Soup grinned as the crowd cheered.

To be totally honest, he had absolutely no clue why he was here. Pokemon wrestling rings? What on earth? That couldn't be further from his job, or what one would peg his interests as.

But recently, he'd been spending more time with his Pokemon, training and growing his team alongside his archaeology, and it was paying off. His Pokemon were stronger than ever, and only growing stronger. And, well, this would be a great test of how much he'd really improved.

His grin widening as he waved back at the crowd, he pushed a button on his Pokeball and released Deimos. The Heracross eyed the crowds with indifference, not caring at all about all the attention on him. Well, that was fine. Soup scanned the ring for his opponent.

selena develops a hobby.[break][break]

people will say it's very unlady like. they will wonder why a gym leader like her graces the wrestling ring with her presence. after the war, economy has been slowly building up and all she strives for is to train and be stronger. she needs to chase battles like this. no holds barred.[break][break]

when selena releases her toxapex, she lifts up her thorned tentacles to glance the cheerful crowd. then the creature's eyes meet the heracross's. “i hope you won't go easy on us, mister.”[break][break]

the pinkette smiles as she snaps her fingers, the poison-type begins her move. it dances around the field, spinning and twirling, spreading toxic spikes in an attempt to limit the bug's movement.[break][break]

Soup raised an eyebrow at the sight of his opponent. Selena Desmairis, the gym leader? Huh. Well, he would put up a fight that he could be proud of, whether he and Deimos won or lost.

His thoughts sobered slightly, his grin fading as he contemplated the reasons she was probably here, and the reason that he himself didn't want to acknowledge. He needed to be stronger. He needed to be able to help Hoenn when it could use his presence and his strength.

He shook off the sudden melancholy. No need to brood right now. This was training, sure, but it was fun too. He could afford to enjoy himself.

He smiled again, but it felt a little forced this time. "I would never." He wouldn't dream of not giving his best. Not when the future could depend on the effort he put in today.

Deimos didn't bother trying to avoid the Toxic Spikes. The poison seeped through him, and his body reacted to it. It was painful...

...but it was invigorating.

Deimos roared in his buglike voice. Now not heeding the spikes that were strewn across the ring, he charged straight at the Toxapex, his horn lowered as he aimed to ram and fling the poison-type.

SUMMARY
- Deimos doesn't care about the Toxic Spikes, getting poisoned and activating Guts.
- Deimos charges full-force at Toxapex with Megahorn.

it may have been just herself but selena senses how her presence overwhelms her opponent, perhaps, the audience's as well. but it doesn't change the fact that a battle is what they are looking for, and a good one she can definetely bring to the crowd.[break][break]

“valentina, cover yourself!” the thorny tentacles of the toxapex covers its body (baneful bunker) as the bug lunges itself with megahorn, protecting its body while seeping more poison into its head.[break][break]

Deimos rammed into the Toxapex just as she covered herself with her tentacles, not even slowing his charge. Her spines penetrated his exoskeleton, inserting more toxins into him.

The Heracross didn't even flinch. The impact had done him harm, sure, but he would have hopefully left a mark on the Toxapex as well. And if not...

"Don't let up, Deimos!" Soup called, and the bug snarled. He raised his hand, green energy coalescing into the shapes of small seeds. From point-blank, Deimos unleashed a flurry of Bullet Seeds right at the Toxapex's body, and her face too, if she showed it.

Deimos snarled with satisfaction as the poison continued to course through him, the pain sharpening his furious thirst for battle. He loved feeling so alive.

as soon as toxapex lifts of her spiny veil of poison, she immediately sees bullet seeds from the heracross launching into her sturdy body. valentina endures the ordeal for grass-types do not harm her partially toxic built as she prepares for her retaliation.[break][break]

“use that opportunity to strike back!” selena orders valentina as it spews indiscriminate parasites into the beetle's body, a swarm of infestation taking over its body which proves more potent than a regular attack (merciless) despite the target's resistance to attacks of similar typing.[break][break]

This wasn't good. Soup had a feeling he would lose the fight, with how little damage the Toxapex sustained from Bullet Seed, even despite Guts factoring in.

But neither he nor Deimos was in the mood to give up, even as Deimos was struck by the Infestation attack, the constant damage whittling away at his health along with the poison from before.

"Flip her while you're close!" yelled Soup, and Deimos roared again. He tried to shove his horn at the water-type and toss her, wrenching his body with the unnatural strength that his species was blessed with, only amplified by the poison.

heracross is successful in toppling the lady poison over, her hard shelled body flipping with the impact of its megahorn but instead of panicking, selena flashes a smile at her opponent which is imitated by her toxapex.[break][break]

“now's the time, valentina!” the order does not need any clarification for the toxapex simply knows what to do. the poison-type relies on the hazards she set on the field and now that all her traps are laid bare, she has nothing to do but strike with all her power. as her form hovers in the air, it spews out a merciless venoshock at her target, who is trapped by the infeested arena and the toxic spikes which continue to jut out of the field.[break][break]

The Toxapex flipped over, but unfazed, it responded with a Venoshock.

Deimos didn't stand a chance, really. The Toxapex's ability, combined with the increased power of Venoshock on poisoned targets and the prior damage Deimos had already sustained, meant that the poor Heracross was nearly knocked out from the attack.

However, he didn't intend to go down without one last hurrah. Roaring, Deimos used the last dregs of his strength to launch himself at the toppled Toxapex, bringing his horn down on her in a Throat Chop before he collapsed, drained.

Whether the Throat Chop managed to do sufficient damage to Valentina or not, however, Deimos was now unable to battle onwards. Soup grabbed his Pokeball and recalled the Heracross, smiling and whispering thanks to Deimos. Victory or not, it had been a spectacular battle, and Deimos had really given his all even against such a powerful opponent.

"You and your Pokemon really are something!" said Soup to Selena, shouting to be heard over the roar of the crowd. "That was a spectacular battle!"

valentina has been generally successful in intoxicating her target, but with one last attempt to bring her down, the heracross lunges with throat chop, only for toxapex to clamp his head down with toxic spikes jutting out from the inner layer of her tentacles. when she releases deimos, the heracross is revealed to be knocked out.[break][break]

the crowd roars at the declaration of her victory but selena's only focused on what the other trainer says.[break][break]

“i believe we share the glory of that spectacle.” she smiles before stretching her hand towards the stranger. “i'll wait for your next challenge against me and my pokemon.”[break][break]
