While her office isn't new by any means, she still stands in it as if she doesn't belong. Like an ugly, re-stitched doll set in amongst the porcelain, perfect centerpieces. [break][break]

She leans against the edge of her desk, thumb picking idly at a dent in the wood. Her agitation has picked off the paint and ruined her nail, but she doesn't appear to notice.[break][break]

Stormy is too focused on the view of Lilycove through her window and deep in thought. She doesn't even notice the shadow beneath her door. She isn't expecting anyone, so she startles at the knock at the door.[break][break]

AN AWKWARD RECONNECTION AMIDST SEVERED TIES

THE DOOR CREAKS OPEN AS DO HIS FUMES. Pink vapor pools around his feet. These isolated puddles extend from his shoes in the shape of his shadow. Fernando’s mastery over his power, presumably his only power, has accelerated greatly since the Aqua Assembly. He controls the MISTY TERRAIN like a muscle, an extension of his being.

These days, there cannot be one without the other.

“Bronwen.”

He stand in the doorway for a moment before proceeding. Despite his signature look, Fernando’s business casual attire is besmirched by the compressions bands peek out from his sleeve and ankles. Thin fabric coddle his joints in a grip that ensures he doesn’t overexert himself.

“Good afternoon.”

For just a moment, the pink vapor leaking beneath the door leaves her bewildered. She blinks, slowly drawing her attention up just as the door swings in. Rapidly, the woman's confusion is replaced with something adjacent to exasperation. She taps her fingers rapidly against her desk as he addresses her.[break][break]

"Is there something I can help you with? I was just about to head out."[break][break]

She is uncharacteristically stiff, and her eyes chart the movement of his misty terrain with some degree of anxiety. It had been quite some time since she'd last seen or spoken to the man in person- if at all. [break][break]

Their last conversation had not quite gone over.. well.[break][break]

Stormy blinks, turning her chin up to face him. She forces down the sudden, vivid memories- no, were they nightmares?- of the influence that pink vapor had held over her.[break][break]

It had been a while since she'd thought about that, too.[break][break]

FERNANDO DISREGARDS HER EXCUSE FOR SQUIRMING OUT OF HIS GRASP. Hoenn’s landscape has shifted for the worst. He cannot her allow her such a freedom. Her illustrious title of Elite Four and Avatar become the shackles that the Silph name could never be.

“They told me you were here so I figure I’d get your Excursion report in person.”

He makes a seat for himself opposite her desk. There’s no need to wait for permission much less ask. As long as the betterment of Hoenn sits under his agenda, Fernando is allowed to throw his weight around at the expense of others. Stormy is no exception.

“How’d you fare?”

Stormy sighs, a defeated, sharp exhale through her nose. The sound is followed by a droop of her shoulders and a frustrated roll of her head upon them, but she relents. [break][break]

And when he relents, he makes himself comfortable.[break][break]

"Not well. We didn't get there in time to prevent Rocket from getting their hands on the monkey-lookin' Pokemon with the vines. But we arrived in time to help it escape and prevent further damage to Fortree."[break][break]

She crosses her arms against her chest, absently glancing over his attire. It lingers on the lack of fluidity in his arms and she is reminded of the news of his most recent hospital stay. It makes her sick, the sudden crash of concern she feels. She swallows, gesturing meekly to his arm.[break][break]

"HMM."

Fernando contemplates the summary of her endeavors. Her brevity covers the important parts, he's sure, but the gaps ooze with questions. What Pokemon? Why? And what did they actually get away with?

He lets them sit on his tongue as he balances what to ask against what he'll actually receive. He doubts Stormy knows much more than that—in her defense, she's never been one to be difficult to work with due to obstruction. Her faults lie elsewhere. Ones that prove much easier to work with contrary to what Fernando may lead her to believe.

"Just short of broken. Team Rocket blew up a workshop on Route 113 after I entered. Eight dead."

She frowns, glancing away following her explanation. There is a name that comes to mind, but it doesn't surface immediately. Everything she could recall had gone into a report, of course, but recalling every fine detail wasn't easy.[break][break]

"I'm glad you're alright."[break][break]

But with that admission, she regards him with a level of discomfort. He hadn't told her- not that she hadn't found out about it. Their estranged, awkward relationship courtesy of her knack for oversharing and expecting too much in return had prevented her from visiting him. [break][break]

And yet he'd come to see her eventually, anyway.[break][break]

"The Pokemon wasn't anything I'd ever seen before. My Smeargle was able to sketch a move it was using though- something else I've never seen. Whatever it was... Zarude, maybe, I heard it called- it was important to Rocket."[break][break]

He doesn’t expect her to be able to answer that. If she does, and it’s more than some estranged guess, color him surprised. But if such a lead existed then he’s sure she’d be tracking it down. For now, they’re ignorant and blind.

“Everything else alright?”

Whatever Rocket’s objective is, it’s only a matter of time until they find out. Like kyle lopez had said, events unfold and information is divulged as consequences arise from their actions. Bothering with it, without a good enough hook, is a waste of time.

Her lack of an answer is followed with a meek shrug. She has no idea why they needed the Zarude's vines, only that they were successful in retrieving them. It would be some time later that she'd run into Killian Decker again to grill him.[break][break]

Stormy is glancing out the window, pointedly avoiding watching Fernando when he prods further. [break][break]

Another tidbit of information bubbles to the surface and she frowns, turning her cheek back to Fernando.[break][break]

"Do you know of a chryssa glasgow? She was with me and another recruit while we investigated that tip-off. According to Elaine Highland, Chryssa went missing partway through, used one of her Zorua to illusion herself still following us on one of my Charizard. I haven't followed up with this information, but perhaps I should."[break][break]

FERNANDO DOESN’T MISS A BEAT. She may avoid eye contact but he drills right through her. The look he gives her is expectant. Prodding. Even if she refuses to meet him.

And when she does his expression shifts into one of confusion. “No,” he answers plainly. chryssa glasgow is a name he’s seen once, months ago, and evaporated from his memory just like every other faceless name that slips onto his front desk. The other? Just as new; pointless.

“But if you think it’s suspicious then follow-up where you deem necessary.”

He pauses before adding in.

“With tact and nuance.”

AROUSING HER SUSPICION IN ONE THING. For him to join in is another. Doing so not only puts both of them into commitment but escalates the case into something much more than a simple inquiry.

His immediate instinct is to refuse.

SHE’S UNCERTAIN. That much is sure. But Fernando cannot be the decisiveness she needs when he too knows little. The only one who can make an accurate judgement is the person there: herself. But that alone does not mean her decision is sound. It just means he has no part in this.

“Why not?”

There’s no harm in trying. Even if it amounts to nothing.

“Just be mindful and think before you commit,” he reminds. Their discussion about Katherine and Selena at Zac’s Gym is still fresh on his mind. He hopes it rests in hers as well, a lesson to be learnt.
