Locke sighed again, staring up at the canopy of leaves wistfully.

The forest leading to Rustboro was pretty enough, the lush green flora dappled gold by the sunlight filtering down and teeming with life. De-De seemed to enjoy it plenty, despite the overgrown woodland being a far cry from her natural habitat, investigating every bush and bramble with an almost child-like interest. But the verdant wonderland of Petalburg Woods just couldn’t hold Locke’s attention in the same way, as their gaze drifted ever upwards to the eclipsed skyline.

Maybe he should’ve summoned Ji-Ji to fly over the patch of trees.

A commotion suddenly started up ahead where De-De had disappeared. He could feel the wind start to chill from where he was several feet behind, filling him with dread as he approached.

Behind the shrubbery and undergrowth, a small Gulpin sat frozen to the ground in the aftermath of De-De’s Freeze-Dry. The penguin in question was happily munching on a berry, no doubt stolen, in front of her immobile victim. She had to be only creature alive that could out-glutton the literal Stomach Pokémon.

“De-De! That’s just bullying,” Locke chided as they collected the little thief, who only polished off her prize in response. Feeling a little guilty, they then pulled an orange from their bag and placed it in front of the poison Pokémon, leaving it to try and wriggle its way out of the icy prison and towards the snack.

Locke ran away!

Locke wasn’t the only one who’d sensed the sudden drop in temperature De-De had caused. They’d hardly left sight of the struggling Gulpin when a very tired and very agitated Crobat descended on the pair, having been unceremoniously awoken from its daytime slumber by the cold. It bore down on the Delibird, fangs dripping with venom.

“Hurry and give it something else to bite on!”

De-De produced a Present from her tail and tossed it in her assailant’s direction, the gift wedging itself in the Crobat’s wicked jaws before it could close them around the penguin. It ticked for a few seconds while the bat struggled to dislodge it, until-

BOOM.

The blast knocked the aggressive Pokémon clean out of the air, and Locke tossed his Pokéball at it before it could rise to retaliate.

Locke attempted to capture the Wild Crobat!
