let alone one from kanto; he's heard tales of them his whole life. to finally see articuno up close is invigorating, fulfilling, and empowering.

a STONE EDGE slaps against charizard, knocking it off course. it cries out in pain, then immediately shoots high up into the air to avoid the sudden blast of BLIZZARD.

cold winds billow, temperatures swiftly dropping.

to counter it, heatran bends heat and lava, swirling it into a powerful MAGMA STORM that bursts from the depths of the volcano, looks to trap articuno.

The Magma Storm attack makes the Articuno retreat temporarily into the cover of the clouds, screeching its displeasure.

“Damn, I hate this heat, honestly,” he grumbled as he raised up a hand to slick back the hair that had fallen into his face for a few moments.

“Fucking feels like the circles of hell a—”

Another loud rumbling shook the area as the Heatran slammed all of its feet down in a wide-scale Earthquake tremor attack. The entire area trembled as the waves of seismic energy rippled throughout the space, before another loud roar from the Heatran came, issuing a challenge.

“Hell,” he hissed, before the Articuno appeared once more from the safety of the cloud cover, flapping its wings before—

“Brace yourself!” was all Lars had the time to shout as the entire area was blanketed in a temperature-dropping Sheer Cold attack; an attempt to counter the terrible heat.

While he knew it wouldn’t stick because ice was weak to fire, the Articuno had had it with the Heatran showing off.

sweat rolls off his body, soon evaporating under the intense heat around them. he shifts on his feet to gather his balance, holding strong against the EARTHQUAKE that rattles across the volcano. he sees earth cracking and if they're not careful, it could compromise and crumble beneath them.

"UP."

charizard roars, shooting up to barely avoid the SHEER COLD in time. the end of its tail is wrapped in frost that quickly melts as it parts through a cloud, heading back down towards the heatran.

"SMOKESCREEN."

smoke billows, spreading to surround heatran. it buys them some time as a STONE EDGE erupts, missing all of them entirely.

matias turns to lars with somewhat of a plan.

"we can fuck with its vision and continue to blast it with your ice attacks."

“Sorry!” he exclaimed as he saw some bits and pieces of frost form on the Charizard’s tail as the land around them, for the briefest of seconds, became a winter wonderland.

And then a few moments later it all melted into water.

How the shit was the Heatran unfazed by all this?!

Lars’s features creased into a frown for a few moments, before the idea was pitched.

“That works. Should we drop it back into the magma?” he asked, before the Articuno let out another displeased screech, and this time let loose with a surprise Ice Beam attack, circling around and attempting to catch the Heatran unawares from behind.

imagine the paperwork they'd have to do if heatran somehow caved in a part of mount chimney. he'd make lars do most of it, of course, but still.

the ICE BEAM connects, catching the heatran off guard. it retaliates and sends another round of LAVA PLUME flying through the air; one smacks against charizard's chest, sizzling, but it's been through worse.

charizard closes the distance, swooping down to deliver a strong SLASH that knocks the heatran back. slowly, it starts sinking.

The deity did a sharp turn in mid-air, turning to face him.

“Back into the magma it goes!” was all he said, before the Articuno let out a displeased shriek at the incoming Lava Plume which it had barely managed to evade in the nick of time by flying higher. The higher it was, the harder it would be to hit, right?

Anyway…

Remembering most of what the deity had at its disposal, there was one more attack… well, shame the Heatran wasn’t part-Water, because it would’ve hurt a lot. Either way.

A sudden crash of icicles came dropping down on the Heatran, intent on dropping it back into the crater of Mount Chimney where it belonged. The Freeze-Dry wasn’t as effective as it normally should’ve been, but this was one stubborn deity present.
