With one ball left and time running out, the burnt scarred man and his beloved hell hound continued their search for the remaining pokemon the trainer seek. But after hours of wondering the wilderness of the safari zone, their luck came short. Sort of. The pair came to a large body of water. The surface still and reflective almost like a mirror until something broke the waters surface. A crown and pair of eyes stared at the two as if it was debating on whether or not they were a prey or predator. Azula gave it its answers as she let the ever so light growl and it vanished back into the water.

Maverick turned to give the canine a look. She snorted. The trainer rolled his eyes before he turned to look for the remaining creature he wanted. Luckily, he wasn’t interested in a shellos though they do make half decent pokemon. Either way, the search continued for that last pokemon he wanted from here. After he caught it, he would head out and continuing doing what he needed to do.

One would think that after retiring from being a gym leader, one would take some time to themselves and take a break from work. However, Maverick wasn’t that type of person. In fact, he had more important things to do than lazy around or go on vacation. For him, he had not time for such things and found that it would only be a waste of time. With that being said, the trainer was back at it with doing odd jobs for the league and the community. This job was one he wasn’t too excited about. He never really had the patience for baby pokemon but it had decent pay attached to it. Money was what he needed.

Warm gaze shifted to the quite house that lingered in the distance, confirming the address that was listed that needed some assistance with babysitting some pokemon. A sigh escaped him, closing out of the wanted ad on his phone before shoving the device into his pockets. The ad said they only needed two people to babysit a few pokemon for a few hours while they went out to do some errands. It even state they would bring some of their own pokemon to socialize with theirs. But, there were some missing details int he ad. How many baby pokemon and for how long? If they needed two people to babysit, it must be a lot.

Something touched his pant leg that made him look down. Arya, the houndour with the floppy ears, let out a whine. Her paw extended out to paw at his pant leg. The burnt scarred male gave her a half smile, bending over to pat the puppy on the head. Her stubby tail wagged with excitement at the affection but soon stopped when her trainer stood up and ignored her again. She pointed, sitting close to him to the point were she was touch him. Mav shifted his weight while letting out a sigh. His gaze shifted back to the building, waiting for his partner to show up so they can go to the building together.

Just as the ball chimed in the successful capture, something appeared before them in the matter of seconds. Warm orbs focused on a oddly black colored rock. It hovered before him, off white eyes flickered over him. It was as if the creature was curious about him. But before Maverick could speak, the floating rock circled him before it moved to Azula. The hellhound let out a low growl, ebony lips peeled back only slight to show the creature she wasn’t to be messed with. The minor only titled its body to one side at her, moving closer to her muzzle as if it wanted a closer look. This made Azula step back, a more menacing snarl ripped through her throat as she took a few steps back from this pokemon. This only appeared to make the rock more curious, getting closer to the canine.

Knowing that Azula would snap any minute, the scarred male plucked another empty safari ball from his pocket and tossed it at the black rock. It hit, pulling the creature in before locking in place. The canine let out a snort of discomfort, ruby eyes glared at the ball that had the creature. Maverick let out a light chuckle, plucking the ball off the ground. “I think it liked you.” The hell hound let out another snort of retort, turning away from the man with her head high in the air. The action only made him laugh more before turning to see what else they could capture. After all, they only had one ball left.

It didn’t take long for them to stumble across a pokemon. Warm crimson colored orbs narrowed at the oddly colored creature. His arm extended out to force his canine to stop, a low growl rumbled in her chest as she stared at the wild creature before them. The human eyed that little azurill as it bounced up to them with water filled eyes. It sniffled, a water droplet slide down the side of its face. Maverick knelt down it its level, face twisted into confusion as he offered his hand out to the creature. The wild pokemon sniffled again, water logs eyes fell upon the humans hand before pressing its body into his hand.

“Are you lost?” The man questioned, scooping the creature up with his other hand and standing, “Are you hurt?” The oddly colored pokemon only let out another round of sops in response. This made the man let out a sigh, reaching into his pockets for en empty pokemon. “Well… The only way I can help is to catch you.” The baby pokemon passed its waterworks, body leaned to the side in a titled head expression. He casted a glance to Azula who only let out a slow growl. The trainer had no use for this pokemon. However, maybe someone else would give it a good home. After all, its shiny.

With a half smile, the man lifted the ball and gingerly tapped the button on its head. The capsule opened, a beam of light sucked the creature in before it sealed shut. Warm gaze fell upon the ball, waiting it wiggle in his hands. Maverick wasn’t expecting to capture one of these today. But honestly, the more he let his mind wonder the more he really didn’t feel like catching a pokemon today. He just wasn’t in the mood. Once the capture was complete, he would head home.

It has been almost a month sense the man took the leap of faith and resigned from being the Rustboro City Gym Leader. And to be honest, he did miss it. It was his life long dream to be a dark type gym leader. He wanted to be known throughout the world as the THE best dark type gym. And yet, he had giving up the spot twice in his lifetime. Part of him was depressed. He achieved his dream and gave it away shortly after. For what? A chance to be an elite four. A chance.

Maverick let out a loud audible sigh. Warm gaze shifted over route he use to help protect. In some ways, he was glad to be out of the position. He wasn’t good with the press. While other times, he missed it dearly. A soft whine got his attention away from his own personal issues and back to earth were he belonged. The trainer turned his head to see his faithful canine by his side. A hint of a smile tugged the edges of his lips, but soon gave way to a frown once more. “Sorry girl,” he mumbled, turning away from her gaze and focused on the worn out path away, “I’m just a little out of it today.” The canine let out a snort, trotting next to her human as they ventured to find something to possibly catch today.

In the distance, the man could spot another creature moving about. Upon squinting, it noticed it was another creature he desired. His gaze shifted back to the capture when the click of success chimed. Snatching the ball off the ground and shoving it in his pack, Maverick was quick to dart towards the next pokemon to capture. Warm colored orbs flickered over the shiny creature, keeping low so he wouldn’t startle it. He kept his breath even, hoping that these creatures where worth the money.

Reaching into his pocket, the trainer plucked out another empty safari ball. He would have to be quick. Taking in a deep breath, the man stood and draw his arm back. The creature spotted him, eyes wide as the human suddenly appeared. Maverick launched the ball at the creature as swiftly as he could. The ball hit the creatures hindquarters, sucking it in within seconds before falling to the earth with a light thud. Mav smirked, moving closer to war for the confirm capture. Azula lifted her nose to the air, sampling for the next prey.
