Priam's enthusiasm could at times be overwhelming, but on this occasion Gavin matches it with his own, grinning at the much smaller fish that emerges from its ball. "Yours looks a lot less demented than mine."

Arctovish and its fossil kin were the laughing stock of the Galarian scientific community these days but Gavin couldn't help but to be fond of the abominations. He's quick to return this one to its ball, though, knowing it would be uncomfortable out of the water.

In its place emerges a Porygon-Z, originally acquired to aid Rocket with the submarine before being released back into Gavin's care. He directs it lazily at the magnetic field. "Traverse it, see what you can do."

It uses its magnet rise to float along the field, probing.

priam takes out his pokemon that glows in the dark when uncharted territory shows itself. getting lost in the dark wasn't he most exciting thing as much as priam likes the challenge, and so he relies on his shiinotic to illuminate the way.

he recalls the carvanha back to its pokeball as the shiinotic remains on priam's legs. it manages to give off a glow that fends off the dark that gets priam to actually see beyond what the little light on his explorer kit provides.

it does bring a question in his head that he promptly addresses.

"do you have darkvision since you have darkrai?" priam asks dominic. "it's a serious question."

dominic blinks rapidly as bright light begins to flood his vision. traversing further into the depths hardly felt appealing but he held his tongue and kept his gaze stubbornly fixed on the tunnel ahead. at priam's question dominic inclines his head and fixes him with a blank stare, opening and closing his mouth as he tries to process the question and come up with an adequate answer.

"no," he says after a few seconds, brow quirking to a frown. "i just have to make guesses to where i'm going in the shadow."

swapping out his pokemon for a magnezone, he urges the steel-type to assist gavin's porygon-z with a MAGNETIC FLUX.

Occasionally, one would be able to spot a Probopass floating around with its "Mini-Noses" hovering about like drones. "that's boring!" he responds to dominic before going ahead.

priam runs first, ignoring the probopass wandering around, because he's the only entry fragger of this group. once he steps in, he feels the earth shake by his foot before defense mechanisms in the cave activate.

"oshit!"

the walls start to crumble and cave-ins start to happen, blocking off the way from their group. priam quickly whips out a pokemon without thinking much about it and gets a trubbish to clear it out.

"yeah! clear this out!" he yells, reiterating the previous paragraph.

a gunk shot is released from its mouth, hurtling towards the blockade at high force. poison and goo accompany the blast, covering the rocks with muck after the initial shot.

Gavin regards Dominic with a sort of surprised curiosity; he'd never given much thought to the other's abilities. "Really? That sounds inconvenient."

They're both spared further interaction by Priam's eagerness, the youth of their group charging ahead with no regard to potential danger.

"Priam—!"

Gavin tenses as the tunnel rumbles around them, dust and rock forming a blockade that thankfully does no harm other than to slow them down. He shoots Priam a look that's half-reproach, half-worry. "You're going to get yourself killed, running ahead like that."

Porygon lets out a series of frantic beeps that Gavin interprets as distress at its own inability to clear the rubble, so he switches it out for a Naganadel whose droning hum echoes down the passage behind them. It copies the Trubbish with a gunk shot of its own, and Gavin's nose wrinkles at the acrid stench.

"it is," dominic replies to gavin shortly, pursing his lips. stepping through the shadow is more complex than that but he lacks the words to articulate it beyond the fact that it leaves a sensation of cold in his lungs.

dominic withdraws another capsule and sends out an ariados that scuttles ahead to assist the other pokemon with its own poisonous attack.

As the dust settles, Gavin coughs into the crook of his arm and laments his decision to continue smoking for the umpteenth time.

When he recovers, the Naganadel is switched out for his signature Corviknight. It's almost too quiet in the absence of the Ultra Beast's droning wings, but he pushes the thought aside in favour of progress.

Corviknight glows with energy before hurling itself at one of the walls with a body press.

he recalls the trubbish to its ball. it's done its job and it doesn't need to do more of it since the smell doesn't have anywhere else to go as an exhaust. it lingers in the area and they can only hope that some kind of breeze washes it away.

"yeah, but i'm, like, the protagonist of this show," he answers gavin, sweat rolling down the side of his temple despite the bravado. "i never die."

the pokemon is replaced with a scyther. "tada. it's the best pokemon ever!" he says, still hanging on to the sentiment it has with it as a kanto kid. he also lowkey bragged about scyther being all that great in front of marcel before, so he has to back his words up.

"vacuum wave!" he orders it, and vacuum wave it does.

dominic swaps one pokemon for another in a swift, practiced gesture. the urshifu cranes its neck to look around them in the dim light, and dominic finds himself wondering if it recognises marcel and priam.

casting a glance toward priam and his scyther, dominic's lips twitch into a brief smile. "i feel much better knowing the best pokemon ever is with us," he drawls and then gestures to the spot it had attacked in the wall so command his urshifu to follow suit.
