Here he was again. An opportunity has arrived once again to became a gym leader. And honestly, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to be a gym leader again. It wasn’t that he didn’t like being one. It was more just… he had already done that. Kind of. He was a gym leader for like two months before the disaster struck and forced him to move. And in his rein as a gym leader, he never had even one challenger. In a way, this could be his redemption. Prove to himself he was indeed capable of being one. But at the same time, why be a gym leader? He could go for elite four or even champion. Decisions. Decisions. What ever way to think then to go out an pokemon hunting?

And once again, Maverick found himself wondering the outskirts in search of dark types. Warm colored orbs flickered to his beloved six foot seven houndoom that stood proudly next to him. “What do you think girl?” The man mumbled as the canine lifted her nose into the breeze, nostrils flared, “Have an leads?” The canine took in the scents around her before letting her nose fall the earth, finding something and leading the way. What kind of trouble will they get into today?

Tendons writhed in agony as ligaments strained under duress. Wrists ached and groaned despite the numbness stretching across both hands. Gritted teeth ground together as the pain continued to ravage and raid. It was moments like this that caused Gigi to resent her damaged body that ravenously attacked the joints in her hands.

Fingers curled into weak fists that were quickly overtaken by visible tremors. Dark eyes narrowed to the wrist brace fastened on each hand. The band plagued her with an itch that she could never seem to scratch, albeit that feeling was most likely a manifestation of her disdain. During an intense session of gaming, the brace had been forgotten and the consequences were quick to punish. She only put on the supportive wraps after she was done and, by then, the damage was done.

Gigi released her shaking fists with a loud sigh. Eyes furrowed as she glared at the hands that betrayed her. Once upon a time, her hands carried her to glory, success, and fame. But now? Now they were practically shriveled up and useless. It was fitting that the vital instrument in her rise had a pivotal role in her downfall.

She sought fresh air to escape from the reminders of her past and the inner voice that chastised her. Unfortunately, escape was not that easy. A despondent expression replaced her usual vibrant facial features. Surely she would have roamed the outskirts of Slateport for hours if not for a familiar voice breaking her from her darkened mind.
[break][break]Upon spotting to source of the voice her assumptions were proven correct. It's a small world after all. The urge to turn around, tail between her legs, and flee was persistent but she batted it away. She needed this distraction.

"Ey, Maverick!" Her chipper demeanor replaced any signs of her inner struggle. "Small world, ain't it?" It was a rhetorical question that was quickly pushed away by the fast talking woman, "What'cha up to? Anything interesting?" She took note of his wicked looking Houndoom. Damn did the dark-fire type look cool, cool and deadly, something she feverishly approved of.
[break][break]"Encountered any more annoying Weezings that need to quit smoking?" The last question was a joke but there was still an earnest question hidden within it. Rumors of a brewing war were whispered in hushed, worried voices on the streets. It was hard to ignore and gossip that she couldn't immediately shoot down as simply, well, gossip. Nefarious, poisonous deeds were becoming more frequent with each passing day.

It didn’t take long for Azula to find a scent to follow. Nostrils flared with the intake and exhale of air the swirled within her sensitive nose. Her renowned mark for tracking always helped him find something good. But before she could fully track down a scent to follow, a familiar bright feminine voice rang out against the outskirts normal noise. Warm gaze flickered up to see the familiar face of Gigi. Her excitement and quick taking could not be mistaken as she came up to him in greetings. “Hello Gigi,” the man replied back, the edges of his lips curled up in a faint smile, “It seems we have crossed paths once more.” The massive six foot seven houndoom darted off in a direction while they spoke.

“Just looking for pokemon to capture,” he explained to her as his gaze flickered to see Azula already ambushing creatures in the distance, “And no, nothing really interesting yet. Haven’t seen any weezing here.” It was after he made the statement that a howl rang out into the air. The man chuckled. “Azula found something though.” The man motioned behind her to see Azula cornering two pokemon. One an alolan rattata and the other, Ivysaur. She snapped at them, snarling all the while. The rattata was swift to get away, running straight for them. The Ivysaur however, wasn’t so lucky.

Azula made quick work of the poor poison and grass type as she send a stream of flames at hits face. The wild pokemon tried to escape her attacks, using razor leaf at her. But the houndoom was well versed in the art of battling, easily dodging the creatures attack and sent another waves of flames at it. And soon, the creature was out cold. Reaching into his pocket, the man tossed the ball as it hit its mark and sucked it in. Azula hovered over the ball, waiting for the confirm capture to bring the ball back. His gaze looked to Gigi wondering if she had got the rattata.

Unlike Gigi, the man was so formal and stiff. Honestly, it was amazing that the polar opposites managed to find some harmony rather than repel each other. "So it would seem." she mused, playful tone mocking his particular word choices. "I didn't realize Hoenn was that small." With a hand on her hip, Gigi pretended to give Maverick a thorough examination. "Hmm.." she hummed, "Well, there could be worse company." The cheeky grin plastered to her face helped convey the message as a lighthearted tease.

Disappointment caused pursed lips to form a pout. Still, she had to give kudos where they were due, "You are definitely a dedicated man." Gigi viewed Pokemon as a sort of side quest from her main storyline. She loved being in their company (they were much more loyal than humans) but she failed to grasp the concept of training to be the best like no one ever was. Then again she was abnormal in that line of thinking. When she was younger, many of her friends wanted to become top tier trainers, taking on the gym challenges and all the jazz. Meanwhile, Gigi stayed glued to her computer screen.

"Nice to see you again, Azula-" And the hellhound was gone before she had time to finish her sentence. The dual type was, to say the very least, skilled. A cool chill ran along her spine as she took note of the dangerous aura that surrounded the hound. For a moment, Gigi considered apologizing to Maverick for any wrongdoings on her behalf. Not that she did anything wrong but those fangs were pretty scary.

Too consumed with watching Azula expertly catch her prey, Gigi didn't notice the black rat until it had scurried up her leg and robbed the phone from her pocket. "What." She watched in a mixture of amusement and bewilderment as the Alolan Rattata attempted to carry the phone away. Good thing it had a case. Even better that, unbeknownst to the Rattata, a Rotom was in sleep mode within the machine.
[break][break]The movement jerked Captcha awake and let's just say he wasn't a happy camper. Static crackled around the phone before a discharge of electricity consumed the Rattata. Ouch. That looked like it hurt. Getting electrocuted by the thing in your mouth? Yeah, definitely didn't sound fun.

Desperately trying to appear fine, Gigi shook her tense and aching hands before digging in her pocket for an empty Pokeball. As she approached her phone, she lackadaisically tossed the capture device at the mustached rat. Sharp eyes examined the phone and she breathed a sigh of relief. Damn - the sales clerk had been right. Though pricy, the phone protector was worth it: not even the teeth of a Rattata could pierce through the protective layering.

Maverick wasn’t sure whether to take her comment about he wasn’t the worse company as a good thing or bad thing. Either way, it didn’t matter. The sight of the ivysaur distracted Maverick and Azula long enough for him to forget about it. And once the capture was a success, Maverick turned to see if the woman handled the rattata. And although it looked like she almost lost her phone, she manages to catch it. Maverick held back a chuckle as she seemed to be pretty shaken up by the ordeal. Instead, he offered a friendly check in. “Are you alright?” But, there was no time for her to respond to his question about her status.

Azula lifted her head to the air, muzzle parted as a eerie howl erupted from her. Warm gaze flickered to her as another pair of pokemon appeared from the out of no where. Why does he have better luck attracting pokemon when he had someone else to hunt with? “Can you handle the nidorina while I’ll take the venonat?” But before she could answer, the wild pokemon made that decision for them. The venonat waggled closer to Maverick and Azula. The canine’s lived peeled back to show off her pearly whites, head lowered ready to fight once again. “Slow it down with sludge bomb, than crunch.”

The houndoom didn’t hesitate as she took in a deep breath. The thick toxic substance swiftly formed within her throat and soon, glop of purple waste spatted just before them. And venonat halted its advance, stepping in the substance. It cried out as it couldn’t move. “Now,” the man barked. Azula launches herself forward, muzzle opened wide as she clamped down on the venonat. She manages to miss her own sludge body on the earth just barely as she lands on the other side with the wild pokemon still in her mouth. She bite down hard, whipping her head back and forth only to let go and send the creature flying in the air. A soft thud was heard as it landed, quickly getting to its feet and fleeing the scene.

"I-" Words were silenced by the spine chilling howl reminiscent of a ghastly wail. The hellhound had caught the scent of wild Pokemon once again. An exasperated sigh was stifled as lips were forced closed. People stated that video games caused violence. Hah, right. Scientists should debate on the correlation between Pokemon battles and violent tendencies. If an example was needed, Gigi would offer Azula as exhibit A.

Gigi did not see the point in assaulting the wildlife that were going about their daily lives. Analytical eyes scanned the situation but nothing about the Venonant's behavior warranted the fury and wrath wrecked upon its tiny, fuzzy frame. Nidorina was a different story.

The poison type was itching for a fight. Ears quivered with anticipating as she stared down Gigi, silently challenging the streamer to a battle. Porygon digitalized themselves from the flash of light summoned by the Pokeball. Ethernet retained their aloof face even as the Nidorina issued her official challenge.

Toxic spikes scattered across the battlefield but the digital Pokemon used their innate magnetism to rise further above the now hazardous terrain. The Nidorina rushed forward, fangs dripping with a poisonous substance. Luckily, the gap between the two Pokemon could not be closed before the Nidorina was shoved backwards with a super effective beam of psychic powers.

Gigi admired the moxie of the Pokemon as she hoisted herself back up, rushing to close the gap before jumping high into the air. Feet connected against solid data as Ethernet suffered the blow of two precise kicks. Without a moments respite, the Nidorina's fangs crunched into Ethernet's side. Unfortunately, this gave Ethernet the perfect opportunity to retaliate. Another psybeam consumed the stubborn Nidorina who struggled to keep her grip onto her foe.

The Nidorina struggled to stay conscious but the darkness overtook her, causing her to tumble to the ground with a light thud. "Good job, Ethernet." The virtual Pokemon simply nodded in affirmative, signaling that her words had been successfully processed. Gigi recalled the Porygon as she rummaged for another empty Pokeball in the depths of her seemingly bottomless pockets. She welcomed the competitive spirit that flowed through the Nidorina's veins so she was eager to see whether or not the capture would be successful.

"A lot of wild Pokemon today, huh?" It was a rhetorical question that quickly morphed into a statement, "At least it brings some form of entertainment to lighten this dull day." The interruptions were a blessing to the woman whose hidden insecurities had begun to encroach mind and darken her thoughts. She chuckled to herself, "Ugh, I should probably posts some videos or photos to update my feed but.. too lazy right now."

It might have been a bit much. But to Azula, it didn’t matter. A threat was a threat. Never underestimate your opponent. As soon as the soft thud of the little poison creature was audible, the hellhound’s chest puffed out in pride as she turned to stand by her trainer once again. It was clearly written all over her body language she didn’t care what others thought of her. And really, neither did Maverick. Azula was a monstrous predator, regardless what her prey was. The man chuckled lightly as Azula sense of pride that she took down a little creature, shaking his head as he turned to see if the woman taken the Nidorina.

In no time at all, Gigi had the nidorina down and tried to capture to creature with much success. The man shrugged his shoulders, hands reached back into his pockets. “It appears to be a rather active day for wild pokemon.” He offered in return, one brow rose. Videos? Upload? “Do you work for the media company or something?” Maverick wasn’t much of a social media type of guy. The only time he ever goes on the Internet is to search pokemon or get information about up coming events and such. In fact, the man didn’t even know a facebook or… what is it called… myspace. Is that still in? Either way, the man wasn’t much in media and didn’t have really any idea what Gigi was talking about.

While they spoke, a harmless bellspourt peered its head out from behind bush. But, quick disappeared at the sight of trainers and was ignored by Maverick. His gaze flickered when saw a roaserade stroll across their path ahead in the corner of his eye. Azula let out a low growl, head lowered ready to attack the grass and poison type. “Hmmm…” he hummed thoughtful, patting her shoulder blade before his hand retreated back to his pocket, “Leave it. We have no use for it.”

[attr="class,"memorybody"]“Do you work for the media company or something?” Gigi hummed to herself as she mulled over the question. "I have sponsors soo.. kinda?" Her shoulders heaved up into a large shrug. "I don't work for one in specific but that's where my income comes from, sooo.." she paused. "I guess you could say I'm involved in the media field. Y'know, being a streamer combined with social media influencer type gig, etcetera etcetera." Was her answer way more complicated than it needed to be? Absolutely. But she managed to get her point across at the end, right?

Suddenly, an elegant Pokemon appeared: strutting in their general direction. One hand (rose?) moved down to her hip as the other waggled in the air. A look of disdain crossed the Roserade's face. How dare these peasants not yield to her presence? She waited impatiently for them to give her room to cross. When they didn't, she loudly cleared her throat.

Gigi's attention switched back to Maverick. For a second, the Roserade looked confused. No one had ever ignored her presence before. Confusion morphed into anger, though, as she glared at the fashion disaster of a human blocking her path. The audacity this human had!

Petals danced around Gigi's legs, the vortex forcing her to lose her balance and faceplant to the ground. The Roserade looked pleased: the peasant was now bowing as she should. Gigi, on the other-hand, was more than unpleased. "Seriously? The fuck is your problem." The Roserade's mouth crinkled into a look of distaste in the face of the vulgarity.

Gigi went to stand but she found herself to be pinned down, the Roserade's thorny leg digging into her back. "Are you fucking serious?" Despite the awkward position, Gigi managed to grab one of her Pokeballs. It didn't seem like the Pokemon wasn't going to let Gigi up, instead preferring to force her head to rub against the ground.

"Hax," her voice was muffled by the ground, "Cut this bitch up into pieces." The Doublade emerged from its Pokeball and immediately went on the offensive. "Wait, be careful. Don't slice me open too."

Thankfully, the Doublade's aerial ace didn't touch Gigi. The Roserade wasn't so fortunate. She had been taken down in one mighty swing of the sword, the pompous grass type unused to battling. Gigi bounced back to her feet and glared at the fainted Pokemon.

She was forced to push her emotions aside as she searched for an empty Pokeball. As much as she wanted to, Gigi couldn't leave the Pokemon defenseless on the ground. Obscenities were mumbled under her breath as she threw the empty capture device at the Roserade while simultaneously returning her Doublade. "Thank you for not maiming me."

Gigi's eyes glanced back to the man, blinking in confusion as if she had forgot he was even there. "Uhh.." Her cheeks burned red as she quickly tried to steer the conversation elsewhere, "So, uh, what about you? I mean, jobwise?" She cursed herself for the uncertainty in her voice. Stupid Pokemon threw off her groove.

Maverick stifled a laugh with a cough as he watched Gigi face plant the earth from the roserades attack before sending in a pokemon for redemption. It didn’t take long for the blade pokemon to take the roserade down, Gigi capturing the creature once it was down. The man held his placid expression, his gaze on her when she spoke to him trying to act as though nothing happened. “Job?” He inquired, confused as to what she was really asking, “Like where I get my money?” It was at the moment Maverick realized that technically, he didn’t have a job either. He was a pokemon trainer and that’s it. He hummed to himself, giving real thought to his answer. How did he make money?

After a moment to himself, the man shrugged his shoulders and contend to walk through the outskirts. “Honestly, I just do odd jobs here and there for people.” It was the truth. He often times did mission or jobs for the league and in return, they pay him. And if it wasn’t him doing the jobs, his pokemon also worked as well doing odd jobs to help support their team and trainer. “The jobs don’t really pay too much but something if better than nothing, right?” His gaze flickered at the sight of movement in the corner of his eye. Azula was already on it, darting forward to chase a nuzleaf. “Other than that, I’m just a pokemon trainer like everyone else.”

His thoughts got lost for a moment, mostly just talking out loud forgetting she was there listening. “But I did see there was an open application for a gym leader for Rustboro, City” he added, gaze flickered to the open sky as he hear Azula snarls and the Nuzleaf’s screams of terror off in the distance, “I have been a gym leader once before but I’m not sure if I’m really qualified to be one again.” Maverick wasn't really sure if he wanted to be a gym leader again. The nuzleaf’s screams stopped and a howl of success rose into the air. She must of knock it out or chased it far enough away for her satisfaction. Either way, Maverick ignored her. It didn’t seem to bother the trainer or he was so lost within his own thoughts he didn’t seem to care.

It was at that moment a little fox creature appeared before them. The trainer halted in his tracks. Warm gaze stared at the creature for a moment, head titled to one side in curiosity before his gaze shifted to Gigi. “Do you want it?” he offered as Azula returned looking ever so pleaded with her adventure, “If not, I might take it. I already have one but… dark types are my passion.”

[attr="class,"memorybody"]"A Pokemon trainer like everyone else, eh?" she repeated, mentally chewing on the words. "What exactly does being a trainer entail? Is it, like, just training your Pokemon and taking on those gym challenges?" It was evident that Gigi had never thought much about Pokemon trainers and what they accomplished. Was being a trainer even sustainable? She couldn't imagine how they would get enough money. Although, if a Pokemon trainer were defined by those two things... then wasn't she basically half trainer? Ugh, she was beginning to confuse herself.

Curiosity piqued as the scarred man talked about open applications to be a gym leader. Wow. All you had to do was fill out an application? She thought the selection would be much more ruthless and taxing. "Dude, you should do it." A large, pearly smile flashed in his direction. "If you were a gym leader before then why would you think you're not qualified? I don't know what the resume for a gym leader looks like but I'd bet money that you would kill the auditions." she encouraged. "It is a great opportunity. Personally, I would jump at the opportunity to do something I loved.. Why are you so hesitant, though?"

Her fast-paced brain was easily distracted as one of the cutest little foxes she had ever seen wandered up to the two. Maverick had also noticed the adorable dark type. "Weellll," Gigi paused for a brief moment, "Since you already have one, is it okay if I caught the little one?" Also, the thought of Azura causing the small kit to scream out like that Nuzleaf cry, that she was certain would give her nightmares tonight, was not a pleasant one.

Gigi squatted down next to the Nickit, who looked more curious than afraid. "Hey there, little one." Thanks to a certain rodent who got incredibly cranky if food wasn't available, she managed to scrounge up a poketreat. The Nickit's oversized ears perked up as she noticed the treat. Practically salivating, the dark type eagerly went by the trainer's side. This was much easier than scavenging for her food.

Meanwhile, Gigi breathed a sigh of relief. Finally.. finally. There was a Pokemon today that, judging by the fox's eagerness, didn't need to be battled to catch. It wasn't that she minded battling. She was just very tired today, drained from forcing herself to swallow the pain that radiated from her wrists.
[break][break] Honestly, she needed more practice despite her assumptions that pokemon battles were similar to her online strategy games. Maybe she would realize that one day but, for today, she was more than happy to befriend the Pokemon with something as simple as treats. Gigi glanced toward Maverick, silently asking if she was allowed to catch the dark type, before she offered an empty Pokeball to the inquisitive fox. Would the dark type, coaxed by treats, join her team or decide to turn tail and run? Only time would tell.
