Izumi could only roll her eyes at the pun that was thrown her way.

Un-fucking-believable.

Thank hell the kids were nowhere to be seen, at least she could let loose with the swear meter and break it.

“Haha, really funny,” she chimed in, giving him another pointed eye roll at his terrible humor before spotting something that had been left behind in the Krookodile’s wake.

There was a teeny little Diglett that came popping out of the ground; looking around before the ground underneath them started shaking with a ferocious Magnitude tremor.

“What the hell?!” she exclaimed, throwing her hands out in an attempt to steady herself. “Where’s the culprit—” she blurted out before hearing a chuckling noise (or what was a chuckling noise) coming from the Diglett.

“Oh you asked for it! Surf!”

Before the Diglett could make a getaway, a sudden wall of torrential water coming from the Swampert came crashing down on it, turning the ground into a mucky mire and all but drowning the Diglett.

“Well, that was quick.”

Another Pokéball was thrown.

“So, should we continue into the deep, dark Unown?” she cracked a few moments later, her own lame-ass attempt at a joke.

Catching Seismitoad which is not actually a Seel

“I knowwwww” the blonde cracked, sticking his tongue out at her in turn. He was, is and always will be shameless about his punnery. No matter how much it drove her mad. While Izumi went off in search of the digging menace, something else had caught Josh’s attention. Was it a Seel? No, it seemed to be… Okay, that was a big frog.

“Heeeere froggy froggy froggy…” he muttered as the Seismitoad would launch a Hydro Pump in his direction. Thinking quickly, he would bring out Bastilo. The Blastoise would use its shell to block the Hydro Pump, before launching another one back and over it, hitting the thing in the head. When Seismitoad would stagger, the Blastoise surged forwards and began a heavyweight struggle. In the midst of it, Bastilo was able to lower its head and use Skull Bash to stun it, and that’s when Josh threw the Poke Ball.

He snorted at her own bad pun. “How far did you have to Diglett for that one?”

While Josh was engaged in ‘Mortal Kombat’ with the ugly-ass toad, another equally ugly-ass Pokémon came trundling in.

“Oh, come on! Not the kissable lips nightmare!” she exclaimed, quickly recalling the Swampert and sending out her Typhlosion, Arashi, in turn.

“Drive it back!” she exclaimed, pointing at the Jynx right as it had closed the distance and attempted to slap the living daylights out of the Fire-type with Wake Up Slap.

A surge of flames from the Typhlosion’s maw, a Flamethrower, cut off the dual-type before it could give a roundhouse slapping session to the Fire-type.

“Yikes!” she exclaimed, flailing her hands in the Typhlosion’s direction.

“Go, go, drive it back!” she continued with a squeal, as the Typhlosion this time rolled himself up into a ball and began the Rollout chain.

Eventually, the Jynx would be repelled—what was up with her getting the weird Pokémon?

Was it too much to ask for a nice Ice-type? Kind of like a mystery gift, come early for the holidays?

Another one caught. This plan to catch more Pokemon for the project had been going smoothly so far, hadn’t it? But even he was beginning to tire, and he had a feeling so was Izumi. Who had happened to wind up facing down a Jynx.

“Be careful not to get licked” he warned during the showdown. But then his expression switched to mischief. “Only I can do that.”

Because of course there was going to be a catch. But he was surprised she had brought out her Typhlosion, and it was a sight to see. The commotion had brought a scavenger of a Snorunt to the fore though, and remembering his Glalie Valor, he had decided perhaps he’d follow Izumi’s example…

“Inferno!” he called out as he recalled Blastoise and brought out his Typhlosion. Inferno opened with Lava Plume to keep the Snorunt from hitting Ice Fang, before quickly switching to Smokescreen when another Ice Fang came around. Putting on the goggles he had used during the gym battle, he was able to see through the smoke just enough…

“There! Flare Blitz!” he called to Inferno, who would follow his point to hit Flare Blitz on Snorunt, and Josh would quickly throw a Pokeball in turn.

“Oh, shut it,” she sassed back, rolling her eyes at his crack—which would definitely not fly if he’d said it with the kids around.

While he dealt with the Snorunt, a Sealeo came clapping after in its wake and immediately proceeded to chuck a burst of water at the Typhlosion—

“Arashi, get back!” she remarked, recalling the Fire-type before swapping him out with her Gardevoir. Instead of the Water Gun hitting the Typhlosion, it instead was diverted away with a well-timed Psychic blast from the Gardevoir.

“Momo, don’t overdo it, okay?”

Right then and there the dual-type countered with an Aurora Beam, to which the Gardevoir countered with a powerful blast of lunar energy—a Moonblast attack!

“What did I say—” she continued with a sigh as she threw another Pokéball at the Sealeo after it had been sideswiped by the Fairy-type attack, ready to tip over and pass out.

Popping an Oron Berry into Inferno’s mouth as the ball dinged and disappeared, he looked around waiting for another possible problem. Speaking of problems, Izumi made a crack at his joke, and he shot her a grin. Of course he wouldn’t say that around the kids… But the kids weren’t here.

“It’s probably best we get out of here, we’ve caught enough and we’ve clearly disturbed their habitat” Josh pointed out as a Trapinch would come out from underground for a bite. Inferno would intercept using Flare Blitz, sending it back underground.

“This one seems more aggressive than the others. Maybe it’s a relative of the Trapinch you caught earlier?” Josh brought up as Inferno would jump in the hole and dig after it. An explosion of icy ground scattered through the air as lava flew out from the hole that had erupted, as did the Trapinch who was the victim of Lava Plume as Josh tossed a Poke Ball.

“I was thinking that, actually?” she mused at the mention of the Trapinches being potentially related. Either it was siblings or mated partners though, she wasn’t sure which.

And then the ugliest of ribbitting noises caught her attention—did it really have to be the same Pokémon again?

She made a face at the Palpitoad, but whistled sharply in her Swampert’s direction to back away from the other; there just wasn’t any worth in that.

Who would love a Pokémon that ugly, anyway?!

Or maybe it was just her trying to avoid catching it…

“Let’s get outta here, I agree—my socks feel extra slimy now because of all the water from earlier…” she added with a grumble as she recalled the Swampert and prepared to get the hell out of the place.
