On his way to meet with a client, long legs carried him down the cobblestone walkways of Rustboro City. Canvas and easel tucked under his arm, and a backpack filled with art supplies slung over his shoulders. He kept his eyes peeled for the address listed in the e-mail.

Xander was already running a bit behind schedule. He'd only been to Rustboro once before. To help the Rangers deal with a hive of Larvesta that had infested one of the buildings. There'd been a bit of a rush to get the job done. So he hadn't had much time to explore. Oh, how he wished he would have.

Late by five minutes, but he eventually found the place. A fancy-looking jewelry store nestled on a street corner. The door chimed as he pulled it open and stepped inside.

"Uh, Sabine was it?" he called out from the entrance, "Sorry I'm late - it took me a minute to find the place."

Was it over the top to assume that Lulu Flint might appreciate a piece of art with her face on it? Probably, but if hse didn't appreciate it, mother probably would.[break][break]

She wouldn't, but Sabine would send it to her anyway. There was a very good chance that she, herself, wouldn't like the art the man she'd hired would create. She was a fickle thing, after all, with an expectation so high not even she could reach it.[break][break]

Countless attempts to capture her likeness perfectly were covered in cloth and tucked aside. Hiring Xander Belmont had been a last ditch effort that worked both in her benefit but also to potentially hire another professional artistic talent for her business. Xander showed excellent skills, but now it was time to see how well he worked under pressure.[break][break]

Unfortunately, he wasn't off to a great start. [break][break]

Green eyes shift to the clock on the wall. Fives minutes late and she already had half a mind to turn him away. In fact, her assistant is already by the front door prepared to send him packing. The young man's mouth opens to greet Xander and deliver the bad news when Sabine brushes past him to stare daggers at the redheaded young man.[break][break]

"A pity that that was the best excuse you could come up with with the five minutes you gave yourself in being late."[break][break]

With a flick of her wrist, she ushers him to follow her to the back. Upon opening the door to her personal gallery of art and supplies, he would see that she is already prepared. Her beloved male Pyroar, gold and crimson in mane, lies regally across the display. He would evidently be a part of the portrait.[break][break]

Her poor attitude is almost enough to make Xander turn around and leave. It's not like he needs the money. virgil roach pays him well for tending the bar. Painting portraits is just a side job to keep his pockets lined with extra cash.

Something compels him to stay. "I'm sorry, you're right. There's no excuse for being late." he's not sorry, but he figures apologizing is for the best.

Xander follows her obediently into the next room. His jaw almost drops at the sheer amount of artwork Sabine has on display. All of it immaculate and expertly drawn. "Wow, you're uh collection is impressive." and makes it clear she settles for nothing less than perfection. That almost makes him nervous, but Xander's confident in his artwork. It's the one thing in his life he's never doubted himself on.

Without wasting any more time, he sets the canvas and easel up in front of the Pyroar. His backpack slides off his shoulders and onto the floor. Eyes shift from the noble lion and its mane to Sabine.

"Just so you know, adding Pyroar to the portrait cost extra. It's also going to take longer. We'll probably be here all day." she likely already knows that. But it wouldn't be very professional of him if he didn't say anything.

Sabine rolls her eyes, evidently not impressed or convinced by his attempt at an apology. But for all of her holier-than-thou attitude, she still beckons him to follow her. Her excitement for what's in store outweighs whatever frustration she might feel for his delayed arrival.[break][break]

In fact, she already has several interpretations of the painting he would be making set aside. Some of half-covered, but most are in full-view. It's clear she's had many attempts that, while beautiful, were unsuccessful. What she needed was an outside eye- someone who wasn't herself interpreting the meaning behind the strokes.[break][break]

Xander's compliment does unanswered- though flattery is a very good motivation to keep her interested. She might not respond with a verbal 'thank you', but she positively swells with ego while she paces around her seat.[break][break]

"That won't be an issue."[break][break]

If necessary, the princess wouldn't hesitate to invite him back throughout the week.[break][break]

Amber eyes fell on the finished portraits on display. A number of them are of the same subjects only in varying styles. They're all expertly drawn, but it's clear Sabine has found some flaw in all of them.

His attention drifts back to Sabine and all her regal glory. "Are there any final preparations that you need to take care of, miss?" he grabs his palette, wooden and large enough to hold countless paints. Its surface is stained heavily with an assortment of colors.

And clearly, she didn't believe that she was it. Years and years and years of studying and practicing and having her art shown in professional settings and she still did not consider herself worthy for Lulu Flint.[break][break]

Sabine drapes herself comfortably in position, eyes half-lidded. Her Pyroar yawns, expressing an array of sharp, pearly white teeth and a rough pink tongue. But together, they both settle into their pose like stone statues.[break][break]
