It was time to test this fliers. And honestly, he didn’t know what it was but he always loved sky battles. Both watching the battle go down and participating in them. Even if he lost, there was something great about them.

The only hard thing was, who should be battle with first? Many of them don’t have that much battle experience. And although this wasn’t a tournament, it did reflect his imagine.

Warm colored orbs flickered over the sandy beach, waiting for his opponent to appear and lost deep within his own thoughts. Azula, his beloved six foot seven hell houndoom, stood proud by his side. High alert as always.

It wasn’t because of his fear of drowning, it was that most of his battles he fought where on land.

Maverick watched as the woman captured the sandshrew successfully and Azula brought back the ball that held the luxio. But before he could guess again, their evening was cut short when his phone pinged in his pocket. A sigh escaped him as he reached into his pocket, gaze flickered over the screen to he was being summoned to some where else. So much for his day off.

He stood, clearly unpleased with something from the device before he shoved it back in his pocket. “It looks like I’m needed else where,” he informed her, brushing off his pants before giving her a small farewell wave, “Thanks for invite. I guess I’ll see you around.” With that, the man recalled the hell hound in her ball despite her protest and made his way off the roof top without another word.

This was defiantly a different one for Mav. And if anyone knew Maverick, they would be shocked if not traumatized to hear what he was about to do. Maverick wasn’t the type to play games especially anything related to sports. Yeah, he worked out every now and again to keep his health. But this, this was different.

Making his way down the beach, a voice rang out that got his attention. Warm colored orbs flickered over a friendly man and his team waving him over. “Oh hey,” he replied, assuming this was the person he was to meet up with, “The name is Maverick.” As he approached, it was clear by the twisted expression on his face that he was still confused as to what type of battle he was doing. The person who notified him explained it, but the man was still puzzled.

Reaching into his pocket, he summoned three pokemon. The first was an infernape, next lucario, and lastly machamp. All have been brief on what their trainer thinks they are doing today. Once on their side of the field, the man turned to Zac. “Uhhh… I think we are ready when you are.” There was a lot of uncertainty in his voice.

The floppy ears houndour at his feet pouted, soft whimpers expelled from her while her gaze flickered over their surrounds. That is, until she spotted another human. Ayra stood up, stubby tail wagged with excitement at the sight of another human that could give her attention. She even let out a small playful bark while the woman approached. However, her joy was short lived when she noticed other pokemon with her. The puppy whined and shoved her body between her masters legs, scared. This alerted Maverick, turning his attention to the woman as she introduced herself.

“Hmm- Yeah,” the scarred man replied, extending his own hand in a single soft shake before his hands returned back to his pockets, “Maverick is the name.” He shifted his weight, accidentally stepping on the pup beneath him. She yelped loudly, but refused to get out from under her masters feet. The trainer made of noise of annoyance, plucking the puppy out from underneath his feet to hold her. He scowled at her, only to roll his eyes when she pawed played at his face playfully. “Really.” Arya muzzle parted and her tongue fell out, happy to be held. Again, Maverick rolls his eyes before returning his attention back to his partner.

“Sorry,” he apologized, holding the puppy close to him, “She is afraid of other pokemon but loves people.” Arya gaze shifted to the woman, eyes became big to her the puppy look in hopes the new human would pet her. While Arya tried to get the woman to pet her, Maverick gave her a hint of a smile and a small nod towards the house. “Are you ready to see what we are about to get into?”

What ever caused the burning sensation in his arm soon vanished into nothing, including the pain from the initial injury. Once taut muscles and ridged frame began to relax as the woman spoke to the little pup at her feet. The floppy earned pup headed titled, unsure of what she was saying. But the look on her face told the pup she wasn’t getting any loving from her at the moment. Ayra let out a small whine and stood, her head hung as she slowly move away.

Maverick’s gaze lifted from the disappointed pup to Eva. His warm orbs unintentionally observed her delicate feminine facial features. From her silky smooth skin, brush rosy cheeks, gorgeous vibrant green eyes, petite button nose, and to her enticing plush lips. And as he gaze at her in a daze, there was something that called to him. It push him to close to gap between them. The desire to feel her soft lips against his rough ones, to pull her in close and never let go. His body even began to move for him, shifting his weight to get closer. But just as his body shifted, reality hit Maverick.

The man quickly turned his head away, forcing a cough to get rid of the sudden discomfort he felt. The man was careful not to move to much as he still had his arm. He felt his own cheeks get hot, too hot while forcing out a few more fake coughs in hopes they would cover up for whatever he was about to do and get rid of this weird feelings he had. “I’m sorry,” he spat out as if he was choking on something before wiping his mouth on his other shoulder, “I must’ve choked on my own saliva or something.”

Once he felt like his face was no longer hot, or at least he hoped, he returned his attention back to Eva. “What were you- Oh yeah. I’ll go to the doctors later. Thanks for help me.” He offered her an amiable smile, hoping she didn’t noticing another either and tried to shift the topic swiftly. “Oh and thanks for saving Lukas. I’m sure we would both be dead without you.” What was wrong with him? Why did he get those feelings? That desire. It was nothing he has never felt before. Was is the shot that made him feel that way?

About a mile up the path, another creature materialized before them. The purple ghost figure strolled out, large jewel eyes turned to glare at the human and its creature. There was something about sableye that was creepy. But what it was, Maverick never understood. Either way, the ghost and dark type’s were a rare find and he wasn’t about to pass up the opportunity to let one go. Although he already had one himself, he was sure he could find a home for this one.

Without a moment to waste, the trainer barked his command to attack the creature. The oddly colored umbreon leaped forward without a second thought. Her tail took on a white silvery glow, swaggering back and forth in hopes to make her actions less predictable. And when she was close, the creature whipped herself around intending to slam her iron tail into the creature. To no surprise however, the creature easily dodged her advance but didn’t flee like Maverick was expecting. “Don’t let it get away Nisha,” the man shouted, “Iron tail again!”

Nisha was an agile creature, leaping to avoid the sableye scratch attack with ease. She circled the creature, letting her tail once again take the glow of its power. And when she saw an opening, the fox like creature attempted another iron tail attack. But unlike last time, the attack hit. The sableye screeched, shielding its back as it took a few paces back. “Dark pulse.” The umbreon could fell the dark aura build within her in that matter of seconds of her trainer uttering the command. Her muzzle parted as the darkness formed in her mouth and swiftly fired at the creature form close range. The sableye didn’t stand a chance as it got blasted with the dark pulse.

Maverick snatched an empty ball from his pocket and gave it a good toss. The ball hit its mark, opening up only to suck the creature in and close behind it. A hint of a smile tugged the edges of his lips as he approached the wiggling back. His hand extend out to pat the top of his umbreon’s head as she guarded over the ball in case it got out. “I think we will head home after this capture,” he told the pokemon, knowing she probably didn’t understand, “I feel a nap coming on.” Nisha let out a pleased meow like reply. The trainer accepting it as an reply back.

It didn’t take long for the pair to run into another wild creature. His shiny umbreon was the first to sense it, letting out a low hiss when it made it’s presence known. The grimpig let out a snort when it spotted the human and its tamed pokemon. It wasn’t interested and didn’t care, ignoring them completely and kept on its merry way.

Maverick huffed, motioning with a nod for Nisha to follow him. The pair continued their search in hopes to find something good before heading home for the day.

Maverick listen to his words thoughtfully. Nodding when needed too and giving the man his full attention until it was his turn to speak. A devilish smirk spread across his lips and brow rose when the man offered a battle to settled the score. If all it took was to beat him, Maverick had the title for sure. There was no doubt in his mind. The thought made his heart race, knowing that what he desired was so close. But… what was the fun in that? Yes, he could beat him in a battle here and now and get what he wanted.

When Kim reached for his ball, Azula made her presence known. A low snarl ripped through the shadows, soon echoed by other sounds of protest to Kim’s actions. Maverick raise his hand, making the noises grow silent. In truth, the scarred man didn’t know if he could beat that man. He would like to think he could but it was true, they knew little about each other. The man let out a hard sigh, knowing what he was about to say and do would annoy him the rest of his life.

“I have to admit, that is very tempting.” He began, a sense of regret in his tone before his conference returned. “But if you say that I must earn the respect and prowess to become a Elite Four, wining a battle against you here and now will not be enough for me to accept it.” His gaze hardened, expression shifted in nothing once more. “I would rather earn it fair and square. Actually work for it then be given it. Although I’m sure I might regret this decision later, it goes against what I believe in.” He let out a heavy sigh, clearing he wasn’t happy with the decision but accepted it. “I hope you understand.”

The sound of a feminine voice calling out forced Maverick’s gaze shift from his antsy creature to a short haired woman. She darted up to him with an sweet apologetic smile. In an attempt not to be rude, the man gave her a small smile and nodded his head yes. “Yeah, I’m him. You must be Chloe then.” The scarred trainer turned to face her and extended his hand out for a quick handshake. “It’s nice to meet you.”

With the greetings out of the way, his partner appeared to be ready to get going. But when questioned about his knowledge about horse back riding, the man gave a casually shrug and a half smile. “Nope,” he replied confidently, knowing that he had no idea what he was really doing, “ but it can’t be too different from riding an arcanine or a salamence, right?”

Without wasting a moment, the man grabbed the reins and mounted on the back of his shiny rapidash. Of course, he took him a few attempts without the aid of a saddle but adjusted himself conformable on the bare back of his beast. Shelby neighed loudly and stomped her front hooves into the dirty, bobbing her head as her trainer pulled on her harness. She was beyond ready to run. Mav turned to the woman with a nod. “I’m ready.”

Her reasoning for cleaning up other people trash was strange way to think of it to him. But over all, make sense in some weird way. He didn’t make a face or made a comment. His shoulders rose and fell in a shrug, accepting her return explanation on her enjoyment. Instead, the scarred man found another pieces of garage that washed up on the shore. He stabbed it with his pike and maneuvered himself to shove the trash in the bag attached to his beloved canine’s side. The half full bag was already started to released a stench when he opened it. His gut tightened to bare it before turning away to listen to his company.

“Oh I see.” Everyone has their own goal in life. Not everyone has one completely figured out. “Well… I guess this is a good place to start, huh?”

Their conversation was cut short when a something rather large washed up the shore several feet to their left. It was hard to tell from this distance, but every once in a while it moved about as if something was in the tanged mess. Maverick was the first to spot it, motioning with a nod towards it before looking at her. “I think there is something stuck in that fishing net over there. It appears to be still alive.” Shoving the article of ripped of clothing in his tag, he made his way up the beach towards the mysterious mass. "Let's check it out."
