As a certified dumbass, Ryuuzaki firmly believes in the idea that water and fire do not mix. While magma and water can create solid murder weapons, water has a 50% chance of killing the fire or making it hell on earth. Given how good he is at getting into trouble, he isn't quite willing to take chances with danger itself.

Or so he says whilst taking a lovely stroll near Mount Pyre and soaking in the ashen atmosphere. Eld looks at him in absolute disgust, his orange tail flicking in the heat as he waddles alongside his trainer. At least it's not Skadi - Thankfully so, Ryuuzaki hums with the knowledge that he's been spared of a harsh frostbite.

But he can never be spared from the pains of human interaction, his footsteps inherently triggering the nerves of a stranger before him. "Just passing by, bud." He shrugs, patting Eld on the back as the Buizel quickly takes to the water. "Grumpy over there fancied a swim." Perhaps, he should have treaded lighter, gone around in the foliage to avoid any contact with others but ideas don't mean anything if they can't be acted upon. Tugging upon his face mask, Ryuuzaki coughs to clear his throat, his eyes trained on the Buizel as he lazes in the cooling respite of the stream.

"somewhat. i've never seen it in person so i thought i'd make the trip."

the water shifts strongly and matias recognizes it to be from something much larger than a buizel. his hand reaches for a pokeball, calling out his electivire: "in the water. not the small one."

channeling electricity into its fist, electivire watches the movement of the water, following it for moments before it lunges with a THUNDER PUNCH. it catches something, causing it to float to the surface. matias tosses a pokeball at the sharpedo.

"what's with the mask?"

The words 'never seen it in person' tell him a few things about this stranger - He's not a native and definitely someone he should look into later. When he tosses out an Electivire, Ryuuzaki is watching closer, tensing ever so slightly as he signals for Eld to create some distance. Thankfully, the Buizel listens, swiftly darting away right as electricity touches the crystalline surface.

"That's one way to catch them, I guess." He squints, kneeling at the water's edge as he beckons for Eld to carry over the poor Surskit that got caught in the mess. "I'm just a little more cautious than the rest when it comes to the volcanic ashes here. Makes me feel sick if I breathe in too much." The pokemon is lifted from the water with gentle hands, soothing words provided alongside a bribery of berries to calm its nerves.

"So where did you come from? You don't seem like a Hoenn native." It's a wild guess with the last statement, but he's willing to take that leap. "I'm Ryuuzaki, you can call me Ryuu though."

electivire sticks a hand into the water and pulls out the floating pokeball. it tosses it back over to its trainer, then turns and resumes position, ready for the next encounter.

"it's a pleasure, ryuu. i'm matias." he'd extend his hand over but he's preoccupied with drying it off after handling the pokeball. he turns and offers a smile instead. "kanto. i wouldn't recommend visiting, though."

"I guess you could say that? I do like observing the wildlife here." He isn't exactly lying about his interest in the pokemon here, Ryuuzaki knows that his interest extends far beyond the regular inhabitants of these woodlands. However, that's something that he keeps to himself. When legendaries seek peace away from humans, they will try their best to ensure that they find their peace.

"Kanto, huh? I used to work there as a vet, till I got transferred to Hoenn, that is." How interesting it is that they cross paths here with the remnants of a region he'd helped destroy. "It was a nice place. Reminded me of home back in Sinnoh…"

Speaking of which, how many years had it been since he's stepped foot in his home town? At least 9? Arceus, thinking about it makes him feel old but that sentiment is quickly shaken off by the muffled cries of a pokemon, his gaze snapping in the direction of the noise as he gets to his feet.

"Search." Ryuuzaki's instructions are sharp with an edge of concern, the Surskit placed upon the ground as Eld dives once more into the water. Soon enough, he returns with the source of the noise carefully cradled within his paws, a paralysed Wimpod lifted up to the veterinarian as he takes the pokemon into his own arms. Though he's sure that Electivire's Thunder Punch wasn't meant to target anything beyond the Sharpedo, the electrified water seemed to have caught this bug off guard.

Sighing, Ryuuzaki offers his Buizel a hand and pulls him out of the water for now, retrieving a cheri berry from his pouch and feeding it to the Wimpod with a little bit of persuasion. "Easy there, lass." He's seems almost at ease when treating the pokemon, waiting for her to swallow the berry and watching for any signs of reaction in her body. Then as soon as he confirms the curing of paralysis, he sets the Wimpod beside the Surskit and lets the two interact with each other. Perhaps, the newfound trust of the Surskit might be enough to convince her to join his team.

"Even in its current state, I think I might visit Kanto again. Just for the sake of the pokemon out there that still need help."

another victim of the earlier THUNDER PUNCH floats to the surface tail-first. known as a delicacy among certain crowds, the wild slowpoke's YAWN does not go unnoticed. it puts them on a timer, which matias has no issues with.

after making sure ryuu's buizel is out of the water, matias nods at electivire, and gestures to the body of water. electricity surges but when electivire slams its fist into the water for a THUNDER PUNCH, nothing happens, perhaps DISABLED from the slowpoke.

matias smiles, nods again, and takes a step back right as a DISCHARGE flows through the water. a pokeball follows.

"i hear the rangers are actively recruiting. you should think about applying."

Until then, he gracefully acknowledges with a soft tilt of his head. The words Matias speaks are ones that ring very true, the encounters he's had this entire week pointing to the movements of a force lurking deep beneath the surface. But he fails to mention it, instead allowing the man to continue speaking over his thoughts. There's no need to involve outsiders just yet.

"Eld." Even if he's caught up in the lull of stagnant life, Ryuuzaki doesn’t quite miss the odd new presence of writhing tentacles upon the riverbank, his left arm subconsciously gripping onto his sleeves as the Buizel moves to answer. Keeping his hands together, Eld begins to create a swirling torrent, his fangs bared as he throws his creation straight into the water, catching the culprit in an unrelenting Whirlpool.

With a dulled wince, Ryuuzaki tosses a pokeball into the mix, noting the colour of the Frillish with mild interest.

"i work for the league and help them train new cadets. but i'm also here to make sure hoenn's safe and sound."

he can hear ripple of space through a VACUUM WAVE. but the crackle of electricity is overwhelming as another THUNDER PUNCH downs the scyther. he turns, then throws a pokeball.

So he meets another law enforcer. Just his luck that he would run into such a figure out in the wilds. They were Rattatas in their own rights, always appearing when he least expected or wanted it but he honestly doubts that a Max Repel could keep them away from him with how many of them swarm this region.

He allows the Surskit and Wimpod to enter the safety of a pokeball, slipping his three new teammates into his pouch as Eld continues to pester him regarding treats for a job well done. He relents eventually, making a mental note to feed the Buizel less for dinner with all the afternoon snacks he's had - Having a balanced diet is important if Eld is to remain healthy enough to help in his line of work.

Several spikes shoot out from the water, a threat promptly countered by Razor Winds as the sea weasel abandons his berry in favour of diving after the aggressor. The water surface bubbles and churns, sometimes even breaking as a gust of air bursts forth but it doesn't last long. A battered Mareanie is soon thrown onto the river bank, earning Eld a noticeable wince from his trainer as he moves in to inspect the pokemon's injuries. While not too serious and the brutal star begins to Recover, he's still rather cautious about it, offering her a few berries to make amends and hopefully not get stabbed in the process.

"I'll probably be bringing this gal and Eld in for a check-up. Not really equipped to deal with poisoning at the moment." A rare oversight on his part but he'll have to focus on what's important, the slight limp in Eld's strides as he pulls himself back onto shore. Pulling his sleeves down to cover any bare skin, Ryuuzaki picks the Buizel up in one hand and the Mareanie in the other, his mind already drifting as he considers what routes he should take to the nearest Pokecenter.
