Rowan didn’t know much about Matias Silph, aside from the weight that their surname carried in the region, unlike his own. “Nice to meet you.” Rowan called out as he approached his section of the underwater arena, standing on the opposite end from where his opponent was positioned. This specialty battling stage had been set up for the two trainers to oversee a battle that took place entirely in the water, a specialty of his. “Hope you brought some water-types.” A smirk was spread across his face as he plucked one of the Pokeballs from his belt. “Cause I brought plenty.”

Tossing the Pokeball into the water, Rowan brought his Kingdra onto the field, opting to choose his Pokémon first since he had an obvious advantage. “Panzer is looking forward to seeing what you’ve got.” The Kingdra swam circles in the water below, showing off the innate agility that their species possessed.

it's a precarious arena, one that he has little experience fighting in. but it matters little. they'll adapt as they always have.

he cracks open a pokeball, revealing his choice. out of pure instinct and training, an ICICLE CRASH shoots out towards the kingdra, signifying the start of the battle.

“Cloyster, nice.” Admittedly, Rowan was slightly jealous. He’d been trying to get one of those Pokémon for months now, with little luck. “Panzer, dodge with Dragon Dance.”

A purple energy gathered around the Kingdra, suddenly propelling the Pokémon to move faster. Icicle Crash landed harmlessly in the water where the Kingdra had once been, swimming elegantly through the water as though it wasn’t even there.

at its trainer's command, cloyster's tough shell begins to crack. SHELL SMASH enables it to move quicker, allowing it to keep up with the hefty speed of the kingdra.

Rowan was beginning to see that Matias was a capable trainer, seeing as he didn’t teach his Pokémon with a series of attack moves, opting for utility as well. “Shell Smash, smart.” Admittedly that was making him nervous, knowing that this man wasn’t some over-confident novice. “Panzer can be a hand-full sometimes, he likes to shoot first.”

On cue, the Pokémon released a Dragon Pulse into the water. Circles of the same purple energy rippled through the waters and looked to slam directly into the Cloyster with the shockwave. “Suppose we’ll see how fast Cloyster is, now.”

a DRAGON PULSE ripples through the water, traveling right for the cloyster. no orders need to come from its trainer for it to know to react on its own. this is a battle and it knows it needs to survive.

cloyster takes the DRAGON PULSE, damage surging across its shell, and it counters by forming an ICICLE CRASH right next to the kingdra. it spikes, looking to impale.

An unconscious smile crept across his face as the Dragon Pulse struck the target, effectively damaging the Cloyster. Delight was short-lived as he saw the ice beginning to form immediately beside Panzer. “Move!” Unfortunately he was too late to react, watching as the Icicle Crash struck Kingdra. “Fuck.” Rowan gripped the sides of the battle stand until his knuckles went white, needing to think of an effective counter.

“Panzer, use the water to your advantage.” The Kingdra seemed to understand what he was intending, beginning to swim around the arena in a wide circle, gaining speed rapidly. Soon the waters became a Twister from the energy and speed that was kicked up by Panzer, looking to sweep the Cloyster up and toss them about.

"do the same."

as a TWISTER comes swirling towards cloyster, it remains stationary, and in return, the water around kingdra starts to shift, too. a WHIRLPOOL looks to engulf the dragon-type.

Using whirlpool was a smart retaliation, forcing Kingdra to keep the Twister going and take damage or abandon the attack and swim to safety. “Retreat.” Rowan commanded and Panzer obliged, purple energy gathering around the Kingdra once more as Dragon Dance was once again used to empower the Pokémon.

Further strength and speed allowed Panzer to break free from the pull of their Whirlpool, however leaving them vulnerable for a follow-up attack from the Cloyster.

[attr="class","matias"]cloyster remains in place, head still spinning from the lingering effects of the TWISTER, but it doesn't need to move to form another ICICLE CRASH that shoots out at the retreating kingdra.

but matias knows they can do better.

Matias and his Cloyster were relentless, though Rowan didn’t expect anything less from what he’d seen so far. An icicle crashed into the side of the Kingdra, forcing them off course momentarily.

“Steady. Concentrate on your opponent.” Rowan guided, and Panzer listened. The Kingdra came to a complete stop and turned their body, honing in on the Cloyster with Laser Focus.

an ICICLE CRASH shoots out once more, cutting through water with such speed that it almost creates a pocket of air. again, cloyster remains on the move, following after to close the distance.

Once again Kingdra was assaulted with the crashing of piercing ice into their hide, beginning to show the wear and tear of the battle as the damage had accumulated over time. “You got this, destroy them!” Rowan shouted out, gripping onto the rails of the battle stage as he became consumed in the heat of the battle.

Panzer charged the familiar purple energy in front of his snout, though the volume was different this time, more powerful than the last. “Now!” A massive blast of Dragon Pulse rippled through the water as the energy was unleashed, forcing water up and over the sides of the water tank.

PROTECT forms, wrapping around cloyster right as a DRAGON PULSE rips through the water, sending some over the sides of the tank. the crowd seems to fall into a lull, though none of them boo just yet.

Rowan should have expected the nullification of his attack, especially since the strength behind the Dragon Pulse was noticeably powerful. “Damn it.” Teeth clenched together as his mind raced, attempting to figure out what he was supposed to do next. “Alright, we can recover from this.”

A click of the tongue indicated his next move, a trick he’d learned from Gavin. Another Dragon Pulse suddenly rippled through the water, looking to strike the Cloyster once more and hopefully catching them off-guard.
