WRITTEN BY Selena DesmaraisEVER GRANDE CITY — A giant fire razed a Church of Arceus last Wednesday, leaving no trace of the religious abode but the ashes, debris, and an arched doorway leading to what seemed its entrance. Witness reports claimed the flames were caused by simultaneous explosions in the vicinity, targeting the infrastructure’s weak spots that caused it to go down. The flames took seven hours to be put out before the beams and columns were lifted to rescue the victims at the church’s basement. Fortunately, no one died during the incident but at least one nun suffered from intoxication due to the smoke. Ever Grande PD has yet to name any suspect but they pointed out arson as the origin of the fire. They believed the incident is a ruse to fulfill the suspect’s objective which is to steal the “Scepter of Creation”—a prized possession of the Arceus congregation. Despite having no conclusive evidence, leads point out to a group of people that gathered the same night to compare the mysterious plates they retrieved from the wave of excavations that happened last November. One of these people, named chryssa glasgow, remained inside the church after the aforementioned meeting. When asked about the fire, she only said that “it was an act of war; an act of God, you might call it.”On the other hand, the engineering department blamed the lackluster materials used in creating the infrastructure. They criticized the lack of government support in conserving heritage sites and bringing them into the modern epoch “where the [heritage structures] can survive amidst disasters that continue to ravage the Hoenn soil.”Chief Officer Marlon Daux promised this will be the last time Ever Grande City will have an incident like this and they will get to the source of the crime as soon as possible.
