He’s supposed to be dealing with a new recruit today, and while when Mars does so that generally means some task to put their usefulness in smuggling to the test (unless speaking of very specific candidates), Levy Alinsky benefits from the fact that a Space-Time distortion just to happens to appear in Rusturf Tunnel.

The instructions the recruit are given are clear:

- Go to the eastern edge of the distortion. [break][break]
- Bring your strongest pokémon.

M.A.G.M.A would benefit from the footage, but Mars has also always had his own reasons to be interested in Space-Time Distortions, and the experience would be good to see if this new recruit is of any use at this sort of fieldwork. Three birds, one stone.

So is that at the east entrance to Rusturf Tunnel, near Verdanturf Town, and right outside of the thundering membrane that surrounds the Space-Time Distortion, a masked man suddenly appears near the recruit. The Natu on his shoulder would perhaps explain this act of TELEPORTATION.

Gently taking it in his, he extends her hand so that her palm is facing up, and after looking at it for a second, as if in deep consideration, something begins to appear in Eris’ grasp. A figure. Grey and blue. A perfect scale model of Reiner.

The Braviary responds with a screech of its own, swooping down and casting its MYSTICAL FIRE upon the tall grass. One second… two… three… It only takes a count to twelve for the first Treecko to appear, attempting to run away from the flames.

Then, he just continues on his way, leaving the burning grass behind. Surely the warden won’t mind, right?

A DRAGON PULSE clears the area around him, saving him from ending up in the grasp of one of the things that just so happens to get a little too close when Mars isn’t looking. After gesturing for his Samurott, the armoured pokémon circles back towards him, and holding onto it, Mars gestures up towards the surface.

The pokéball is taken from his Clawitzer, and then the water type is returned to its own.
[break][break]
His Starmie, on the other hand, clings to the Samurott while it swims up, as if watching their backs against the creatures that seem intent on having them join their ranks.
[break][break]
Once they break through the SMOKESCREEN, they’re gone, and finally able to use his abilities again, instead of waiting to climb up onto the boat, Mars grabs onto bryan delarosa and TELEPORTS them both far from these waters. It’s only then that he radios those still on the vessel so they can get the hell out of there too.

He doesn't bother with checking the content of the pokéball, but he will send it to Rowan Wrynn along with his report.

At least they had gotten the lights to work.

It floats too close, almost as if aware Mars knows its species well, and because of its presence, memories come to mind of the Munna he has lost in gruesome ways. Time and again. Should he feel guilty? Should he feel pain? Maybe, but even if Mars were to search for those feelings within him, he probably wouldn’t find them…

They just hadn’t mattered enough.

They had been good pokémon and had done their duty, but in the end, most pokémon are tools and nothing else.

Sometimes Sigilyph make Mars think of the Unown, and he wonders if the symbols would be upset by it. There’s just something reminiscent of them in the Avianoid Pokémon. Is it their singular eye? Is it their cryptic nature? Maybe it’s both. Maybe it’s just a feeling.

Mars wonders about it when he sees the wild Sigilyph approach, but as is the case with most wild pokémon, once it notices that they mean it no harm and that there’s nothing of actual interest in the incense’s mist, it leaves all on its own.

There a slight note of concern there, because Tempest Quinn had almost died, but mostly there’s a smirk and a hint of what could be taken as a jab. It’s good to see Temp out and about again. And, for a battle, of all things? The last time they had battled had been when Mars challenged the other’s gym in Pacifidlog, and that feels like it had been an eternity ago, so of course he would agree. Mars loves a good battle, after all.

Also, M.A.G.M.A training matters to him. Who are we kidding, though, it’s mostly the battle part. He had even made sure to meet at the casino's underground training facilities, so they wouldn't have to worry about damaging the sub.

”Okay, let’s see your Zarude. I swear it can’t be as bad as you make it out to be.”

He knows legendary pokémon aren’t easy to train. His own Urshifu is a testament to that. It had taken time, effort, and a whole lot of patience to get the proud and stubborn Wushu Pokémon to respect his commands, but as a result, when he calls Oreius out of a Luxury Ball, the huge bear is calm.

His imposing figure towers over them, looking directly at Temp while standing in front of Mars. He’s silent, solemn, waiting for the order to attack.
