BEHIND CLOSED EYES IS A SEA OF PALE ORANGE. The sunlight proves harsh enough that it illuminate the skin of his eyelids, leaving him to adapt as he tries to squeeze in an untimely nap. Whatever sleep lurks beneath his unguarded consciousness is rudely interrupted by a face full of cold water.

Fernando does not react at first. Nerves of steel cause him to remain motionless as his mind registers the sensation. A single swipe of his hand is enough to wipe away the water from his eyes before he opens them against the curtain of summer daylight.

“Alomomola,” he calls upon, slapping his hand against the water to garner his Pokemon’s attention.

When it surfaces, it obediently fires off its own water gun. A much more voluminous spray of water cuts behind large rocks, buckets full of water coming down near Stormy’s location.

ONCE CAN BE CHALKED UP AS A MISTAKE. Twice makes it intentional. There will not be a third time without punishment. And for his mercy, Fernando is rewarded with a stream of cold water as Stormy nails another shot against his helpless body. It’s enough to get him to roll over on his side, no longer floating as he treads water in place.

Underneath, his feet flap wildly, a distress signal hidden by the ocean’s depths.

Their little spat escalates into a small but recreational battle as the Alomomola is battered by the sudden QUICK ATTACK. In its defense, Fernando’s Simipour surges forward with a doggy paddle of its own. The Pokemon makes hasty as it wriggle closer toward the Alomomola and Vaperon, looking to LICK the aquatic mammal with a PARALYZING saliva.

HER CALL TO ARMS IS MET WITH A DEFINITIVE ANSWER. As sure as the cameras above seize the details so to does Fernando grasp the reigns of the situation.

“Battle routine set!”

While the two trainers remain relatively isolated on the beach, his three words incite excitement from those who watch from Slateport Stadium. A television broadcasting their fight advertises the casual battle between Gym Leader and Elite Four. The fact that they’re siblings only sell the battle as a ‘must watch’ for those unfamiliar with the pair.

“Execute!”

It’s mostly for show—the battle’s already underway—but it’s symbolic for him.

The sight of her PARALYZED Vaporeon spells well for him as their Pokemon continue to duke it out underneath the water. From the camera’s vantage point, all they can see is the shadows moving about.

Kingdra’s HYDRO PUMP forces the Simipour away as it tumbles from the concussive force. The freeform nature of underwater combat leaves the Pokemon dizzy as it tries to position itself upright again. Fernando’s Alomomola looks to the Simipour, concerned, WISHING for its recovery.

Nearby, Fernando’s Marill starts to swim closer to the action, almost parallel with the speed of Stormy’s Seismitoad.

WHEREIN THE ALOMOMOLA LACKS THE APTITUDE FOR BATTLE THE MARILL DOES NOT. As soon as it crosses the distance between the groups of water Pokemon it immediately launches itself at the Kingdra. All its strength comes to the surface as it SUPERPOWERS through in a rushed tackle.

TWO UNSTOPPABLE FORCES COLLIDE. One proves much less unstoppable than the other. Stormy’s Seismitoad, empowered by the common appearance of its brethren in her Gachapon, easily overpowers the Marill. Its DRAIN PUNCH is used as a fulcrum to drive it back and back onto shore.

But Fernando’s Pokemon won’t allow that to happen without contest. As sure as they take turns jumping into the scrap, so too does the Simipour come to its ally’s aid. While the Marill is unable to fight back, the Simipour charges at the Seismitoad, looking to drag its claws against it with FURY SWIPES.

FERNANDO IS LESS THAN ENTERTAINED BY HER ANTICS. Granted, his measure of patience is much higher for those unacquainted with his actual personality. But no one—bar a child in public, perhaps—can coerce him to play along with such child’s play. Especially not when it interrupts his free time.

So, instead, he up’s the ante. MISTY TERRAIN sinks into the ocean water around him. It spreads in the same manner piss scatters in a pool. From a bird’s eye view, spectators get a hint of what’s to come.

A well aimed DRAGON PULSE snipes the Simipour from a distance. The blast peels the Pokemon off like an overdue bandaid. It hurts like hell and leaves the Pokemon flinching as it tries to steady itself. Unable to assist by any offensive means, the Alomomola fires a HEAL PULSE at the Simipour, helping to prevent it from becoming nauseous.
