They'd put on a show. The crowd was behind them. The "Little Rookie" they'd been dubbed. It was funny, considering Josh's age. But on the big stage? This was a big debut. And really, considering he hadn't been known in years... This really was a fresh start, wasn't it? A start for him, and as well, a start for Logu. Logu wasn't like many of Josh's other Pokemon -- he hadn't caught them outside of Hoenn and brought them over. No, Josh had been tending to his Garden here in Hoenn when a little Fletchling destroyed several hard-grown berries and nearly burnt down the entire ranch in the process. But despite that, Josh had forgiven it and caught it. The two had been training together for some time, and honestly, Logu's participation in this Contest was on a whim. But something about Logu's endless fighting spirit captured his attention. He couldn't help but know from the beginning that if he made it to the finals... He wanted it to be with Logu. He wanted to see that fighting spirit through to the end, and see just what it could do, no matter how hard it might be. He believed in Logu... And he knew it could do it.

But even with the brilliant display, the more experienced Coordinators took the stage. The burning dress, the azure flame, it was beautiful, it really was... And for a moment, even Josh had to wonder if they could pull it off. Logu seemed to sense this, looking back at its Trainer. Logu could sense his anxiety, and even it began to sweat. Its hesitation put it out of the way when Talonflame launched Flare Blitz, and Ninetales launched Energy Ball right back at it. Talonflame met the Energy Ball head on with Flare Blitz, and even as it seemed to take damage, it kept going... For Ninetales... And with the direction it would be going? It would be heading for Logu next. But the two of them had taken the center stage for now... Wrested it all away when they finally had begun to show the crowd what they could do...

Josh had gulped, unsure of if they could be stopped. Logu wasn't one of his oldest Pokemon, their inexperience was evident, but... He did have one thing.

This he realized as he perked up, a gasp echoing from his mouth as he seemed to sense quickly that he had been slowing Logu down with his own hesitation. As the smoke formed from Talonflame and Ninetales meeting... He knew their time needed to be now. And he needed to stop holding Logu back...

He needed to let him fly as free as Ho-Oh itself.

"LOGU!" Josh cried out at the top of his lungs. "YOU CAN DO THIS!"

The Fletchling perked up, looking to its Trainer only a moment as it appeared to feel everything. The love in his voice, the support... The belief.

They may have only been together for a short time, but he believed in Logu.

Determination in its little eyes, Logu didn't hesitate any longer.

Its body began to glow as it charged with Acrobatics, spinning through the air just as Talonflame and Ninetails' struggle ended. They had barely a moment for the crowd to process their struggle before Logu was on Talonflame. The remnants of Flare Blitz at the last edges of its momentum, verses what was still a much smaller opponent. On paper... That might be enough to sway things in Talonflame's favor.

But Acrobatics was about speed. With no item, and with Logu's small size, combined with the speed from Tailwind earlier...

The bigger and the smaller clashed. With the right timing, the right size, and with Acrobatics, Logu was able to hold on. But the overwhelming force of Talonflame may well be too much... As determined as it was...

Was this the end of the little Fletchling's dream?

"COME ON LOGUUUUU!"

Logu's glow began to change, as flames began to encompass its body...

"Like a fire in my blood,"

"Like a fire in my blood,"

"FLEEEEETCH!"

Logu pushed forward with all the determination in the world, and the crowd would be drawn to the tense struggle, as the Fletchling suddenly began to change shape... It began to grow in size, and the struggle became more even as the glow calmed just enough to reveal a new form.

Josh's eyes widened, his mouth agape, as the crowd shot into a frenzy.

"That's..."

this battle was no longer a free-for-all, but a one on one. once the dust cloud settled between the energy ball and flare blitz, Stormy Silph would be unable to continue; talonflame remained above, and Josh Dragomir's fletchling would come to be a fletchinder. the crowd rallied and cheered, excited by what had just occurred. [break][break]

the fletchinder, once a fletchling, successfully escaped the talonflame's assault; though only by a hair. talonflame's true target had been Stormy Silph, after all. unfortunately she met her end and this was where she'd stop. "with Stormy Silph out, this battle is reaching its climax!" both parties were reaching their limit, but who could hold out for a little longer?[break][break]

"both Adelaide Whiteley and Josh Dragomir really unleashed quite the spectacle, but with this battle nearing its end. only one can come out victorious, who will it be?" it was time for the both of them to give it their all.

They were in the home stretch. Josh couldn't help but gulp at that. They had shot the highest shot possible, and then some, but hadn't been able to take an advantage in this fight. Ninetales may have been taken out, but now it meant the final rounds would be even more heated. Josh was still in awe at Logu's evolution. A Fletchinder... He'd never trained a Fletchinder before. It was a new and wonderful experience, one he didn't think would start in the middle of a Contest. But he knew they needed to finish strong.

"Logu! Let's keep the momentum up! Steel Wing!" he called out to the newly evolved Fletchinder, whose wings began to glow a brilliant silver as it spun through the air, a blur akin to a plane's propeller as it tried to clip its bigger half with a quick attack. The spinning right after the evolution caused the sparks that had grown on its body throughout the evolution to shoot into the air, dazzling the fans with a rare light-show that would rarely be seen again in a Contest hall. An evolution during a Contest was a rare thing, and Josh intended to ensure that the fans knew full well they were getting something special.
