“Interesting.” Rowan approached the starting position of the face with an eyebrow cocked, immediately recognizing the half-covered face of Razz Kingsman as his opponent. “Good to see you again, been a minute.” The last meeting between the two of them was rather intense, their attempt to persuade him to leave Rocket had been convincing but ultimately he wasn’t able to accept.

There was no contempt or ill-will towards the Ranger, in fact Rowan happened to like the other man well enough, but that didn’t mean he was about to go easy on them. “You ready?” He stepped onto the back of his Blastoise, clutching onto their shell with a smirk spread across his lips. “I’m going to smoke you, if you let me.”

There was a tiredness in his eye as he road up on his Empoleon. Apparently one of the judges for this race didn't believe his whole blindness and thought it cheating for him to have his Meowstic on his shoulder to make up for his lack of depth perception. And now he's up against someone he failed to deter from Team Rocket. [break][break]

He didn't hate the other for it, but he hopes they're able to do what they must and get out quick. "Hope you haven't been up to no good," he jest tiredly but unlike him his pokemon much more psyched for the race. Salem preforming jumping jacks on top of Azulon as if he were the one racing. Though it was clearly more to get the penguin pokemon more psyched up as if their trainer wasn't someone had to be. [break][break]

The Rotom Drone in charge of recording the race comes between them. ~Remember good clean fun~ it reminds them before waving its hand. [break][break]

“More good than you’d think.” Rowan offered a soft shrug in response, though he was sure the Ranger wasn’t liable to believe him anytime soon. As soon as the signal was given for the race to begin, Blastoise took off through the water with incredible speed and force, though lacking the grace that an Empoleon may have. “Make sure to keep that one off our backs, Aku.”

The Pokémon grunted slightly in response, understanding what was being requested of them. A bright energy gathered around the twin cannons that sprouted from the Blastoise’s shell, suddenly spinning around and firing off a twin set of Flash Cannon blasts towards the water around Razz Kingsman and their Pokémon, looking to slow them down more than injure. “Nice!” Rowan gave the Blastoise a reassuring pat on the shell before clinging on once more.

The ranger just gives a hum for a response, experience making him unable to trust it. Though he try to believe in the other for now. Empoleon is quick to start, but neither pokemon nor trainer miss the way the other turns to try and attack. Rather than allow it to hit the water the penguin pokemon decides to counter with HYDRO CANNON. Both attacks clash and a shockwave is created pushing them back some but Azulon was no quitter as he decides to dive into the water to avoid the shockwave to try and avoid it. [break][break]

They wouldn’t be able to attack again, but neither should the other so they could just focus, Azulon returning above water after, hoping to not be too far behind.

“Keep up the pressure, Aku!” Hydro Cannon exhausted the Empoleon for the moment, leaving a serious advantage for himself and his Pokémon. Another eruption of Flash Cannon streamed across the field of water, though missing the target entirely. Choppy currents caused Aku to misdirect their blast and destroy one of the many buoys that marked the path of the race, plastic and metal scattering into the water before sinking below the waves.

“Good try.” Rowan wasn’t hard on his Pokémon, and they still had the advantage for the time being, no need to be stressed or upset. “We got this, Aku.” Staying the course for the time being was enough to pull ahead from the slowed Empoleon, discordant waves would only make the job more difficult.

With the Hydro Cannon wearing down his Empoleon there was no move to counter the FLASH CANNON. Thankfully for them though it was high off target, and the attack only destroyed a few buoys on the water track they were to follow. Azulon had this though as they would do what they could to ride the waves and the choppy water. [break][break]

Needing the time to recharge, Azulon couldn’t attack again, for now all Razz could do was hang on. ”If you need to feel free to dive down,” as underwater was less dangerous than others.

Distance was gained on his competitor and Rowan was beginning to feel more confident than ever. “Alright, we got this Aku.” An energy gathered on the twin barrels of the Blastoise, though this wasn’t intended to be used for Flash Cannon this time. “Slip and slide, mate.”

Ice Beam rippled forward across the water in front of them, creating a sheen of frozen surface for Aku to slide across. Blastoise retreated their arms and legs into the shell as soon as they hit the ice, scraping and sliding across the frozen surface with the intention of giving themselves a burst of speed.

Seems like Azulon hadn't completely recovered from the need to use the previous Hydro Cannon. Every since their first attack the other had been ahead and the penguin pokemon has yet to catch up. A small chuckle escapes him as he doubts they'll be able to catch up, but he knows his pokemon is far from willing to just quit. He gives a whistle and water engulfs them in water as Azulon uses AQUA JET to give them a little extra burst of speed.

Ice Beam carried them far but the use of Aqua Jet helped close some of the gap between the two Pokémon, Rowan would have to be slightly more creative. “Turn backwards and use Hydro Pump, both cannons.” Aku glanced backwards with an arched brow but would ultimately comply with what was asked of them.

Blastoise spun around backwards and unleashed both barrels attached to their back, using the intense burst of water to rocket them both forward across the racing field. “Hey there!” Rowan waved towards Razz with a cheeky grin on his face, pleased to still be ahead of the ranger.

There is a small amused ‘hmph’ as the other seems to just wave so nonchalantly. Though seeing as they’ve been dominating in speed since the beginning. Even after needing to use AQUA JET to avoid the problem that was the HYDRO PUMP. [break][break]

Though now both competitors had gone around the buoys and now it was a race back to land, ”Don’t get cocky, might be a mistake,” there is some amusement in his tone. As doing something like this was so much easier than a battle.

Rowan couldn’t help but being cocky when he had such a commanding lead, he was a rather competitive individual after all. Blastoise was rapidly approaching landfall and with Razz unable to close the gap, the shell breached the sandy shore and declared Rowan the winner at the end of the line. “That was pretty fun, I got to admit.”

He hopped off Aku and allowed the Pokémon to push themselves onto two feet, shaking some of the water and sand off their form. “Good job, Aku.” A hand dug into the pouch on his belt, tossing a treat towards the Blastoise who deftly caught the food between their jaws. “Nice race.” Rowan stepped over and reached a hand out towards Razz, attempting to show sportsmanship with the gesture.

With them finally on land again Razz breaths a sigh of relief it's finally over. It wasn't like he didn't enjoy it, but it was still tiring. Empoleon was pouting at the lost, but seems to be a decent sport about it as he congratulates the Blastoise. [break][break]

Meanwhile Razz removes his wind jacket to help shake out the water. He rather remove his headband to get the water off that, but he wasn't comfortable enough around the other to reveal his scar. He stares at the hand for a minute before he finally reaches out and shakes, "Ah yeah nice race," he says awkwardly, not being the most social type. His aura definitely different than when he spoke to the other a few weeks ago. [break][break]

“I mean, the tortoise usually beats the hare in the story, don’t they?” Rowan chuckled slightly, somewhat glad that the Ranger didn’t seem to hold his affiliations against him. He’d attempted to make Razz see that Team Rocket was nothing more than a means to an end, though he still wasn’t sure if the other man believed him. “Aku and I have been training for a few weeks now, he was one of my more stubborn Pokémon when I first got him. Isn’t that right?”

Amber eyes glanced towards the Blastoise, who seemed unamused at the implication, turning their head towards the open ocean before them. “We’ve almost got a bond going, now.” Rowan now looked towards the Empoleon, reminding him of the change that Mistral had recently gone through. He was going to be one of those Pokémon one day, strong and majestic. “You doing actual battles in the tournament too, or just competitions like these?”

The ranger looks at him confused at first because Azulon was not a hare. Though it takes Salem shaking off the water from his fur as if he were some type of dog. The little shit knew what he was doing too as the black cat seemed to go evenly between both trainers. "Brat," he grumbles but Salem just gives an angelic face. Faking innocence's as he gives a 'who me?' type of look.[break][break]

"Training for weeks? What for this event?" he can't help but question, curious. [break][break]

"And I've done a lot of battles, but I've come to prefer these as its less strain on the mind," he shrugs, "Allows me to be less tired when I do missions later in the day"

    “In general, mostly.” Rowan couldn’t exactly come out and say the reason he wanted his Pokemon at their strongest, especially since they were employed by the League. “Can’t say that the timing wasn’t ideal, though.”

    A red streak of light returned Aku to their Pokeball before stowing the capsule away on his waist. ”I was sort of on a losing streak myself until I did this race, starting to think that I should participate in more side-events.” Rowan chuckled slightly, turning towards the arrival of the competitors for the next race.
