The streetlight flickered and cast shadow tendrils down the darkened alley. Dressed in dark jeans and a black v-neck t-shirt, Jackson almost blended into the alley's backdrop as he strode, hands in pockets, to the faded wooden door of the bar. A neon sign glowed 'open' through the window and the door creaked ominously as Jackson pushed his way inside.

Although the location strayed from the brightly lit main streets, the bar did not lack popularity. Locals of Rustboro City were oft found mingling and drinking far beyond the benefit of their kidneys within the bar's confines. Jackson already recognized the gray bearded man with his body slumped over the bar table. A heavily tattooed man with short black hair and a sleeveless tank top was nudging his shoulder while crude words spilled off his tongue.

Although Jackson had always had a home, a place to go to, a place with air conditioning and heating and proper water flow, he had always felt that the streets had been his mother. He'd met Miro outside this very bar. Just a small boy trying to find something to occupy his time and escape from the torture of his father. She'd become a friend he'd die for and a friend that had stayed with him through new friendships and new adventures, lost friendships and lost lives.

As comforting as it was to return to this place, he only ever came here when life had turned him on his head. And this week had certainly taken the cake. Taken it. Smashed it. Stomped on it. Rubbed a foot in for good measure. Jackson had spent the hours before coming here screaming obscenities to no one in his downtown apartment while Miro gazed at him with beady eyes laced of worry. A drink had been what he needed and a drink was what he was going to get.

"Scotch on the rocks." Jackson commanded as he slid onto a bar stool two seats away from the drunken regular and crossed his arms across the table. Then, adjusted themselves until his hand was folded under his head and he gazed off into space. The drink arrived in no time (for benefit of a quiet night), it was drunk, and then another was ordered upon his table. Again, it was drunk within seconds, the taste burning a trail down his throat. Jackson wasn't here to sip and enjoy it. He was here to get drunk and forget about the smashed cake.

Where as day was unfamiliar and unsettling, the night was comfortable. Darkness cloaked around his shoulders like an old friend, comforting him with it's warm embrace. Cool air blasted from the doors of the bar that were swinging open and closed as daybreak vanished and dusk appeared, inviting the time of day that was made for drunks and retiring office workers. Jayden fell into the latter category, but was slowly finding his way to the former as he nursed a glass of liquor between his hands. Despite his otherwise gloomy appearance, the boy had taken to taking a peach-flavored liquor, which might not have been what was expected of him if someone had been looking in on him from afar.  [break][break]

What could he say? He liked fruits.  [break][break]

As for why he decided to spend his time in a shady bar this evening... well, that was a complicated explanation, one that Jayden didn't particularly feel like getting into. These days, he wasn't sure where he spent the majority of his time, or what he was doing with his life. Almost a year ago, his life had been simpler. He had known every day where he would be, where food would come from, and when the checks would settle in. Even if father had still been in his life, even if his life had been filled with more bruises than it was of recent, it had been something comfortable because Jayden had known about it. But these days? It sent his stomach tumbling into unease when he thought about the loan sharks that might have creeped around the corner, biting down his throat — and not in the fun way. In the way that made him want to vomit into a toilet, because his pockets were empty, and he had a trail of loan letters stuffed into his pocket, most of which weren't even his. [break][break]

Dmitri Volkov had done a lot to his son in his life, but this must have taken the cake. Putting Jayden into insurmountable debt? Even in death, his father still tortured him. [break][break]

Before his thoughts could get the better of him, another patron entered the bar. Jayden stuffed his hands into his pockets to brace himself from the cold wind, dipping his face into the scarf around his neck. He expected the other man to dump himself towards the edge of the bar, or perhaps take up one of the corner booths. Instead, he stomped his way directly to the center, plopping himself down right beside Jayden without a second thought. This, in itself, was not surprising. Jayden had a tendency to fade into the background, and the fact that he was still wearing slacks and his suit jacket from an earlier interview that day only seemed to help matters. He looked like any depressed office worker in the bar. [break][break]

What was surprising, however, was when the man grabbed the second drink that had been dropped between them. Jayden had asked for a second drink only a few minutes earlier. However, the stranger fiercely grabbed the glass and sloshed it down without pre-amble, taking the breath out of Jayden. "Ah..." he said, hand slightly in the air, as if mid-way into an attempt at stopping him. A failed attempt, of course. "That was..." He inhaled. "Mine..." His words trailed off, swallowed by the soft chit-chatter of the bar.
[break][break]
It wasn't like the other man was about to pay attention to him anyway. Given how lucky Jayden generally was, he would probably have been ignored.

As the liquid fell down his throat, so did it slowly begin to wrap greedy fingers through his mind in the minutes passed. It would take far more than two to take his mind away, but the buzz was already blurring his throat. Another one or two and a moments wait would thrust the drunkenness upon his mind like an avalanche. A welcomed release from old memories that bore holes through his chest like stained daggers.

The taste of the liquid searing down his throat was vastly different than his prior drink. It was fruity. Peach, maybe? Definitely not the bitter flame of scotch. The realization made Jackson blink as he stared down at the cup and then noticed the outstretched hand from the corner of his vision. He turned, blinked at the stranger sat beside him, then glanced once more at the emptied cup.

First of all, he was almost shocked to see somebody sitting next to him. The slacks and suit jacket had blended into a background of depressed office workers. The type that Jackson was familiar, but rarely busied himself with. They tended to keep to themselves, sometimes causing a fuss or mess, but rarely prompting an interest from Jackson. Jackson let his eyes trail from slacks to suit jacket and lastly lingered on the stranger's face. Weary eyes and posture that spoke of stolen confidence. He surely was no different than any other depressed office worker slouched across the scattered bar tables. Except, maybe, worse for the wear.

Secondly, well... wasn't his fault the drink had been set so close to him. It tasted like shit anyway.

By now, his own drink had been placed upon the bar with a quiet clink. Had Jackson been drunker, less inhibited, he might have chugged this one as well. Instead, he crudely dropped his held glass to the table and slid the glass of scotch to the stranger beside him. Alcoholic liquid splattered across the table. "Just drink this and don't whine about it." He demanded, quickly flagging down the bartender for yet another drink (no, two) to be delivered to him. He wasn't a beggar for small talk, but the stranger's downtrodden appearance had found him a rare interest. "Yours tasted like shit anyway."

It was, again, only a moment before the next two drinks were on his table and Jackson swigged this one with equal haste. However, his eyes were now locked on the shadowed features of the stranger. He'd be more than satisfied to slid the other drink to him as well. It wasn't like he had any monetary woes. This was pocket change.

"You look like shit, too. Might as well get fucked up the right way."

The words of the other startled Jayden; he hadn't been expected to be dignified with a response. What was even more shocking was the fact that the other man seemed to be accepting enough of his mistake to offer Jayden his own drink in return — though not accepting enough to apologize for it.

[break][break]

But it was alright. Jayden wasn't picky.

[break][break]

His fingers curled around the unfamiliar glass, looking at the golden liquid that swirled beneath. Scotch was not an unfamiliar drink to him; it had always been father's choice of beverage. The two ice cubes floated in it's center, clicking against the edges, as Jayden brought it up to his mouth and took a sip. It burned as it went down his throat, perhaps not as pleasantly as the peach schnapps would have.

[break][break]

Now that they had been introduced, Jayden could feel the other's eyes on him. If Jackson looked, he would say a somewhat lanky young man, dressed in clean slacks, a pristine dress shirt, and a blue scarf that was still wrapped around his neck, despite the fact that he was already indoors. It wasn't that Jayden was particularly cold — maybe he just hadn't gotten the chance to take it off? Or perhaps, he was still wearing it for other reasons.

[break][break]

As the boy nursed his free drink, he watched out of the corner of his eye as the other man downed the other two with equal haste as the previous ones. Now that he could get a better look at him, Jayden thought he might have looked familiar. His thoughts could not place a name to it quite yet, but they would get there eventually. Had they met before? Perhaps in passing, or maybe at the coffee shop that he worked part-time at? Regardless, the man was not a sight for sore eyes.

[break][break]

"You look like shit, too. Might as well get fucked up the right way."

[break][break]

It appeared that the thoughts were not matched. Not that Jayden noticed. Emotions were not generally his strong suit. He blinked, and then cocked his head to the side. "Thanks... I think?" Was it a compliment? It was hard to tell. Perhaps it was the gifted scotch that emboldened him, or perhaps he had simply sat too long in the bar stool, but Jayden found his gaze drawn to the other again (opposed to another time, in which he would have withdrawn even more into himself at the presence of company.) "You also look..."" A pause, in which Jayden's eyes roved over the other man. Perhaps even a little hungrily. "Like shit." Though unlike Jackson's words, which had undoubtedly been said in a careless, scathing way, Jayden's words had been uttered with a hint of a question — as if he wasn't sure if he was using it right.

[break][break]

Once again, his head tilted. He place a hand on the counter, to distract himself. "What's your name?" he asked.

Time stretched a clear path for the alcohol to curl through his veins and swirl a cloudy haze in his mind. The lanky man beside him was gently nursing the chilled scotch between his hands, a stark contrast to the hasty swigs of his own. Jackson kept his gaze locked on the oddly familiar features of the stranger even after he had finished the two glasses of alcohol. The blue scarf hid some of his features in it's warm embrace and Jackson wondered just how cold he was to still wear that. Jackson, himself, only had a jacket on over his v-neck t-shirt. If he had been cold, the alcohol would soon bring warmth.

Or perhaps something else would.

Jackson caught the side glances from Jayden, and then the cocked head that indicated a thoughtful process pricking his mind. His comment wasn't intended as a compliment, but if the stranger desired to interpret it as such. Well - what did he care. "Sure." Jackson responded, twirling a small circle in the air with his empty drink. It'd hardly been a half hour since the first drink. Four drinks in quick succession was a guarantee for near-future trouble. Even if one of these drinks had been a watered-down peach.

Jayden's eyes lingered over his body and Jackson tried to read the words written in his gaze, but his own gaze was shaky in movement. Was that lust in the other's eyes? Or just curiosity? He snorted a laugh, something short and restricted, the sound and movement of his lips never reaching to his eyes. Jackson couldn't remember the last time something had morphed his face to a smile that reached beyond his lips. He wasn't about to make a new memory of that, either. "Yeah. Why else would I be wasting my time at a bar?"

While he mulled the thought of ordering another drink and allowing himself to get plastered on this weekday night, Jayden continued the conversation with a question. "Jackson" was the trainer's short response, thinking better of a fifth drink and leaning his elbow on the counter to face Jayden. "Yours?"

It was impossible to tell whether Jayden was staring at Jackson because he was interested in who he was, or because he was interested. In fact, there was a very real possibility that the boy himself didn't even know. Regardless, it was all negligible. Whether it was one or the other — his gaze was intense, and they were trained on the lines of Jackson's body, his arms and his shoulders, the sharp line of his jaw that looked like it could cut butter if it wanted.

[break][break] The sounds of the bar echoed in his ears, a pleasant white noise to the otherwise unsettled feeling in his chest. Everything lately had seemed.. terrible. It was always terrible, but these days it seemed even worse. However, sitting in the bar, next to this stranger that had otherwise assaulted his way into his life... it seemed... a little less terrible.

[break][break] And Jayden, sitting there, listening to the sharp sound of the man's laughter.. he welcomed it. The feeling of less terribleness.

[break][break] He nursed the free drink, which was almost gone by now, the warm buzz of alchohol infused into his veins. Warmth filled his cheeks as he looked up at Jackson. His brows raised. Touche. It was true what Jackson said — only terrible people, or people who looked terrible, would waste their time at a bar. "I could think of a few reasons that you'd want to waste your time at a bar," he said, mouth slightly quirked. It almost sounded coy.

[break][break] Which was impossible. Of course it was impossible. Right?

[break][break] The glass was empty now, and Jayden pushed it away from him, the melting ice clinking against the edges of the glass. "Jayden," he replied, feeling another flush as Jackson forwent the fifth drink and instead stared at him with bedroom eyes. His cheeks flushed, feeling a thrill pulse through him at the sight of another man looking at him that way. "You don't have a last name to go with that name of yours?"

[break][break] He was distracted — he didn't even notice the Delibird slip some coin into his bag.

The buzz of hasty consumed alcohol was quickly and greedily overwhelming Jackson's mind. It cracked chains tightly locked across his heart and burned the barrier of thorns beneath them. The chains would return and the thorns would regrow, but in this moment he could finally feel his chest relax and his breath steady. One more drink would surely send his mind spiralling into drunken paradise.

Through a vision that slowly blurred, returned, then faded again, Jackson kept his eyes trained on Jayden. Obvious to the intense gaze that trailed his face and body. A smirk tugged at the edges of Jackson's lips as the sound of the bar faded like white noise into the background. He could barely hear the sound of the bartenders now frantic attempts to wake the sleeping patron that sat chairs away. Nor could he hear the intense conversation between two office workers as alcohol lowered their filters and returned confidence lost in childhood.

His cheeks burned with warmth, but there was no mistaking the lustful confidence that now enveloped his harsh mind. "Oh?" Jackson straightened his posture, his voice mimicking the almost coy flow of this stranger. "Think you can read my mind, then?" He inquired, curiosity piqued with interest despite the slight inaccuracies of his tone. Vowels were beginning to slur together, but Jackson still kept his words firm and - oh, coy, it was.

Jayden. "Jayden." He toyed with the word as it flowed from his lips. He noticed the redness that blushed Jayden's cheeks. Surely he wasn't drunk already. Not after two measly drinks of whiskey and peach-infused alcohol. No, this was something more. "Not bad." As if the name was chosen by Jayden himself. Eyes so locked onto Jayden's that he didn't notice the Delibird quietly placing a gift at his feet.

"Why the curiosity?" Jackson questioned, his body shifting as he brushed, no, pressed a knee against Jayden's. Was he already interested in taking his name? Surprisingly bold for someone who looked like they'd get stepped on often. In life and bed. He let the question hang in the air as brought his gaze to a near empty glass. Jackson hastily flagged down the bartender, asked for another scotch. This one for Jayden, not for himself. Only then did he answer.

"Barrett." He didn't particularly care for anything more than Jayden's first name. Most time, he never even learned the names of his sexual partners. "How about telling me what the fuck has you getting drunk by yourself." It was a statement, not a question. One might even say it was a demand for information that meant nothing to Jackson. It was only a way to keep him there. Get him drunker. Less inhibited.

Between the clattering sound of the bar, the darkness of it's low hanging lights, and the alcohol in his system, Jayden couldn't tell if the faint fluttering in his chest was the same anxiety he always felt, or if it was something newer, warmer, triggered by the sight of the other's heady gaze trained on his face.

[break][break] "Maybe," Jayden quipped right back, something coy tucked into the corner of his mouth as he raised his eyes to meet the other. "Are you going to let me?" He was not in the habit or the interest of mind reading, since he could barely read his own mind, but it was a fun thought to entertain. Or at least in the recesses of this dimly lit bar, where there was no one but this handsome stranger, and perhaps the lingering bartender, who was keeping a safe enough distance away, but close enough that he could intervene if he felt something was the matter.

[break][break] Jayden had been alive long enough to know what it was like to see concerned eyes focused upon him, a look that he had spent nearly a lifetime making sure to collect. Being threatless and unrecognizable did wonders when you were trying to masquerade as an assassin. But the dark past of his life was far away now. He had no thoughts of murder or torture or unpleasantness that he seemed to carry with him in every other waking breath.

[break][break] Tonight, he felt warm and safely buzzed, not at all close to losing his senses. He could still see straight, and he was sure, if asked, he could have thrown a dagger into the bullseye into the dart board lingering just west of their heads. Yet...

[break][break] Jayden. His name falling from the other's mouth made a thrill chase it's way down his spine, his body warming from something that felt distinctly different from the alcohol that he consumed. That, in addition to the feeling of pressure against his knee as the other pressed his leg against his, Jayden hesitated, his thoughts addled.

[break][break] And yet - he did not pull away. Instead, he leaned in. A hand pressed against the top of the other's knee, taking in the wordless invitation that Jackson had offered. "I'm not allowed to be curious?" he asked, blinking, before turning to take a swig of the drink that had been bought for him. Jackson asked another question, a question that honestly, Jayden wasn't sure he felt like answering. The reasons that had set him in the bar seemed so far away now, so much farther away than the alcohol and the conversation that currently took his interest.

[break][break] Maybe it was the alchol. Maybe it was the company. Maybe it was the desire to ignore everything except for what was right in front of him. Jayden parted his lips. "And what if I don't want to say?" He paused, hand flat against the other's knee, feeling the warmth seep through. "What if - what if I want a distraction instead?"

Jackson mulled over Jayden's response for a mere second before a sly smirk pulled across his lips. "If you did, it'd take away all of the fun, wouldn't it?" He pressed, his thoughts and goals for the evening already brushing aside the stress of his day. They wove tight red lines around his forgone control and the anger of his night, tearing the memories to pieces and replacing them with imagined pictures of bruised wrists and red marks against bare skin. Heavy breaths. Begging words. Taunts and...pleasure.

A warmth buzzed through his body, reaching through his veins and into his lower regions. The background noise of the bar fading into muffled murmers as Jayden leaned into the pressure of his knee. The touch of Jayden's hand didn't bring a thrill to his spine. Instead, a pure lust wove it's way deeper through the sexual imagery that played in Jackson's mind. He could see his hand wrapped around both of Jayden's wrists, another trailing lines and embedding marks across his skin.

I'm not allowed to be curious? The question removed Jackson from his thoughts and he met Jayden's blinking eyes with his own, unblinking, gaze. Impulsion, be damned. Public bar, be damned. The blurred words of his mind screamed at him to grab Jayden's face and pin his body to the bar counter.

Still, he withheld. "And if I said no?" He asked, forgoing the fact that he'd already revealed his last name. Not that it would matter either way. There was little of him on the internet lest he dig into criminal records. Lines upon lines of misdemeanors and violent actions.

A distraction. Jackson could fucking do that. He didn't really care why Jayden was here, anyway. "I can help with that." Jackson shifted his body closer to Jayden's, his knee moving along Jayden's leg and deeper towards the hidden object of desire. He reached out a hand across the bar counter and moved Jayden's drink to the other's lips, boldly tilting the glass to spill the liquid into Jayden's mouth (or on him, but what did that matter? He wouldn't be wearing those clothes much longer).

"Finish it." He commanded, the closeness of the glass just a thinly-veiled excuse to press his knee deeper between Jayden's legs. "Then..." He let the word hang in the air before he lowered his voice and dropped his other hand onto the one occupying his leg. He squeezed tightly. "I'll show you a goddamn good distraction."

"If you did, it'd take away all of the fun, wouldn't it?"

[break][break] Jayden doesn't need to read 's mind to understand the heavy implication behind those words. It sends something deep and hot coiling inside of him, something that he hadn't felt in a while.

[break][break] Whatever Jackson was thinking is plainly visible on his face. Or at least, that's what Jayden thinks, as he leans into his touch, fingers curling slightly around the others, in their place on his knee. As Jackson gets lost in his own thoughts, his own fantasies of what the night could possible have for them, Jayden finds himself even more focused and ready. His eyes follow the curve of the other man's face, the handsome curve of his jaw, the heady stare in his smoldering gray eyes.

[break][break] "If you said no..." Jayden repeats, half for the emphasis, and half also for the benefit of his alcohol-addled brain. The smile that dances on his lips are playful at best, perhaps even slightly coy. "I don't think you're going to say no."

[break][break] As if to drive his point home, Jackson says that he can help and leans closer. His knee digs even deeper, pressing in places it probably shouldn't, and the dark-haired man lets out a startled sound as there is a sudden press of glass against his lips. The demand echoes in his ears, making his skin hot. Jayden was never a man to turn down a challenge, and so he swallows the forced drink against his mouth, his adam's apple bobbing, eyes shifting to watch Jackson watching him. Most of it he is able to swallow, but there are a few droplets that slide down his throat and onto his collarbone. Jayden swallows as the last drop falls on his tongue, and then curls his finger around the shotglass, placing it back on the table beside them. A dribble of golden liquid slides down the side of his mouth, and he wipes it away with his thumb.

[break][break] His eyes are dark as he looks back at Jackson. "What's next?"

The buzz of sounds that surrounded them faded to silence as Jackson's intents and desires focused in on Jayden. His face blushed with the burn of alcohol as the rocket member's greedy gaze outlined Jayden's face and then fell to his exposed neck. Already, the foggy mind imagined the marks and bruises he desired to leave. The outline of a hand print. Sexual desire and controlling desire mixed and mingled into one, possessive, want. He licked his lips and bit his lip like a predator lying in a patient-less wait for its prey.

He moved his hand from beneath Jayden's touch, raised it, then dropped it back upon his hand. He squeezed. I don't think you're going to say no. The coy tone laced through Jayden's words made Jackson's inner prey drive surge wildly as it burned through his body. "Maybe you can read my mind."

He watches, greedily, as Jayden swallows the poisonous liquid and golden droplets drip from his lips. Before he can raise a hand, Jayden is already wiping it away with a thumb. What's next? Jackson's gaze meets the dark eyes of Jayden. Then...

In a swift movement, Jackson has raised a hand to grasp the collar of Jayden's casual suit and pull him close. There is no gentle touch as he moves to press covetous lips against Jayden's. He has no doubts that Jayden will resist, but if he does, he would be met with the equal, perhaps stronger, resistance of a lustful man. A man who has nothing to lose. A men desperate for relief on the cusp of a fucking awful day. A man desperate for one last clutch of control to remind him how powerful he is.

When he finally pulls away, he does not remove the grip on Jayden's shirt collar. Instead, he stays close, his other hand sliding up Jayden's arm and curling around his upper bicep. He murmurs a whisper into Jayden's ear. "I know a place." A home. A bed. If Jayden agreed (though Jackson would hardly allow a refusal), they would abandon their drinks on the bar table. Stumble through the dark alleys, down the empty streets. Past an old wooden door, across a faded, scratched, wooden floor, to a bed with a night stand on either side and rumpled sheets. A place away from curious gazes and invasive stares.
