Around this very spot some months ago he'd nearly leveled the stretch of Cycling Road on Mauville's side of the isthmus fighting another trainer, Alec, with his Tyranitar. How time flies.

As it so happened, it seemed that budding rival of his had flown the coop after that battle, for reasons unknown. Adrian remembered them becoming a Gym Leader, and after that, nothing. Silence.

Sometimes he dialed up that old number to try and rouse an answer from them, but if they were receiving his calls, Alec was actively ignoring them.

In retrospect Adrian had proved particularly callous, towards Alec and to his own pokemon. It was small wonder they chose not to answer at all.

And so he was left to reminisce the time before.

As he's going along towards Slateport, Adrian recalls the time he encountered a wild Togekiss.

It'd happened somewhere around here, if he recalled correctly. It'd been quite the catch.

That was a little before November last year... It took him way back. He'd had a brief 'fling' with someone back then, although for the life of him, he couldn't remember their name. But their face was still fresh in his mind; Green hair, lavender eyes.

Their last meeting was in the winter...

A lot had happened since then. New Year's had been quite the fiasco, and that was an understatement. Slateport had gone to Hell in a handbasket. As Adrian reminisces, he notices the Scraggy stumbling around in the distance, struggling against its loose skin. Hahaha, wow...

It'd been a long year. A challenging year. Perhaps he was more glad for it to be over though, all things considered. Much and more had happened that couldn't be taken back, try as he might...

Take another step forward, and put another day behind him. That was all there was anymore.

As he continued along Adrian disturbed a pokemon meditating in the grass, perhaps with all his dejected thoughts hanging in the air like a bad vibe, ruining its state of nirvana lying upon the grass. His only option was to battle, it seemed.

A flash of red, and a pokemon took shape.

"Rift, use Sludge Bomb." And just like that it's splattered Meditite, adding further fuel to its fires. As it jumped high in the air, Rift watched it warily, side-stepping the plummeting pokemon as it began its descent. Sprawled on the ground, Meditite surrendered, and Adrian decided to take full advantage of its incapacitated state. Alrighty...

With an empty pokeball lobbed lightly at its fainted figure, Adrian was able to capture it before scuttling off the rest of the way to Slateport.
