The first rain of the year serves to flush Slateport of all of the trash that has accumulated in its curbs, sidewalks, and sewers since the last great rain. This river of trash travels beneath the city in dark and rank passageways until, ultimately, spewing out into the ocean like a dynamaxed Muk. The following morning, most of this trash washes ashore.[break][break]

As part of his public appearances as Galarian Ambassador, Remiel has volunteered today to help with the clean-up. He walks with a scooper and a rake in hand, flanked by two large Drednaw that use their mouths like trash scoopers of their own. In its monotonous search for litter, however, one of these armored turtles accidentally bumps its side against the back of another volunteer's leg.[break][break]

Remiel takes notice almost immediately, then places a hand over his chest before issuing a short bow. "My apologies. Otis is easily distracted." He explains.[break]

Well usually Noelani wasn’t one to volunteer for things or to be in service to the public but somethings just hit the right notes from time to time. The case of cleaning the Slateport beach from accumulate trash was one of them.

Back home on his island and just in general in Alola it was common to gather and clean beaches especially the ones visited by the tourists. In a way Noelani had grown up with that duty and it was just a natural thing to do for him.

It was because of that Noelani had sort of picked up the job out of habit before he could realize what he was doing really. That’s why he was currently walking around with a bag collecting whatever trash he could find while along side him walked his Bewear holding a similar bag and aiding him with the job. Not too far away with him was also his starter Kala. The Bellossom had her own job and was currently using sweet scent to attract wild pokemon and rope them up in helping with the cleaning as well.

Feeling the bump against his leg brought Noelani out of his musing and made him see who had done that. Humming he then turned to the voice that had addressed him and quickly spoke “Mahh it’s alright Aloha is much the same way.”

He made sure to gesture towards the Bewear to accent his point and just in time it seemed as the pokemon tired to devour a plastic bag instead of putting it in the trash.

The spectacled royal regards the Bewear with an indifferent look for a moment. His Drednaw continue to mow along, in the meantime, eating up whatever trash they fancied as the large bear did the same. "Ahh... I see." He supposed, on some level, Bewear's had iron stomachs just like Drednaw. Though he also wondered whether the plastic bag could present a breathing risk to the mammal.[break][break]

Shaking his head and tearing his eyes away from it, Remiel gets back to work, scooping an empty bottle into his bag. "I've been to Alola several times. From which island do you hail?" He asks, partial to Ula'Ula himself.[break]

Seeing the face of the man Noelani briefly assured him while waving his hand “Don’t sweat it he’ll be fine. I’ve seen Bewears munch on Crabrawler shells and even one that slurped on a muk and walked away just fine.”

Focusing on picking up a few cans near him the alolan also made sure to cast an eye towards his starter to make sure she hadn’t gotten into trouble. So far it seemed she had managed to bring up a few wild pokemon and was chattering them up.

Satisfied with that Noelani instead turned to answer the question “Well I’m from Melemele Island. Though I’ve stayed on most of the major islands. Any favorites from your visits and more importantly tell me did you get scammed while there?” the last part was accented with a grin after all it was almost tradition to try and scam the tourists that visited.

Remiel certainly couldn't say he had a lot of experience with much mammals, especially Bewear. So, he supposed, he would have to take the lad's word for it. It didn't matter to him, anyway. It wasn't his pokémon. Though it was all rather interesting nonetheless.[break][break]

Shoving away some seaweed to get to the crumpled beer cans that hid beneath it, the young ambassador proceeded to fill up his bag even more as his Drednaw slowly flanked him from both sides. They appeared to have taken great interest in eating the seaweed, and continued on to do so without waiting for Remiel to pick it clean of trash.[break][break]

"Hm... I quite enjoyed the Hokulani Observatory. And the Lake of the Moone was surreal. As an archaeologist, I was utterly fascinated. " He recalled the ancient carvings upon the impressive structure, perpetually battered against by the salty brine of the ocean. How he longed to be back there again to do more research. "As for being scammed, well... I had a good guide for my first venture into the islands. But my hotel was robbed once."[break]

Humming Noelani continued to pick discarded bottles of soda a part of him wondering why so many of them were buried in the sand when there was a trashcan not so far away. Though in a way he also shouldn’t after all he was pretty sure part of it was laziness. Not wanting to get bogged down in that train of thought he instead listened to what the other man was saying.

Nodding his head in understanding Noelani just said “You are lucky and should be thankfully of your guide. A lot of tourists get swindled out of everything was even a bigger problem a few years back but it’s been better. Unfortune about the robbery though I am curious did the robbers get away or leave any marks?”

Returning briefly to pick out a few buds of cigarettes he quickly continued “Anyways I would agree it is surreal if not even a bit creepy. Though since you are interested in this type of things, I’ll give you a suggestion if you ever go visit again. A few kilometers off Poni Island is a smallish island. Not a lot on it but most interesting thing is the cave system it has and the hand carved murals on the walls.”

Like the spaghetti in Lady & the Tramp, the seaweed appeared to have reached its limit as the two Drednaw found themselves in a game of tug-o-war for the last of it. Snorts of miniscule aggression erupted from their snouts as they struggled against each other. In the end, however, the one with the larger set of jaws (JAW LOCK) ended up winning out. It chewed on the wet kelp happily as the other slowly turned away and grumbled.[break][break]

"Yes, well... my family spares no expense when we travel abroad. We're more or less compelled to." Remiel answered, finding his bag full and walking over to the nearest trash can to empty it. Another set of volunteers would come around with a cart to recover the bins, then the recycling would be assorted at a different station later. "The thieves were never apprehended, and we never received word back from the Alolan police. But they didn't take anything that wasn't promptly replaced, anyway."[break][break]

Emptying his bag, Remiel turned to regard the section of beach they'd been assigned to clean up. They were very nearly done with their efforts. Moving to go scoop up the vestiges of what litter remained, he acknowledged the lad's tip with an intrigued look. "Oh? Does this island have a name?" He asked, realizing something else shortly thereafter and stopping in front of the volunteer to shake hands. "In fact, I don't believe we've exchanged our own. Remiel Calcifet, at your service." He indifferently nodded.[break][break]

Noelani spared a glance towards his starter noticing the Bellossom imperiously standing on top of Kingler as she directed wild pokemon in collecting all the trash they could see. She was getting frighteningly good at persuading other pokemon to help and the alolan wasn’t sure if he should be proud at how effective she was or worried.

Shaking the thought away Noelani instead focused on what his cleaning companion had said. It spoke of rich blood which would have made sense as to why their hotel was robbed but the fact there were no marks left after the robbery spoke volumes to him. It did also make him cringe inwardly because he was pretty sure he could remember Hanau bragging about readying up a big job and if he wanted in. He had declined at the time having got another focus but well now he knew what it was.

Still, what were the odds of meeting someone connected to that, chance could be weird like that sometimes. He made sure to reassure though “Well It’s good that it was just thieves at the very least. If it was some up start team they could’ve resorted to kidnapping or just tried cause more damage in general.”

Eyeing a bag of chips Noelani leaned down and put it away in the trash bag before speaking “Noelani Kekoa, a pleasure.” Pausing to rub at his chin in thought he would continue “As for the island it doesn’t really have an official name. Mostly because of superstition and having been left nameless on purpose. The hearsay is that supposedly the island carries some bad juju due to having been used to exile people on it leaving them to waste away. Some even say the murals were crafted by such a person yet no remains were found in the cave system. Funny enough though some of us do call it Juju Island due to that.”

The lad's warning of teams was certainly noted. Remiel had encountered a handful of criminal gangs and organizations during his travels. Interpol and local governments did well to suppress such activity over the past couple of years, but it could never truly be stamped out anyway. So long as mankind existed, there would be power-hungry people to prey on the weak.

Team Rocket was, perhaps, the greatest example of that.

"If they'd been smart, and done their research, that would have been quite the bounty for them." He indifferently remarks, watching as the Drednaw lurch away from the beach and towards the volunteer's table on the nearby boardwalk instead. It appears as if they'd had their fill of trash and kelp. The complimentary orange slices seem far more appealing.[break][break]

"Noelani Kekoa, hm..." Remiel reiterates in a mutter after the young man introduces himself. The surname sounded familiar. But as to why, he does not know. The additional information on this mysterious island, however, serves to refocus his attention on the topic at hand. He snaps his scooper up, signaling his completion of the clean-up efforts. The beach looked fairly bare now, anyway. The Drednaw had a good point.[break][break]

"You've piqued my interest, Noelani. Perhaps I can convince you to mark the location on a map for me? I was an archaeologist not too long ago, you see. But I still dedicate my time off to the study. Even if that means traveling to other regions."
