That's the most effective way of testing but it requires her to play the part. Fernando had full confidence in his ability to irk her but now he stands corrected.

She forces her shoulders to relax but her hands remain clenched at her sides. His attempts to get under her skin and start her fire aren't working - she's grown from the hot-headed teenager he expects from her. It seems even that disappoints him.[break][break]

There's several other options they can explore but none of them guarantee any success. In any other scenario, they could take their time, experiment with what sets her off and how to flex it as a muscle. But Fernando has to account for the bigger picture. Stormy's power compliments the training regiment he has set for Laurence Anderson. They need her fire to keep his ice at bay. The sooner they can rely on another avatar the stronger they become.

It's only natural he starts with the one he trusts, a secret her refuses to admit despite his actions.

Stormy blinks, a twinge of surprise evident in the wide-eyed gaze she delivers. It lasts only a moment as she reburies it - but she was relieved to hear something positive. [break][break]

And when he asks his next question, her answer is breathless and brief. Her gaze meets his with ferocity, determination. The deep red of her eyes ignites with anticipation and fire.[break][break]

She shifts her stance and gestures to Fernando and the bird, encouraging him to continue his method from earlier. She could do this - she just needed to focus.

Fernando repeats her words with a grim smile etched onto his face. At least she's daring enough to trust him. He doesn't even trust himself with the next leg of their training. From here on out, they explore uncharted territory. The only aspect he has control over is his Pokemon, releasing several more water types in the event that Stormy goes out of control. His timing has to be precise if he's going to escape the possible backlash of her flames.

"Breath in slowly. Let it sit within your lungs and then exhale." Fernando clambers down from his spot until he's right next to her. His own eyes are muddled with a deep purple sheen as they glaze over with a foggy translucence. With little warning, he cups Stormy's chin within his hand, pulling her forward to meet, mouth-to-mouth. It's not so much a kiss then breathing into her, allowing Tapu Fini's fog to seep into her. Fernando's careful to make sure it stays between them, lest he set his own Pokemon in a crazed frenzy.

He's only witnessed this particular power twice before but the gist of it remains clear. Beyond the MISTY TERRAIN that he can call upon demand is a haze that contrasts with the soothing aura of his fairy powers. This gloom is heavier, like swampy dew, driving anyone caught within it into a frantic rage. It makes them careless in the pursuit of their natural instincts, allowing emotions to override logic and reason.

He's set Stormy up to unleash her innermost turmoil. The moment their lips part, Fernando backs away, all too familiar with the price of underestimating Moltres' wrath.

Dread for what's to come seeps into her bones long before he approaches. The man releases several additional water-type Pokemon and she can feel their eyes linger on her, waiting. They are set to destroy her, she knows, and that realization slows the rapid beating of her heart.[break][break]

Stormy moves to step away, uncertain, but she is instead caught off guard by Fernando's instruction. [break][break]

"Wha--"[break][break]

Fingers curl around her chin and she is pulled in. Warmth fills her cheeks as their lips meet. She only sees the danger she's in for a fleeting moment as her panic-stricken eyes meet his and witness the cloudy purple sheen. He breathes life into her, or perhaps he takes it away.[break][break]

Her fight leaves her for a moment as she lingers in between distress. Her body no longer feels her own as Fernando's madness fills the anxious pit in her stomach. It is replaced with rage - and it is not her own, not entirely.[break][break]

Moltres clings desperately to the woman's heightened emotions, clawing its way to the surface to keep its avatar alert. It is fruitless because she is collapsing. [break][break]

Fernando parts from her and she remains stiff, uncomfortable, the borrowed power - the burden - turning over a new sensation in the pit of her being. The same purple haze seen in Fernando's eyes has appeared in her own, darkening her red ferocity into a molten, poisonous cloud of rage.[break][break]

And Moltres beats its wings desperately in her chest, fighting for control.[break][break]

"Fernando..?"[break][break]

Her words feel hollow as she speaks them, fear evident even despite the gentle way she speaks. She steps forward, her body heavy - and she can see now that her hands are on fire. Except they aren't, and she is swept away into the recesses of her mind, back home, back to Kanto.[break][break]

And it is her hands that are setting the building to flame. The deeper her false memory, her hallucination goes the more intense the heat she gives off. She's glowing, the radius strengthening and weakening as she self-destructs into her own worst nightmare. [break][break]

"No-- no, please."[break][break]

Tears fall but they turn to steam before they fall off her cheeks. The woman turns, eyes locking on the Pokemon that surround her. Moltres' confusion and rage instills in her a fight or flight reaction: and she's choosing fight. Flames lick from the length of her fingertips, crawling up her arm and past her elbows. Only once it engulfs her does the action begin. She throws her head back and explodes outward, flames licking the ground in a wide arc. Her face is contorted - it looks like she may be in pain.

It's more potent then he imagined. Not her powers. His own. He had expected some backlash but not to this degree.

"Bronwen."

No one needs a command to handle the threat. Flames encroaches too far and a RAIN DANCE is called upon to enforce their boundaries. When that fails, the ground is SOAKED as a secondary measure.

"Bronwen!"

Fernando has no clue what he's talking about. It's all conjecture from his own experiences. On the off chance he's wrong, this is pointless. But considering their options, this is the best bet they have.

"Focus on the fire. Remember the feeling. Treat it like a muscle. You're cramping."

The heat only adds to the discomfort of the situation. Fernando is left helpless, still stepping back as his Pokemon look to keep Stormy at bay without actually attacking her. They're willing to risk a few blisters if it means pushing her into the right path. They've worked this hard into forcing her to ignite.

"You can't control it but you can ease into it. Breath in and breath out. Let it happen naturally."

He'll let her burn out.

Steam rises from her skin as the RAIN DANCE attempts to soak her. It doesn't, it barely tempers the flame, it only manages to stave off her reach. She remains engulfed in flames that hiss and spit as the water attempts to choke her down. The ground she walks on is scorched and blackened - but it seems that, for the most part, her clothing remains unharmed.[break][break]

Her attention seems to be on the Pokemon that surround her. She recoils as something SOAKS the ground in front of her. But it is Fernando's voice calling out her name that stops her before she could begin harming his Pokemon. Her hand falters mid-burst, the flames hesitating before they leave her skin.[break][break]

She exhales, glancing over her shoulder to see him. Stormy's eyes remain clouded with the effects of his influence, struggling to distinguish friend from foe. With ever reiteration of her name, however, she manages to hold onto her rage and confusion. His directions are muddled and murky, but she slowly attempts to concentrate on her breathing. [break][break]

Focus on the fire. Remember the feeling. Treat it like a muscle. You're cramping.[break][break]

Stormy's breathing is rapid and she squeezes her eyes shut to try and block out the nightmare and the memory of her home being set aflame. It felt so real, and all she could see was Fernando at the helm of it. She wasn't even sure anymore if this was a memory or a fabrication of her own mind. Had Silph Co. even burned? [break][break]

Her hands rise to either side of her head and she sobs, struggling to grasp at this terrifying power she held.[break][break]

"I'm scared."[break][break]

The fire grows hotter before it begins to die down. Moltres' rage continues to burn in her belly but she does her best to not let it consume her. She is not angry, not anymore, not the same way Moltres is. She knows, she prays, that Fernando isn't here to hurt her - that this is a misunderstanding - Moltres is scared and so is she.[break][break]

She grinds her teeth together painfully, fingers digging into her scalp, but she forces herself to breathe in and out as instructed, forces herself to block out the dread, the fear, the madness that lurks at the edges of her mind. She's holding on tight to Fernando's voice.[break][break]

"Bring me back, bring me back, please."

She's not. He hadn't accounted for possible mental trauma. All he expected was her to be unable to control the extent and duration of her powers. Her sobs and pleas were an oversight and a stark reminder that this is one of the many fields Fernando knows nothing about.

Thankfully, he has three new geniua pigs for experimentation.

"I'm here for you!"

For now, his Pokemon have no troubles keeping her inferno at bay. Her raw intensity is something to behold but proper precautions keep them safe.

"llewelyn!"

Eyes narrow.

"Keep your mind clear. If you can't, focus on something you know. Something that brings you comfort."

The deeper she goes, the more desperately she reaches for familiarity, for comfort. And right now, Fernando provides that.[break][break]

His Pokemon continue to encroach on her, showering her with water. They work hard to combat her inferno and, now that she is calming, it seems they are making ground. Her hair is drenched, the flames from her fingertips are weaker. [break][break]

She peels her hands away from her face to watch the fuzzy, angry mirage of Fernando's shape take form into something more tangible, more recognizable. Her breath comes out in exhausted pants, her shoulders heaving with the effort to breathe steadily, to calm the storm.[break][break]

"Fern.."[break][break]

The woman takes a small step forward, and the closer she gets the more he comes into focus, the more tangible her thoughts become. He is something she knows and she is straining to keep her mind focused on him - only him. Not the wings that extend from her shoulder-blades, not the way the rain pelts at her exposed skin until she is raw.[break][break]

She holds out her hand, begging.

[attr="class","spiral"]Compassion can be a powerful tool. However, reliance can become someone's undoing. Fernando will offer his assistance, up to a point, but mercy is below his pay class.

When Stormy reaches out for his hand, for something to anchor herself onto, she finds nothing but the water petering out. Like with Laurence Anderson, Fernando will not put his own well-being on the line in order to stabilize their own. Her heat and instability is still too much of a risk factor for him to chance physical contact. Instead, he graces her with a smile. This time there's no secondary meaning behind it.

"You got this. I believe in you."

And, despite how disgusting the words sound coming out of his mouth, he actually does. Now all he needs is for her to maintain it.

"Do you feel it?"

Water is the only thing that meets her hand. Despite her desperation for human touch, for something physically grounding, she is only met with the cold. Even still, her attention does not sway from him and she feels relief bubble to the surface when he smiles at her. [break][break]

His words mean more to her than any physical connection because they are words she had been searching for for a long, long time. She exhales, retracting her hand slowly. This time, the fire seems to be pulled back, under her control. She's stopped trying so hard to pull it back in that it's coming back to her naturally. Without her fear, it stops becoming overwhelming.[break][break]

"I feel it."[break][break]

The wings at her back unfurl and she can feel muscles in her back shifting - muscles she has never used. But the fire is an extension of her and she is now chancing to marvel at it, to accept it instead of fear it. Slowly but surely, she's reigning it in, she's allowing it to pluck at unused muscles and become familiar. [break][break]

Stormy glances back at him, her expression calmer.

Well, that went better than expected. Fernando keeps his thoughts to himself, mentally making a note of how potent his own powers are in regards to drawing out Stormy’s frustration. Content with their progress, he orders his Pokemon to back down, and the rain starts to subside. Rain water clings to her skin and hair and she remains soaked even despite the flames at her back. They move slowly, straining muscles in her shoulders that she's never used. The effort encourages her to pant with exhertion and, eventually, the wings fizzle out and die. She's officially run out of steam and the smoke from her fires evaporates with the wind and rain.[break][break]

She can feel that it's only drizzling now and she turns back to face Fernando as drops of water slide down her face. It's unclear whether they're tears or the damp from her dark hair.[break][break]

"I-I think I may be able to fly."[break][break]

Not today, however. Her skin is too pale and exhaustion weighs her down. Stormy takes a few cautious steps toward Fernando, glancing down at what might remain of her intense heat. She just feels cold, now, and it spurs her to find him faster. Whether he accepts or not, her intention is to embrace him. If he accepts, he'll be accepting a water-logged, shaking woman who is absolutely not too hot to touch anymore.[break][break]

It becomes increasingly obvious that this is the extent of her powers. Watching her flames die grant her a respite that not even Fernando can deny. Although he lacks the same heart and sympathy as other trainers, he’s also keen enough to know that pushing her farther will only stunt her growth.

Begrudgingly, he accepts her hug. Loose arms tighten into a vice as her dampness becomes his own. His exposure to the drizzle pales in comparison to her own wetness, staining his clothes as skin presses against fabric. The cold seeps in quickly but the warmth of another body, no matter how small, is a welcome one.

“Good job.”

His praise is empty but he says it because he knows she needs it.
