He arrived on-time. It was least he could do.

The suit and bowtie was just surface level professionalism.

Try as he might to keep his tongue sober the fallout of war seemed to give stronger compulsions than he'd realized.

It seemed many on league payroll were taking some much needed time off and Sénon, holding onto normalcy for dear life, was just diving into work hoping more for quicksand than water.

The departure was by sea which did nothing to shake off the memories of Lilycove. The Halloween Party festivities hosted (at least in name) by his escort subject did better in that regard.

Silph was a big name back home. He didn't come from a family of 'nobodies' but if "Game" was the biggest outlet in the mall, "Silph" was mall itself. He hadn't paid attention enough as a child to learn first names but arriving in Hoenn and joining the Rangers he learned those soon enough. A pop-star, a league elite, and a mogul. Their parents must have been quite proud.

He popped two mints to hide the vice on his breath; one to suck, one to chew. "Miss Stormy Silph?" The league was adamant he escort her to her destination in Saffron before picking up the "Songbird" for the return trip.

The league either had good faith in him to assign such a double duty, or they wanted to save some money.

"Ready to set sail?"

With a huff and a groan, Stormy hauls her single suitcase onto the ship. For the sake of avoiding people and their endless questions, she had opted for the cheaper, simpler route in order to avoid eyes drilling holes in the back of her head. She already had stitches in her head keeping her awake at night, she didn't need people asking her how the war had went, what had happened, what might happen next.[break][break]

She wipes hair out of her face as she stands back up to her full height in time to meet the gaze of her escort. She offers the man a small smile as he refers to her as 'Miss Stormy Silph'. With a wave of her hand, Stormy encourages the man to relax and refrain from formalities.[break][break]

"Please, just call me Stormy. But yeah-- yeah I'm ready. Let's hit the road, err-- the open sea, I guess. Pray we don't bump into any raging Gyarados or something stupid. I could really use a quiet trip."[break][break]

She grips the handle of her suitcase as she steps closer to Sénon, taking a deep breath before forcing a more encouraging smile.[break][break]

"Ready when you are, cap'."[break][break]

He took her suitcase quickly enough. Far be it from him to take away her independence, what might have been a load for her to lift was lightwork for himself. Placing her luggage where she asked he adjusted his bowtie before giving word to the actual captain.

In better spirits he might have cracked a grin to go along with his cheeky words. "We'll keep the volume down for you." Lack of grin aside his face softened and his body language became less stiff.

Pulling back his jacket only slightly he removed the second of the six balls on his hip.

Pointing the red beam into the sea a Gyarados materialized; ready for conflict from the look of it. Resting Bitch Face, they called it. He spoke out in a voice firm communicating the severity of task, even if she'd find it mundane.

"Ran, circle this boat, turn back any threats or alert me." He turned to Stormy to consider what she asked of him and turned back to Ranton to adjust orders. "Quietly."

Going under without a fight the Gyarados went about her patrol and Sénon turned his focus back to the V.I.P. after sending off a text message to Cait and putting his phone away. "The Captain says we'll be there before dawn. There's pillows and blankets in the storage if you need 'em." He gave enough space to stay out of her hair, but wasn't far enough to be considered aloof.

Stormy rolls her shoulders back as soon as the man releases her burden. With the luggage tucked away and her person effectively freed, she feels just a little more relaxed and normal. Fernando, among other council officials, likely, had insisted that she take time off to recover and relax. She had both begrudgingly and eagerly accepted the offer, feeling guilt for abandoning ship and yet relief for being given the chance to just... do nothing for a while.[break][break]

"I was joking. Mostly."[break][break]

She does, however, stare at him with blankness as he releases a Gyarados into the water - the very thing that she had suggested would be a terrible idea if they ran into any. It encourages a loud, barking laugh from the bottom of her belly, and she shakes her head.[break][break]

As it disappears, she studies Senon's face for a moment, gaze following the mention of pillows and blankets. Surprisingly, however, she isn't really tired. Not at the moment, anyway.[break][break]

"So, who did you piss off to get stuck here with me?"[break][break]

From over the rails of the speedboat he could have lost himself in the beauty of the waves.

Somewhere deep in his gut the echo of Kyogre's presence made him flinch. How tiny and insignificant human lives could be at times was a sobering drop of melancholy in his thoughts. Luckily the other passenger didn't leave him with his thoughts long.

"I'm not too sure." He turned his back to the sea putting his weight back, leaning against the low railing. "They said I was the only Ranger left across three warfronts who hadn't refused to guard you." Then came his grin. "The "Buzzwole" were dangerous maneaters, I was told killing one made them certain I could survive a trip on a small boat with you."

He smiled at her somewhere between sheepish and teasing.

"Of course I'm sure they don't care what comes of me, so long as you make it there in one piece." He marked himself expendable and only half-believed it to be true from the league's point of view. Regardless he was good sport about it.

Deeper from behind his jacket's cover he grabbed the fifth ball on his hip, calling Jakka to provide a bit of ambient light.

Stormy's neutral expression soon spreads into a warm grin, amusement brightening her expression. She regards him briefly from the corner of her eye as she makes her way to the side of the boat, to lean over its edge and gaze into its depths. But his teasing encourages her to glances over her shoulder, to rest her chin against it.[break][break]

"Oh, is that so? Killing a Buzzwole, that's pretty impressive. I must be in excellent company."[break][break]

The woman breathes out a tired chuckle, shaking her head as she turns back to stare out across the water. She feels the boat lurch forward and she does too, gathering her balance beneath her as the boat takes off. She takes in a long, deep breath, relishing the smell and taste of the ocean. It's grounding.[break][break]

"I'm glad they sent someone with a sense of humor. What's your name, ranger? I don't believe I've met you in the field before."[break][break]

Though there was nothing in her question that suggested she believed he was expendable. All of the league's rangers were vital, and there was something about this man in particular that she already appreciated. Confidence with humility -- an ideal combination.[break][break]

It wasn't just for lighting that he'd called Jakka out from his pokéball. Rumor had it Story Silph though not a fire-themed trainer was one hell of a fire specialist, particularly of Kanto-region fire types. A charmander was just the right creature to set her mind at ease. He did his best to mind his manners but for all the staring he didn't give her, his charmander did.

Palming his red scalp like a baseball Sénon raised its awareness with a soft reminder. "Be mindful of that tail would ya?" Looking out over the ocean the young fire-type was racked with a certain terror that made him hold his own tail to keep from absentmindedly setting the boat on fire. In his fear, he moved closer to Stormy.

"I'm Sénon. Like... 'say', 'non'." He extended to hand to her in a respectful shake. "Sénon Game; Cinnabar Island." He wasn't sure why he'd begun to name drop his hometown at the same time he dropped his actual name.

Being Kantonian had become such a badge of honor of him and given he was in the company of a fellow native, it only felt right.

"How long has it been since you went home Stormy?"

Stormy's attention shifts down to the man's Charmander as he releases it. The moment the small lizard rushes toward her in fear, the woman scoops it up into her arms immediately. She cooes to it adoringly, glancing up at Senon briefly to offer him a small smile.[break][break]

"He's beautiful!"[break][break]

The man introduces himself as her per request and she purses her lips, and then repeats his name slowly to make sure that she had it right. [break][break]

"Cinnabar Island, huh? Am I a piss-poor Kantonian if I say I've never visited?"[break][break]

But she has immediately gained increased respect for the man across from her. Like him, she wore her Kantonian heritage as a badge of honor -- even if she hadn't actually been born there. It was where she had been raised and where she called home. Although.. Hoenn had rapidly become a bigger part of her life. There had been a time she considered going home to Kanto, after everything there had calmed down.[break][break]

Instead, she'd become Hoenn's elite.[break][break]

Stormy exhales loudly, her thoughts morose. She considers his question and avoids his gaze.[break][break]

"Too long."[break][break]

Jakka was a special boy. The direct sire of Sénon's childhood charmander starter. He was being groomed and raised quite carefully from the egg stage and he was exceptional in performance though lacking in his mental development. He was still very much a baby despite his growing acumen for battle.

It was the reason he could take on a Drednaw several times his size, but shivered in terror at the thought of the ocean.

The Lady Silph expressed apprehension about having never been to his hometown. "Not in the least. There was never a lot there; just a few lab nerds, a volcano and a gym leader." That was always what he'd loved the most about it; how remote it was despite being such a technological marvel of Kanto. "Now, its just the volcano."

As she sighed his crossed his arms taking comfort in the sea breeze. It made him smile to see such humanity in a champion of the league; she wasn't the champion but that was just semantics as far as he was concerned. As a member of Hoenn's Elite Four she was undisputed as one of their pillar trainers.

To find substance not very far underneath her style, it was clear and evident how she'd earned her place among Hoenn's elite. To meet a person larger than life yet, somehow, totally human.

In that way, Stormy reminded him very much of Cait.

"When Kanto is... Kanto again..." For the split of a second his mind went to the costs that would have to be paid to restore his home region back to its non-crime riddled state. Costs he was more than willing to pay, once he could afford to on his own. "I'll show you around the place." His face made not a grin but a playful smirk as he held up a pinkie to give his word in a bit of a swear of intention. "Ranger's word."
