Florian's momentarily captivated by the Starmie as it appears, the hypnotic rhythm of its spinning points drawing him in. He's gazing into the red gem at its core when Joli lets out a trill and smacks Florian with one of his ribbon-like feelers.[break][break]

"Joli!" he scolds, then laughs when he realises what had happened. "Oops! Sorry, Jo."[break][break]

Urging Laverre forward and away from the small pond where they'd encountered the Starmie, Florian sweeps the hair from his eyes and gazes out across the snowy expanse for the next point of interest.

It's snowing! In Hoenn![break][break]

As a Kalos native, Florian's no stranger to snowfall, but the general consensus in the Hoenn region seems to be that this does not happen, and so he finds himself swept up in the excitement of it all. Sure, the cold is awful and he has to bundle up in some extra layers before heading outside, but the region looked beautiful in the snow.[break][break]

The Safari Zone seems to have taken full advantage of the freak weather conditions, and he finds himself riding on horseback into the depths of the snow-covered sanctuary.[break][break]

"I wonder what we might find, darling," he hums to Joli, who balances carefully in front of Florian and takes care not to dig his claws into poor Laverre. "I hear there are ice-types appearing all around Hoenn now! How exciting!"

"Oh!"[break][break]

Florian startles when a — surprising soft — mass crashes into his foot, barely unbalancing him but causing quite a shock nevertheless. He looks down to see a rather familiar Wooloo staring back at him, the little crown on its head askew from its tumble.[break][break]

"Well hello, darling," he laughs, reaching down to give it a welcoming scratch between its horns. He straightens up to beam at Alexei, not seeming bothered in the slightest. "No need to apologize; they are very cute. This is the little one from the farm, no?"[break][break]

How could he forget the little fluffball?[break][break]

"I have my darling Ponyta with me as well; she is a Rapidash now, and she has changed quite a bit!" He's careful to make sure that she won't be in anyone's way as he releases the equine from her Pokeball, Laverre tossing her pastel-colored mane and letting out a snort. She's certainly different from the fiery-maned Ponyta that he'd received from the farm. "I do not know how she came to look this way, but she is beautiful, is she not?"[break][break]

He returns her to her ball as Carina and Abeille flit off together, giggling at Alexei's dramatics. He returns the theatrics with a flourishing bow, ridiculous and silly as he always was. "Well, perhaps your League may not be of use, but together we will raise all of the funds you need." He claps his hands together, still smiling. "How is your advertising? Are you offering samples to draw people in? It smells delightful out here; that is sure to bring in customers."

Florian lets out a contented sigh, smiling wide at the Cutiefly that's now buzzing happily about his ear. "You hear that, Abeille? You will be able to spend all year in your garden!"[break][break]

Though he can't understand the high-pitched buzzing she returns, he can tell his Pokemon is delighted.[break][break]

"Oh, don't worry," Florian laughs, "I brought plenty of cold-weather clothing. I had not thought to look up weather patterns before the move!"[break][break]

There was a reason for that: the move had been a spontaneous decision, a spur-of-the-moment leap of faith. It was for similar reasons that the small house in Verdanturf had become a home; it was well-priced and available on short notice, and here they were.[break][break]

"Oh, I, um —" Truth be told, he hadn't given it much thought beyond yes, flowers, and it takes him a flustered moment to gather himself and answer. "Only as much as they can spare! I would not want to be an inconvenience."[break][break]

Little did he know that 'as much as they could spare' would turn out to be... a lot.[break][break]

"Thank you, Carina," Florian says sweetly as he accepts the offered Pollen Puff. He's always appreciated the Alolan delicacy; it was not common in Kalos, but a fairy-type researcher certainly knew ways to get their hands on them. To Alexei, he nods. "But of course!"

"I'm a professor!" Florian informs her, beaming wide. "I try to make it my business to learn of as many Pokemon as I can, though I specialize in fairy-types." That much is probably obvious, what with the Sylveon at his heels and the Comfey resting in his hair. "I like grass types as well, though. And bugs. Really, I like most Pokemon!"[break][break]

Even the Lickitung, odd creature though it was, did not escape Florian's notice. It's not one that he plans on collecting, nor is it a particular favourite, but he hasn't yet registered its data in the Pokedex, and that makes it a prime target.[break][break]

"You are adorable too, you know," he tells it softly, noticing how it stares with longing at Annie and her newfound friend in Whimsicott. It turns to look at him, its massive tongue lolling out of its mouth. Joli looks disgusted, but Florian is unperturbed. "If you are looking for a place to stay, I think I could find a home for you."[break][break]

Not among his team, for he fears the poor thing wouldn't fit in well with his usual types, but he'd made a lot of contacts over the years. He can think of a few people that might appreciate it.[break][break]

After it evolves, though...[break][break]

Being that it doesn't seem wholly opposed to the idea, Florian pulls out a pokeball from his bag; it's bright pink and adorned with a heart. He offers it in Lickitung's direction, trusting the Pokemon to make its own choice.

Florian is instantly captivated by the appearance of the living-tree, even if he does have to crane his neck to look up at it.

"Oh, I've heard of these!" Exeggcutor, but hailing from the tropics of Alola. He knows a fair bit about the island-based region, being that it housed so many native fairy-types. He hopes to visit, someday. "They are so much bigger than I imagined!"[break][break]

He's like a kid on Christmas, gawking up at it with unrestrained wonder. He spares a glance at Annie when she asks a question, offers her a smile. "Perhaps they do not understand the words," he shrugs, because it's not like his Pokemon had ever told him they could, "but I have always spoken to them as if they can. I think they understand intentions." Certainly, he knew that Pokemon reacted differently to an aggressive tone than his own, soft-spoken one. "This one does not seem to mean harm?"[break][break]

Nor did the Sawsbuck that lingered at the treeline, watching Annie's Weavile cautiously. Its horns are bare, a thick coat of winter fur adorning its neck like a scarf.[break][break]

"You can tell the season by its horns," he tells Annie, still smiling at the majestic creature. "How they are now indicates that it is winter, though it's different in Hoenn than where they're from."

abeille has evolved!

Florian's little house on the edge of Verdanturf came alive with sugary-sweet scents that morning, the back door open to the outside air as his newly-evolved Rimbombee buzzed between the kitchen and garden. She'd been in high spirits ever since their first visit to Fortree; Florian had followed Alexei's advice and scattered the seeds from the park alongside what full-grown plants he'd bought to give the space a vibrant head-start. Abeille had taken to tending the gardens as faithfully as she had back home, and she no longer seemed to pine for the familiarity of Kalos.[break][break]

Florian himself was still adjusting to life in Hoenn, surfing the web for different things to do in the region in order to feel more at home. It was here that he'd discovered that there would be a bake-sale in Fortree, and well... how could he resist?[break][break]

"Thank you, my dear," Florian tells Abeille sweetly as she carefully sets a final pollen puff on top of the crepes. "Do you want to come with me to Fortree?"[break][break]

She stays at home more often than not, fussing like a mother-hen over the fledgling garden, but she flits directly in front of his face and bumps against his nose. That was, undoubtedly, a plea to come along.[break][break]

They arrive by air-taxi, Florian leaving a tip before he sets off in the direction of scent-and-sound. It's unmistakable where the sale is being held, and Florian's expression lights up as he spots a friendly face amidst the chaos. Two friendly faces; Florian’s almost sure he recognizes that ball of fluff as one of the ones they’d protected. And now it has a little crown![break][break]

"Alexei!" he calls, greeting the gym leader like an old friend despite only spending a small amount of time together. Florian was quick to accept others into his life. "This is your sale, no? My Abeille and I have brought gifts!"[break][break]

The Ribombee takes off from his shoulder and buzzes around the gym leader in greeting. Florian approaches at a more leisurely pace, holding up the warming-bag he'd filled with traditional Kalosian treats. Macarons, crepes, and the famous Lumiose Galettes.[break][break]

"Let me know how I can help, mon amie. For a good cause!"

Florian blinks at the other trainer, a little confused by the question. Of course he hadn't fought it! It was adorable, and it hadn't meant him any harm.[break][break]

"No?" It comes out as a question, his brow furrowed. He yawns again, shaking off the last vestiges of the Wigglytuff's song. "I did nothing, except to compliment her singing. It was quite nice, no?"[break][break]

It's not until the girl approaches the Chansey with a somewhat amusing display of friendliness that Florian realises she might have seen the Wigglytuff as a potential threat; such a thought is hilarious to Florian, with his delicate teammates, but he does not laugh at her. It's sweet to see that she's trying, and he's happy to have shown her a different path.[break][break]

"See? Some Pokemon are simply curious."[break][break]

Like the ghostly little stump that lingers at the forests edge as if uncertain whether or not to approach, its haunting cry resembling a child-like wail. The sound sends a shiver down Florian's spine, but he thinks the Phantump looks lonely, maybe a little lost. He's familiar with the rumours surrounding their species, and he's gentle in his approach.[break][break]

"You're safe," he coos, holding out a hand. The possessed stump hovers closer, uncertain. Florian offers a warm smile. "You are looking for a friend, no? I can be your friend."

"No winter? At all?" He seems shocked by the concept, but his expression slowly morphs into a delighted grin. "Ah, such news could not be more welcome! I cannot imagine being able to garden all year long. Magnifique!"

His thoughts drift into daydreams of a year-round garden and of never needing to bury himself beneath so many layers of winter clothing, no need for his delicate grass and fairy Pokemon to stay inside their Pokeballs.[break][break]

"But of course! I would want nothing more than an outdoor garden I would not have to bid farewell to every autumn!" Laverre was gorgeous in autumn, with its colourful foliage and the smell of damp leaves. He had to admit that he would miss spring, as well, the excitement of seeing his perennial flowers return to life, little green shoots in the earth. Still, no winters. "I had only thought to use indoor pots because I assumed that it would be too cold, but you have told me otherwise monsieur!"[break][break]

It's equally nice to hear that gardening is encouraged in Verdanturf; he had noticed that many of his neighbours cultivated plenty of flowers.[break][break]

"Oh, would you be so kind? That would be delightful!"[break][break]
