That he's considered competent enough to be brought in as a consultant for the training of fossil Pokemon is a boost to an already well-fed ego; Gavin accepts for this reason alone. Even the notion of travelling to Sootopolis, his least favourite city in Hoenn, does not deter him from the opportunity to posture.

He's surprised to have recognized the Ranger they'd paired him with.

As he'd predicted based on their notoriously spoiled temperament, one of the Tyrunt is throwing a legendary tantrum, but it quiets down when Gavin sends his own Pokemon onto the field.

His Tyrantrum was a queen, and she knew it, letting out a deafening roar to cow the younger fossil Pokemon.

"How'd you get landed with babysitting duty, Kingsman?"

He'd instructed Tyrantrum beforehand to be gentle, and so she starts out light by spreading stealth rocks across the field. Any Tyrunt who wished to approach her would need to do so carefully, lest they stumble over sharp stone.

"It's sensible to have a tailored program for fossil Pokemon" he muses, nodding. "They often adjust differently than others."

He'd found his Tyrunt in the wild, likely abandoned by someone who couldn't handle the immense responsibility of caring for the brat. She'd been a tough one to raise but it had been well worth it to witness the strong-jawed beauty standing before him.

As the Tyrunt is egged on by its fellows, its ancient power is sent toward the larger dinosaur. She makes no attempt to avoid it, instead opening her strong jaws and crunching down on the glowing sphere. When she opens her mouth, her own ancient power has manifested into a larger orb that she swallows whole.

"Show off," he chides, fond. To the little one, he advises, "Her strength is in her jaws. Get behind her, and she'll have a harder time."

"It's nigh impossible to provide optimal conditions, especially outside of Kalos."

Gavin stoicly awaits the Tyrunt's next move, and his Tyrantrum inherits his patience. As soon as her target moves, the larger dinosaur attempts to track it with her gaze, but that becomes a struggle as the earth begins to shake. Gavin paces back to brace himself along the wall and Tyrantrum snarls in frustration, swinging her dragon-like tail.

"Excellent," Gavin encourages the Tyrunt.

"Suboptimal doesn't have to mean 'poor'," is his advice, accompanied by a shrug of his shoulders. "Treat them as you would most Pokemon when it comes to assessing their comfort and welfare, but do some extra research on the species to be aware of potential health risks. Their immune systems are sometimes susceptible to things they weren't designed to resist."

That was the problem, after all, with resurrecting creatures meant to be long-dead. It didn't stop science, though.

Following his advice, the more agile Tyrunt manages to circle around its larger foe. Tyrantrum's footfalls shake the earth as she struggles to turn, movements made slow by her sheer size. Her tail lashes in response, but she has no way of discerning her opponent's location until it slams down on her tail.

"Well done. Would any of the others like to try?"

Tyrantrum grumbles, acquiescent to her fate.

"That's what I'm here for," Gavin reminds Razz, when the other apologises. "I can't speak to dragon-types; I've only raised a few, and most of them fossil Pokemon." Naganadel was an Ultra Beast, and he tried not to think of his poor Appletun's fate. "But for Tyrunt in particular, I'd be careful with what they're exposed to after leaving the facility. Pokemon raised in a controlled environment already run the risk of adapting poorly to outside factors, and fossil Pokemon more-so."

Tyrantrum snorts and stamps her foot as if to agree with the Ranger's comment on being sick of children, but Gavin flicks his wrist dismissively. "She'll manage, don't worry. If you pander to them, their spoiled nature can be unbearable."

Knowing Tyrantrum understands every word, he shoots her a smile. She grumbles at him, but remains in place.
