Once again the newbie ranger was up with the sun, always early to a mission to ensure there was plenty of time for preparation before hand. He had been called to Lilycove City for a bunch of researchers in order to protect some pokemon. Something Razz was always up for as he listened to the fisherman who was showing him how to use the boat. Apparently some of the scientist studying the Corsola needed a few more tools so were letting him and another ranger named 'Lance Vollans' take a boat to deliver them along with protecting the Corsola from predators. [break][break]

For now as he waited in the hot morning sun, thank Arceus for the cool ocean winds, Razz listened to the stores of the so called 'MIDSUMMER MADNESS' that was the Corsola Migration and how it brought them great bunch of fish pokemon. Salem sat beside him seeming excited for the boat ride before they both notice another come to the boat. [break][break]

"Ah! Ya must be the other guy!" the cheery Fisherman welcome patting the other man on the shoulder before leaving off the boat with a wave and removing the rope the tied the small boat to the dock to allow it to take off. Razz confused for the moment as the Fisherman didn't even bother to confirm this was the other ranger and just let him on. [break][break]

"Ummm hi.. Uhh I'm Razz Kingsman," he gave the other man a nod still not one for handshakes, "and you're...?" he trailed off for the name wanting to be sure this was the person before he'd attempt to move the boat.

[attr="class","lance i"]it's a super short travel from his house to the docks in lilycove because he lives right next to it. it allows him the privilege of waking up twenty minutes before the agreed upon time. lance, the other guy, arrives on time but is pleasantly surprised to see the other ranger there early.

"lance vollans," he introduces, nods, and smiles. "you must be the ranger in training. you clear on what we're doing today?"

Good this was the right guy, Razz didn't need to worry as he set up the boat and begun to drive to the designated place. No surprise he was feeling nervous especially now with another Ranger who out ranked him. Mission mode, is what he tried to tell himself as he took a deep breath and nodded, "Ah uuh yes," was an answer to both questions it seemed, great way with words. Mission mode, was what he repeated before he tried again as they approached the school of Corsola. [break][break]

"We are suppose to escort the Corsola to route 109 where the fisherman told me the researchers are waiting for study," he spoke now a bit more confidently, though he still looked at the older man to ensure he didn't miss anything.

[attr="class","lance i"]is it pressure the other ranger is feeling? lance isn't too sure, but he gives razz a quick pat on his back anyway. "take it easy, kingsman. it'll be an easy mission." or at least that's what he's hoping for. he smiles, looking to reassure the other.

settling down on a seat near the side of the boat, lance leans over to peer into the waters. "where you from, kingsman?" he asks, looking to make small talk to pass the time.

Again he tenses, this time from the pat on the back. Eventually he was going to have to get used to more friendly gestures. Still it all felt very foreign but with his Meowstic along for the ride he felt he could do this. "Ah right sorry, last I was on a mission I ended up bit by an Ekans so nerves are up," he semi lied giving a light chuckle. While being bit was true that wasn't why his nerves were up, but he tried offering a smile none the less. [break][break]

"Kalos," he responded with practiced ease before he looked over to the other, "Are you from here?" [break][break]

It wasn't long before the Corsla were finally in view, "There!" he pointed out but he made sure to keep some distance away. "Do you want take the wheel?" he pointed to the ride side of his face he kept covered "Half blind, I don't want to misjudge how close we are and hit some," honestly only reason he was okay driving to their location was because in open seas there wasn't really anything to hit.

[attr="class","lance i"]fond memories return of when he was young and still a ranger in training. it helped him to have a more senior figure there to guide him, so he wants to do the same for razz should he want the help. "that sounds like a story to tell." bit by an ekans? it certainly has him interested.

"sinnoh," he responded with the same ease. "looks like we're both guests here, huh?"

nodding, lance takes control of the boat and keeps it steady as they slowly approach the corsola. "how do they look?"

"Its not much of a story, problem snakes in the desert and I got bit being careless, feels like a rookie move honestly," he shrugged but he supposed he was a newbie for a reason. Though even if he was new to the Rangers working with pokemon wasn't something new. "I guess? But new home is here," was his simple answer about being guest to the region. Razz didn't always do well with small talk, but he was trying.

He moved from the drivers position to allow the other take control as he moved to the side of the boat where Salem was scanning the water watching the pretty pink pokemon. Everything seemed fine so far, at least until a small group of Corsola jumped from the water in panic, "Possible problem," he called out to the other as he threw Iris out of her pokeball to have her dive in to see what could be attacking the group they were following.

"i'm sure most would still be impressed if you took out the careless part. got bit by a snake on the job sounds pretty cool." the topic about them being guests in this region passes. hoenn still doesn't feel like his home, but he supposes it takes a little time to adjust.

"huntail?"

surprisingly accurate, lance peers over to see a few huntail slithering their way towards the school of corsola. one lashes out with an ICE FANG but he is quick to call his mantyke out. the sudden WIDE GUARD stops the advance.

"i need your help with the others."

"How does getting bit on the job sound cool?" Razz is genuinely perplexed by this when he looked at the other with confusion. He understood basic interaction, but that truly confused him as upbringing very much conditioned him that failings were something to be frowned on. [break][break]

Though that conversation would have to change for another time it seemed as there was a problem: Huntail. "Got you sir," he replied whistling three short burst to signal to his Shellder. Using ICICLE SPEAR Iris used it to knock two of the small group out of the sea where Salem kicked in with DISARMING VOICE to actually knock them out. Two down, but a few more to go.

[attr="class","lance i"]despite having a response ready, the conversation is left for another time, as they have more pressing matters to attend to.

the three sharp whistles that ring through the air catches him by surprise. he turns to the young ranger with a smile, enthused by how razz commands his pokemon. "that, is cool. not everyone does it." orders that are signals instead of words. in fact, razz is the only other person in hoenn he has met so far that does it. it throws him for a little loop.

lance does something similar. two clicks sound from his mouth, and leija conjures up a forceful HYDRO PUMP that forces a few huntail away.

"where'd you learn to do that?" he asks razz, referring to the whistling.

Razz couldn't help but feel a bit flustered at the man's compliment. While he knew not many trainers did it, for him it was normalize so nothing too special, but he was thankful for the compliment none the less. Though this was definitely the first time he's seen someone else do it as well since he's been to Hoenn. Once again he did the three whistles like before for Iris to execute the same plan. The clam pokemon once again using the ICICLE SPEAR in order to last of the Huntail out of the water, though this time for fun Salem decided to use PSYCHIC rather than the same to changes things up, but it ended with the same result of sending the last Huntail flying and away from the school. [break][break]

"My mother, ruthless trainer really," based off his tone it wasn't much of a compliment, but Razz would admit to her results "She always told me the enemy can't counter as well if they didn't know what was coming, so she very much drilled in that was the first thing I should be teaching them, you?"

[attr="class","lance i"]"i met this trainer when i was younger that did it. he beat my ass in a battle because i couldn't counter him. i've been doing it ever since." though their origins are different, the thought process and reasoning that went into their methods are similar. he smiles at the young ranger. "i might end up stealing your whistling. there's only so many clicking variations i can do."

click! a sharper one this time. leija swirls around the school of corsola in a protective manner, summoning a WATER PULSE that further pushes the huntail away, making it flop around like a wingull in water. despite her size, the mantyke sure is a fighter.

Part of him couldn't help but hate that his mother was right with these, but at the same time it was hard to argue results as it seemed the trainer had the same thing in mind his mother did. "Be my guest, another thing you can try are numbers. Teach them combos assign it to a name or number," he suggested he knows he used to do it with his old team, but he hasn't had enough time with his newer pokemon to teach them about it just yet. [break][break]

"Salem," he called his Meowstic to get his attention lifting his hand up to which he nodded the blue cat's eyes glowing blue as he used PSYCHIC to lifted several of the Huntail before he did a long whistle signaling Iris to use ICE BEAM on them freezing them before Salem dropped them back in the water knowing eventually they would defrost, hopefully after they were done protecting the Corsola. [break][break]

"How much further do you think we are?" he questioned now that the other was driving.

[attr="class","lance i"]surprisingly, lance has tried using numbers before. "numbers are easier for your opponents to catch on. but they're still good." it still amazes him how there are so many methods of training out there. little tricks and variations that make them different. unique. it brings a smile to his face.

"maybe fifteen minutes?" he takes a guess, unsure exactly how far out they are. he peers back at the young ranger and how his pokemon seem to be handling the situation well. "you're doing a good job. keep it up." looks like things are clear for now.

"Oh right most trainers see their opponents more than once," Razz finds himself commenting sort of forgetting the so called 'normal' trainer experience as he's never done it himself. So for him people he battled when he tested numbers didn't learn too much. That's personal experience though, and in addition to that the man was older than him so he's had more time to try than him. Something to consider for another time. [break][break]

Razz continued to watch as the other Ranger's pokemon swim around as a barrier of sorts while Iris did her best to keep between them and their hunters. Thankfully it seems the closer they were getting the less they were following them. "Ahh thanks but they're the ones doing all the work, and now you're driving as I'd be no good with it," he pushes the compliment a bit with a chuckle but was happy to see nothing happen. "How long have you been doing this job?" he can't help but ask curious to see how long it may be for himself to become as positive as this guy.
