Another day, another hunt. However, he wasn’t hunting Pokémon he didn’t have. In fact, he was looking for Pokémon he already owned.

He loved for houndour and houndooms was something he just couldn’t escape form. When a trade it up for the species, he jumps on them right away. It was like an abdication and he was overdosing.

Either way, he was already out and about in hopes he would find something special. With him, he had Azusa and a few others.

Warm orbs flickered to a figure on land, noticing the person looking about for someone or something. Hoping that this was the person he was battling, Maverick softly tapped his salamence and pointed in the person’s direction. The dragon let out a low growl, displeased with her trainer’s demand but did so. The dragon lowered them down to the ground, landing gracefully before shifting her weight to let her pesky human off her back.

Once off, Maverick turned to the trainer. “Oh hey,” he greeted, taking a mental note on who he might be battling, “You're here for the underwater battle, right?” Maverick would say he was surprised that he was battling him today with Lars being a head ranger and all, but he wasn’t. But the man did however, hope to put up a good fight to impress him even if it was just a little. “How do you want to do this?” He questioned, reaching into his pockets to pluck out several balls, “I’m open for anything really. Just need to get these pokemon some excises.” He paused for a moment, realizing Lar’s probably didn’t know who he was despite Maverick being a former gym leader here. “The name is Maverick by the way.”

Turning to the water, Maverick summoned his first pokemon. The oddly colored gyarados roared with life, raged filled eyes glared at the human opponent. "You can have first move."

The duel type soared through the sky, her wings hard as steel in an attempt to hit the dragonite. To her surprise, she only manages to scrape the creature with her steel wing. But before she could get away or prepare herself for another attack, the large dragon whipped itself around. It’s tail cover in water. Azula’s eyes widen, thrusting her wings down hard in hopes to dodge the aqua tail.

She could almost feel the mist from the attack as she barely got enough distance away from it. “Nice dodge, use Flare Blitz!” The talonflame wasted no time, her body became engulfed in flames in the matter of seconds. And as she circled the dragon to get more speed, Izumi drove straight at the aragonite without any hesitation. Although she was close, landing a hit was still risky as she too would receive damage from such an impact.

She was brave.

The trainer watched as she doused the water pokemon with water in hopes to keep it alive and probably happy. It seemed too amused, however, when she plucked it off the ground and made a bee line for the ocean. With the wild pokemon being a temperamental poisonous type, that was defiantly a risky move on her part. Even as she yeeted the creature back into the water and it swam away, he had to admit he was impressed with her valor.

“That was risky,” he mumbled to her, but over a small smile, “But at least its back in the water.”

Turning back to the managed ripped up net, Maverick began to clean up the mess. Snatching small handfuls of mess with his hands before turning to put it in the garbage attached to Azula. Once all the fishing line was picked up, his warm gaze turned to her. “I think that’s all of it over here.” His gaze shifted to the rest of the beach, eyes squinted to see if there was anymore trash they needed to pick up. “Do you see anymore that we need to pick up?”

To Maverick surpsied, Sovar’s hit somehow got them a point. He blinked in shock, even as Zac complimented them on their score. Again, he looked to him slightly puzzled. He was never good at sports but apparently, he was half decent at this one. Or at least, for now. “Ahhh,” he managed to get out in his disbelief, “Yeah. Thanks.” His gaze turned to his Infernape who too, seemed surpassed. “Nice job, Sovar.” The infernape grinned, happy that he did something right for once.

As Maverick and his team readied for the next match to start, he couldn’t help but give a light chuckle at Zac team motivation speech. Whatever works, right? He would give it to his team but honestly, he was still lost.

Suddenly, the ground began to quake and sent one of his creature into the air as another sent the little spheal in their direction with such great force. Maverick panicked slightly, rushing forward to hit the ball back. However, his feet didn’t agree as he fell and face planted that sand. The machamp rushed over to the ball, fist took on a brilliant red glow before he DYNAMIC PUNCHed the ball back over.

Seeing the Tyrantrum made Maverick feeling guilty that he has yet to do any good training with his. Of course being a fellow dragon type fanatic, he couldn’t help but admire such a strong beast. But this wasn’t the time to drool over the dragon, it was time to battle.

Multiple green glowing jagged rocks was hurled in his shiny rapidash’s direction in the matter a seconds. “Use agility to dodge,” the man barked, “Then smart strike!”

The rapidash darted forward, body took on a low pinkish glow as she darted through the ancient power. Her speed increased as she barely dodged the sharp rocks that wanted to slice her up. And when close enough, Shelby thrusted her horn into the dragon anywhere she could. Her hope that she agility would be her the edge to attack without giving the creature enough time to react to her being so close.

The burnt scared man gave him a nod followed by a mumbled “Cheers.” Eyes gaze upon the two creature Kaz summoned, admiring the dragon and weary about the other. Being a dragon lover himself, he knew what to expect from the hakamo-o but the mimikyu was another story. Either way, the trainer got the hint as he motioned to Azula to join the fight. Of course, the massive hell hound didn’t not hesitate as she stepped forward to join the fight. She needed to work on her team fighting anyway.

Kaz wasted time in making his move. Maverick silently applaud him before being wise in accepting his generous offer. A smirk tugged the edge of his lips as the thrill of battling rushed through him. Oh Arceus, how he loved to battle. “Azula, take it with Counter. Ozai, counter with Shadow Bone.”

The hell hound’s body becomes outlined in orange glow and absorbed the scales only to send them back at her opponent with twice the amount of damage if it hits.

Ozai twirled his flame bone, eyes narrowed as the scales was hurt his way. Much like bating practice, the creature tried to smack the scales as they came his way. The first was hit on the mark, forcing the scale to dissipate upon contact. However, there was too many all at once and a few send him back as they hit. Pain rippled through him, but he would not let that knock him out. Taking a deep breath, the creature launched himself forward with the hopes of using his SHADOW BONE on hakammo-o anywhere he could.

It didn’t take long for his opponent for today to appear. And to his surprise, he too had a massive canine creature by his side. Maverick wondered if Evo, this arcanine, would be covetous of this one. The creature was too proud for his own good. Surely, he would be anxious with his mate being around this fella. But that wasn’t what he was to focus on at that moment, it was time to battle.

“Hey,” he greeted in a friendly yet flat down, even giving him a small wave, “I’m good. Nice arcanine.” Maverick had too. There was something about the fiery beast he could not help but admire. “The name is Maverick.” It was in his instant to give his name, beaten into him to be proper that it. “And yeah, I can take first move.” Warm gaze flickered to the dragon who looked down upon them as though they were peasants. Mav stifled a chuckle, knowing damn well what this trainer was dealing with. It didn’t matter to Maverick though. Looks can always be deceiving.

Reaching into his pocket, the man plucked out a ball and released the creature within. The oddly colored talonflame stretched her wings out and let out a loud screeched before hovering above her trainer. Her beady eyes narrowed at this pathetic waste of creature that seemed to not know he was in the presence of molters’s daughter. He will learn quick enough.

Maverick moved a few feet away to give the creature plenty of room to fight even though he was sure the battle will be in the sky. “Alright Izumi, show me what you got.” The fire bird let out another screech when she was giving freedom to do what she pleased. Her pathetic human has no idea she only dealt with him because she was sure her father wanted her to learn something form him. The talonflame began by flapping her wings, creating a TAILWIND to give her extra speed. With her ability GALE WING, she was about to use it before she soared straight at the aragonite. Her wing took on a low glow, hoping to hit the creature with a solid STEEL WING.

Maverick had a late start in the tournament so he had a lot of ground to cover in a short amount of time. After taking a small break to get somethings taken care of, he thought that this tournament would be a good kick in the rear to get things going again. The man had an many pokemon that still need some good old practice.

His warm gaze fell upon the man as he greeted him, giving him a casual shrug of his shoulders. “I’m down for whatever,” he replied blankly, reaching into his pockets to grab several spheres, “Let’s just wing it and see what happens I guess.”

With that, the man released a creature with a simply press of a button. The alolan marowak scrapped each end of his bone on his skull, lighting each end with flames. He twirled the bone before him, ready to fight. The man moved a distance away from the man before turning, Azula by his side. “The name is Maverick by the way. You can have first move- What was your name?”

The woman’s little fox was quick. It darted pass even him and thrashed at the fishing net. And when they arrived, a qwilfish flapped about. It puffed up, ready to send out spikes to protect itself. Maverick backed up, hands rose to cover his face from the projectiles. However, the little water was weak and flattened out. “Oh shit,” he cursed in a low tone, finding it odd that one of these were in a trap. Then again, these could be poachers nets. “We should probably get it back in the water and clean these nets up.”

Turning back to Giselle, he gave her a shrug. “Do you have anything that can either pick up the Qwilfish and move it to the water or something to protect us from its quills so we can do it?” Unfortunately, Maverick didn’t bring any extra pokemon with him today. It was unusual for him but he honestly didn’t think he would need it. After all, they were just cleaning up garbage. Can you blame him? “Or if not, we can see if there is anything on the beach that might help. Like.. a towel that had been left behind or something.” There was still a lot of trash that needed to be picked up.
