[attr="class","tabrisbody"] Where as day was unfamiliar and unsettling, the night was comfortable. Darkness cloaked around his shoulders like an old friend, comforting him with it's warm embrace. Cool air blasted from the doors of the bar that were swinging open and closed as daybreak vanished and dusk appeared, inviting the time of day that was made for drunks and retiring office workers. Jayden fell into the latter category, but was slowly finding his way to the former as he nursed a glass of liquor between his hands. Despite his otherwise gloomy appearance, the boy had taken to taking a peach-flavored liquor, which might not have been what was expected of him if someone had been looking in on him from afar. [break][break]
What could he say? He liked fruits. [break][break]
As for why he decided to spend his time in a shady bar this evening... well, that was a complicated explanation, one that Jayden didn't particularly feel like getting into. These days, he wasn't sure where he spent the majority of his time, or what he was doing with his life. Almost a year ago, his life had been simpler. He had known every day where he would be, where food would come from, and when the checks would settle in. Even if father had still been in his life, even if his life had been filled with more bruises than it was of recent, it had been something comfortable because Jayden had known about it. But these days? It sent his stomach tumbling into unease when he thought about the loan sharks that might have creeped around the corner, biting down his throat — and not in the fun way. In the way that made him want to vomit into a toilet, because his pockets were empty, and he had a trail of loan letters stuffed into his pocket, most of which weren't even his. [break][break]
Dmitri Volkov had done a lot to his son in his life, but this must have taken the cake. Putting Jayden into insurmountable debt? Even in death, his father still tortured him. [break][break]
Before his thoughts could get the better of him, another patron entered the bar. Jayden stuffed his hands into his pockets to brace himself from the cold wind, dipping his face into the scarf around his neck. He expected the other man to dump himself towards the edge of the bar, or perhaps take up one of the corner booths. Instead, he stomped his way directly to the center, plopping himself down right beside Jayden without a second thought. This, in itself, was not surprising. Jayden had a tendency to fade into the background, and the fact that he was still wearing slacks and his suit jacket from an earlier interview that day only seemed to help matters. He looked like any depressed office worker in the bar. [break][break]
What was surprising, however, was when the man grabbed the second drink that had been dropped between them. Jayden had asked for a second drink only a few minutes earlier. However, the stranger fiercely grabbed the glass and sloshed it down without pre-amble, taking the breath out of Jayden. "Ah..." he said, hand slightly in the air, as if mid-way into an attempt at stopping him. A failed attempt, of course. "That was..." He inhaled. "Mine..." His words trailed off, swallowed by the soft chit-chatter of the bar. [break][break] It wasn't like the other man was about to pay attention to him anyway. Given how lucky Jayden generally was, he would probably have been ignored.
