Adrian was accompanied by a Raichu he'd traded for, gifting away presents to random strangers and passersby as he walked through the route hoping to find some pokemon. A welcome change of pace.

'Why don't you go give them a Present, Raichu,' Adrian gestured towards some fledgling trainers skirting along across from him on the path. As the rat disappeared from his side, he thought he heard rustling off to his side, but when he looked he saw nothing. Could've been the wind, but...

His gut was telling him otherwise.

Adrian had encountered a Pawniard. That thing kind of reminds me of dad's chess set. He'd always have it out and ready for Christmas Eve...

Nostalgia hit him all at once as he's determined to turn away from the creature, disinterested in the specimen, having already traded for one not long ago. Wish I hadn't traded for it in hindsight...

Some annoying birds were beginning to harry Adrian as he continued along mostly unabated, but the constant stream of nosediving Fletchlings was certainly cause for some concern. Alright-

"Eiscue, use Hail." A box-headed penguin appeared from out of its pokeball, causing a flurry of snow to suddenly appear, becoming a nasty wintry mix before marble-sized hail began to pelt the birds indiscriminately. "That'll show 'em...

'Course, the hail hit him, too.

As he stalked around nearly arriving at Foretree, he began to feel a bit lonely. He reached for scruffs of fur that weren't there; a warmth at his side.

Up ahead the brush parts and a Houndoom stalks out, lapping is tongue as it pauses to size up Adrian. Holding up his palm, Adrian backs up before checking for tags. By the look of its fur, Adrian wondered if it wasn't feral after all; it hardly looked like anyone was taking care of the thing.

At least it's not rabid. Maybe I can catch it...

Soon enough a pokeball appeared in his hand, though he was reluctant to approach the Houndoom so brazenly. And yet it hardly seemed fazed until his arm pitched back for the throw.

It tensed, freezing up as the ball hurtled towards Houndoom, securing it in a pokeball. But the canine eventually won free, and darted away.

Dammit...! Adrian follows it in pursuit, following the creature as well as anyone might. And eventually his persistence was rewarded when he rediscovered it huddled within a grotto. Shivering.

It was strange for Adrian to see such an outwardly confrontational pokemon be so docile.

"Sh, sh-shhh... I don't wanna hurt you."

Memories of Howitzer come to the surface, but he is quick to clear his mind. Reaching out to the Houndoom slowly, having exchanged the pokeball for a berry, Adrian tries to lure the pokemon into reach. And it works wonderfully... over time.

After securing the pokemon's trust, he was able to coax it to follow him. But as they cross into Foretree City, Adrian can't help but wondered whether it wasn't more wicked to take the pokemon into his care, knowing the danger he'd put it through, versus current conditions...

...

I'll just have to earn the devotion they show me... ...Sounds like a nice resolution.
