison pokemon. maple takes a moment to take a look down at the wound caused by the poison pokemon.ah.. at least it wasn't anything too serious.

Rolling his eyes, Oswald avoids actually answering his sister for the time being - this is supposed to be her and Stormy getting to know each other through something other than vague descriptions in letters and by word of mouth. Not him hanging out with either one of them. Maybe she should have set them up to meet alone?

He frowns as another pokemon assaults his sister, and his eyebrow raises, stuffing his hands into his pockets. "Are you wearing a lure or something?" He kicks Maple's shoe and turns around as a heatmor waddles across the path, minding it's own business. The pokemon barely takes notice, before disappearing again among the bushes.

"Because if you are... I'm literally going to throw you into the volcano." He points, narrowing his eyes at Maple.
