days after commissioner dahlia goode gathered the league officials to discuss the imminent invasion, authorities took the initiative to double up on training cadets and rangers in preparation for war. selena has just arrived in sootopolis for the third day, having volunteered to help with the dragon-types.[break][break]

selena is no master herself. in fact, she finds it extremely difficult to train her dragons especially if she has caught them as adults. she can't imagine how it is like for those who are just beginning to understand their power.[break][break]

the lilycove gym leader stands above the platform to see the faces of those who listed up their names. venus floats above the pinkette while tiamat, bahamut, and uranus position themselves beside their trainer.[break][break]

“training dragons has no pretense. in order to understand their sheer power, we need to be able to show ours as well: that is how they will trust us.” selena hops below to face her trainees closer. “we'll train in pairs. i hope you're ready for a battle!”[break][break]

flygon ♀: levitate - dragon claw, rock slide, earthquake, screech, super sonic, dragon breath

cait and flygon shared a glace, their expressions indiscernible as they absorbed the woman's speech. the former gym leader was dressed discreetly, her green hair tied in a neat ponytail and her attire entirely casual. they had signed on last minute, curiosity driving them to participate.

"train in pairs, huh?"

both looked around, considering who could serve as their partners for this particular exercise. those whom recognized the woman gave her a wide berth, pairing up with individuals who were lesser known in comparison. cait winced at this, but understood their reasoning well enough.

"guess i'll take whoever's left over. sound like a plan, girl?"

her flygon offered a nod, though her shielded gaze continued to scan the crowd.

the last of selena's words signaled for cadets and rangers to scoot from the pinkette, a reaction she finds similar to how others approach the green-haired lady. the gym leader takes her time observing her before she realizes she is a familiar face.[break][break]

“miss... alfric?” she welcomes the woman with curiosity hinted in her tone. “i'm glad to see you here.”[break][break]

she offers a smile before she calls on tiamat to follow beside her. the haxorus leaps on selena's side, meeting the gaze of the flygon.[break][break]

it was during the league assembly that she last saw the fellow avatar. her face instantly flushes the same vibrance as her hair, recolleting her brash actions during the meeting. it is always unsettling for selena to have people whose impression of her she cannot read.[break][break]

however, she thinks this is the perfect opportunity to make acquaintance. “i guess we're training partners, then?”[break][break]

the young woman dipped her head respectively in greeting, her flygon following suit as she bent her lengthy neck in a show of respect. though her gaze remained fixed upon the pink-haired woman and her dragon-type counterpart.

"it's a pleasure," cait drawled. "miss desmarais."

her painted lips twisted upwards at the corners, the expression she wore polite and open.

"and i suppose we will. i was hoping for a few lessons. i have a number of them but my knowledge is - admittedly - limited."

she could fulfill their needs health and care-wise, but training them specifically was a learning curve she had yet to get over.

"flygon's my usual companion whenever i bring a dragon along. so i had her accompany me here. alongside with a few of the younger ones. is it alright if i bring them out to observe?"

tiamat's deliberate step forward boosts selena's confidence with her team despite rarely using her in battle. “i only know enough, too. i guess we're both teaching each other in battle.”[break][break]

the haxorus radiates with blue light as auric blades surround her, swords dance augmenting its sheer draconic power. “let's start!”[break][break]

a noibat and bagon joined their audience, the little beasts serving as the oldest and most likely to evolve among the younger dragons. they settled at her sides, shifting or muttering their excitement as they struggled to behave as they took in their surroundings. but the pair managed to remain still enough, a warning glance from flygon and the alfric causing them to settle.

"flygon," cait drawled, considering her opponent with a sweep of her gaze. "begin."

the dragon-type took her place before her mistress, utilizing her ability to levitate with a single flap of her wings. in a near immediate response to the sight of the sword dance, the beast released a screech - the sound terrible and piercing as it was cast toward the haxorus.

the enemy dragon's screech pierces through tiamat's eardrums as she struggles to keep her aim at the flygon. her rivalrous nature clicks upon her show of strength, and when throbbing pain becomes more manageable, tiamat positions her legs strategically before lifting herself up into the air. the dragon dashes through the wind with dual chop aiming towards the verdant creature.[break][break]

her flygon positions herself accordingly, prepared to accept the strike whilst dampening the blow. the haxorus's speed was moderate, likely to be usurped by a large margin by her raw strength. so the pokemon folded her wings before her, crossing them and granting herself a scaled shield. the blow struck solidly, the power behind it nearly causing her flygon to fall flat.

but the pokemon remained steady despite the damage inflicted upon her wings, her eyes narrowing upon her foe.

"super sonic."

cait had every intention of taking advantage of the pokemon's close proximity, her dragon soon releasing a pitched and bemusing call.

“shift your gaze!”[break][break]

the pinkette calls, but selena's warning is left unheeded. haxorus aggressively forces herself into the flygon's wing shield, only to be met by a wave of confusion. tiamat falls flat on the ground, trying to make sense of what has occured.[break][break]

she reverts her focus back on the flygon, trying to unleash guillotine but little does she realize she's targeting her own trainer. venus dives to block the attack, her cotton feathers vibrating as she echoes a disarming voice into the confused dragon.[break][break]

from a distance, all the other trainers have wide mouths gaping as they watch the battle commence. some even have their pokemons fixed into their battle than their own. “heh, looks like ‘supersonic’ is really a useful.” the gym leader comments, giving cait alfric a sheepish grin.[break][break]

"it's underhanded," cait remarked. "i'll admit."

she had been far from pleased when it was used against her in excess in her previous encounters, but she acknowledged its uses.

"but it can turn a fight around."

her flygon observed as her foe is subdued, cautiously standing in-between her mistress and the bemused dragon.

"thank you for the skirmish."

both she and her dragon bowed once things had settled, the former appearing satisfied by the result. the young dragons accompanying her rushed toward the flygon, crowding around her and chattering excitedly in their respective language.

'let's hope they both took something form this,' cait thought.

she'd eyed her noibat, aware that the pokemon was swiftly reaching that age where they'd evolve.

'we'll soon find out.'
