greyson connors from their one mission together. his memory proves correct as he approaches, stepping to his side of the battlefield. he notes the rillaboom, and though it would've been so easy to call out a counter, he decides on one that makes for a more entertaining fight.

hitmonlee eyes its opponent, then shifts into a stance. its eyes narrow in a MIND READER.

"good luck!"

at his command, hitmonlee bursts off the ground, springing forward for a BLAZE KICK.

"matias! long time no see. what're the odds huh?" he smirks. "well, good luck to you too!"

the rillaboom nods in greeting to his opponent.

then the battle begins.

penn doesn't wait for orders, he reacts to the fighting-type's charge. crossing his arms in an x formation, he takes the BLAZE KICK front and center. his fur singes with the contact and he grunts in the pain and effort.

before it can push off however, he reaches out to grab it's leg with a gorilla grip. a bellowing SCREECH emanating from his maw at point blank range, followed up by a destructive WOOD HAMMER using his free arm.

[attr="class","matias"]the flames from the BLAZE KICK linger even after the rillaboom grabs its leg, gorilla grip tight. they float up its leg, transferring over to its other on the ground while a WIDE GUARD blocks the WOOD HAMMER, causing it simply bounce off.

similarly, hitmonlee bounces off its other leg and swings another BLAZE KICK against rillaboom's body, then uses the impact to spring back, creating distance.

as hitmonlee kicks off the ground once more for another BLAZE KICK, penn once again brings across another WOOD HAMMER. this one is not intended to strike at the grappled hitmonlee, but to act defensively against his kick. the two would meet inches from rillaboom's body at a thunderous stalemate.

meanwhile, still held in his powerful grip, rillaboom ENDEAVORS to send the hitmonlee flying with a half-spun toss. should he be successful, the grass-type roars in challenge.

[attr="class","matias"]there's nothing the hitmonlee can do in time to block the ENDEAVOR. it hits, smacking it far back before it lands. the sand acts as a cushion, lessening the impact and it's what allows it to spring back to its feet, ready for more.

matias recognizes the tells, understands.

"i'd dodge this if i were you, greyson."

hitmonlee starts running, tucking its arms behind its back for efficiency as it focuses its MIND READER. before it even nears, it springs off the ground, jumping forward to deliver a HIGH JUMP KICK, boosted by its RECKLESSNESS.

greyson laughs in defiance. in excitement. 

"i think you're the one that should dodge this! play us a beat penn!"

it was a common misconception that a rillaboom needed to use the drum on his back. it just provided a little extra thump.

he didn't need that quite yet.

powerful hands mimicked a DRUM BEATING against his chest. penn sent his will into the earth around him, a massive wall of vines surging upwards from the ground. he sent the living earth a picture, but gave it freedom to act as it wanted. a force of nature unleashed.

once the wall was completed, blunted vines shot outwards at the approaching fighting-type.

but he wasn't done.

from all around him, tendrils began to emerge, ready to ensnare him in a trap of his own making.

[attr="class","matias"]HIGH JUMP KICK meets resisting vines that slow their approach. hitmonlee braces through the pain, holds, and watches as more vines start to ensare the area.

naturally, its leg catches on fire, and it springs forward once again to deliver a BLAZE KICK.

the hitmonlee surges past the vines in a trailing blaze of flames. the wood cracks and turns to cinders, fading into the shifting sands. his foot connects with the chest of the rillaboom, forcing him backwards into the sand with enough force to leave grooves.

penn breathes heavily, sporting a blackened footprint on his muscled chest. with a grunt, he calls upon nature, a fleet of RAZOR LEAVES covering the distance between the two. as it does, his SCREECH aims to throw the fighting-type off of his game.

[attr="class","matias"]a lanky arm raises to shield itself against the barrage of RAZOR LEAVES that fly past, drawing blood as it cuts into skin. a SCREECH rings through the air, lowering defenses; hitmonlee's arm drops slightly, but the shift is quickly used to propel itself forward, legs igniting in flames once again as it springs forward to throw two BLAZE KICKS.

what was the definition of insanity again?

another wave of RAZOR LEAVES race towards the incoming pokemon, and he meets both BLAZE KICKS with a single WOOD HAMMER. hissing grunts accompany burning pain.

[attr="class","matias"]the earlier SCREECH proves to be the deciding factor.

hitmonlee miscalculates, assumes more than possible, and quickly succumbs to the pain from the WOOD HAMMER that sends it flying back. it slams into the ground, unconscious.

"hm."

recalling, matias switches it out for his next choice.

"nice work, greyson!"

greyson recalls the rillaboom, smiling in matias's direction.

"thanks. it was a good fight."

with matias tossing his choice out, greyson follows with his own. the nine foot tall pokemon regards the sea leviathan with cool interest. then, the battle begins.

a HAIL begins to pour from a cloudy sky, while an arc of THUNDER WAVE pours out of her maw to paralyze her opponent.

in one fell motion, gyarados drops to the ground, immediately coiling to summon a WHIRLPOOL that wraps around the aurorus. the THUNDER WAVE hits, paralyzing after.
