after the ultra beast war, hoenn begins to heal. the megalopolan invasion may have failed; however, it is clear there is much more at stake. a prophecy revolving around a cyclical meteoroid, the appearance of necrozma and a dangerous and viral alien threaten the safety of the region once more.
with rocket's new boss, the resurgence and reappearance of the crime syndicate's presence is imminent. the league has done its best to repair its reputation, and with the victory of a war under their belt, perhaps it is enough. but the seeds of distrust have already been sown in the ravaged land of this region, causing many to wonder what will grow?
The wild was something Enma had long since grown used to, having been on many a trip to help injured or displaced wild Pokémon in the past few years of his life. There were many things he’d seen, and many places he’d been. Route 101, however, was not a place he’d been before. It wasn’t the longest route, and far from dangerous, so he’d never even thought to go here. But lately something was pulling him towards the grassy and sparsely wooded area, something he couldn’t quite put his finger on.
Regardless, he still had Yami out, his trusted partner reluctantly sniffing at patches of grass as if expecting something to jump out at him. To be fair, that was what usually happened given their penchant for heading to more dangerous routes, but it seemed unlikely here. They’d be fairly safe here, Yami was plenty strong and if necessary he had Dark Magician and Curse in their balls. Everything would be fine... right?
Zac slapped his dirty hands against his pants, getting rid of most of the soil that had clung to hm during the hours working in the garden. His personal berry garden was nearby, and as he made the treck back to Petalburg he took a quick break on a grassy hill, enjoying the warm grass.
It was a great day to be outside, and the air was thick was balmy autumn sunlight and a thin haze of pollen.
Something massive and black moved at the edge of the grass, jolting Zac from his cloudgazing to see a thin, spiky haired youth walking with his magnificent Luxray.
"Now that's a gorgeous pokemon you've got there." Zac called out to the stranger. There was a rustle in the grass, heading straight for the Luxray. "Heads up! Looks like he's found something!"
Enma heard a stranger’s voice shouting something about Yami had found something just as the one-eyed Luxray Roared, a Teddiursa tumbling out of the grass and waddling away, having Slashed at him before wisely realizing just how large the Pokémon it had irritated was. Enma winced at the volume of the roar. Yami still got too excited when it came to battle, and it seemed the wild Pokémon shared the sentiment; for not a moment later a Kecleon fell out of a nearby tree.
Enma raised a hand in greeting to the stranger, slowly walking up to his Luxray to make sure he wasn’t hurt. One quick inspection revealed a thin set of scratches on Yami’s muzzle, but those were easily treatable with the basic antiseptic spray he carried in his bag. Pulling said spray out, Enma prepared for some very undignified noises from Yami as he carefully sprayed and cleaned the thin cuts. He was right to prepare for those noises, because the spray had Yami howling and pawing at his nose with a fierce glare directed at his trainer.
Zac flinched as the Kecleon landed nearby. "Whoa! Didn't even see the little guy up there!" He threw a pokeball at the lizard, which was too stunned to put up any resistance. Grabbing his latest capture Zac trotted off down the hill towards the newcomer.
His pokemon was hurt, and as Zac approached he saw that the stranger, while thin, was not as young as he had originally thought. There was a sharpness to his jaw and a hardness to his eyes that spoke of someone definitively out of their teen years.
"Sorry if I startled ya'." Zac said, reaching the pair. The Luxray had taken a slash across the muzzle, but it didn't look too deep. "I'm Zac, nice to meetcha." He said, grinning and holding out a hand in warm welcome.
“I know it stings Yami, but you’re not that much of a wimp and you know it.” Enma said to his Pokémon, finally standing up and turning around to look at the stranger only after Yami released one final growl. The stranger then went on to introduce himself as Zac, and Enma finally got a look at the man. He was tall, so tall that a sharp stab of jealously hit him as he extended a hand of his own. However, the tall man didn’t seem rude or malicious, so Enma forced the feeling down. “Enma. Likewise.” He said, keeping his words short and to-the-point. No need to bother with pointless frivolities with someone Ye didn’t really know.
Unfortunately, their greetings were interrupted by the arrival of a magnificent Pidgeot, her screeching cry echoing among the trees. Enma had always wanted a flying type to call his own, and took a look at Yami beside him. Ignoring the powerful wind the bird Pokémon’s wings were kicking up, Enma pointed at the Pidgeot while Yami watched. “Try and ground her with discharge! Let’s catch a new friend, eh?” He said, the large electric type obliging his trainer with a burst of electricity. The bolts seemed to strike dead on, forcing the bird to fly lower and land before her wings gave out. Taking the chance, Enma threw a pokeball, hoping to catch her in one simple move so he could heal her up with the basic medical supplies he always carried in the wild.
As Zac's new mate Enma eyed off an approaching Pidgeot, Zac saw his own chance at a powerful friend. Trying to hide in a thin copse of trees was a Cacturne, it's grass hat pulled low over its eyes.
"Not doing too crash hot at hiding there friend." Zac said, approaching the scarecrow. The Cacturne didn't move, still trying to keep up the charade. "How did you even get here? We're near bloody Petalburg for crying out loud! Did you wander all the way from Mauville?"
Almost within arm's reach, the pokemon finally looked up at Zac. Under the hat, its sunken eyes looked confused, lost. "It's okay buddy. Come with me. I've got somewhere nice and warm you can hang out. Tons of sand too. Sound good?"
The Cacturne nodded, and a few moments later it was nestled in a pokeball in Zac's bag.
The Pokeball shook for what seemed like an eternity before finally clicking to signal a successful capture, grinning, Enma made to pick up the ball only to find himself looking straight at a little Ralts hanging out nearby. Hmmm... a fairy type would be useful too, wouldn’t it? Unlike the Pidgeot though, he wouldn’t battle it. It felt wrong to fight something so much smaller than Yami with such a big Pokémon. Instead, he crouched, pocketing the Pokeball with one hand and extending the other to the dual typed fairy.
“Hey there little buddy, want to come home with us?” He asked, an uncharacteristic gentleness lacing his tone. He usually only reserved the gentleness for young Pokémon, but this little one seemed pretty lost and confused. It wouldn’t do to scare the Pokémon away before he could take it home, so he was slow and careful in his movements as he held out the ball to the small Pokémon. Luckily, it didn’t take long for the creature to decide, as he soon had a second Pokeball right next to the first in his pocket.
On his way back to the path, Zac's backpack felt a little off. A bit too heavy, and way too...full?
He pulled off the pack and opened it up to find a smiling pink face poking up at him from inside. Zac picked it up, and the pokemon's brown, triangular ears wriggled with glee. It let out a soft sound of excitement.
"It seems like all the little round ones are coming after me today!" Zac said, putting the Cleffa back in his bag. "Well, more the merrier little one. Lets see what else is around!"
