The warehouse is dark and smells of damp, rotting wood and briny ocean spray. Gavin wrinkles his nose against the cloying stench of death; not all of their agents had been gentle in acquiring the product. He makes a mental note for his report.

He's here to inspect the waterfront operation, accompanied by Dr. Pryde to help assimilate the other into the Hoennian Rocket branch.

"A fair amount of force is required," he explains, stopping by one of the cages. "It could be a good way to practice with your prosthetic without worrying about overdoing it."

Field work wasn't something Pryde was used to. Even before his time in jail, most his time was spent in the labs, especially after his promotion to head scientist. However he understands that if he is to remain useful while he couldn't be in the labs this was what he was going to need to get used to. [Break][break]

"Not if you know what you're doing, he comments as he opens up one of the cages for one of them. Thankful in this state they were still slow allowing for pryde to put his prosthetic on the mutated shelder's face as the rotom discharged electricity from his hand to apply direct pressure forcing it to let go and for the Slowbro to devolve as pryde head the shelder in his medal arm. [Break][break]

While trying to figure out strength was still difficult the rotom definitely made task like this easier with it.

the air was thick with dejection. men and women alike watched through security feeds as pokemon were subjected to deevolution. it was a process, greyson was informed prior to being assigned the mission, that was likely 'incredibly painful.' and here they were watching it happen to dozens.

he clenched his fists, feeling the nail dig into his soft flesh. greyson was reminded of the gardevoir incident— that had been a complete shit show. the others looked to him expectantly, but he ignored them. he needed to be prepared this time. mentally, physically and emotionally.

with a heavy breath and a resolve as steeled as an aggron, he gave the command.

Gavin watches with a mixture of scrutiny and respect as Pryde's prosthetic arm delivers an electric shock through the Pokemon, forcing the Shellder to release its hold. It's painful for both Pokemon involved, no doubt, but that didn't concern the underboss.

What concerned him was efficiency.

"Mm, I'll make a note of the electricity's effect..."

He's moving to the next row of cages to inspect their occupants when a loud crash sees him pivot sharply on his heel. Doors burst open moments before a Rhyperior slams through the eastern wall with the force of an oncoming train.

Gavin's reaction is immediate, almost instinctive.

Miasma surges from him, swirls around him, and Rocket's underboss releases two Pokemon in tandem: a Breloom whose maw drips foul poison, and a feral Sandslash whose icy spines seem to trap shadows within.

A sharp whistle echoes through the warehouse.

"Rockets! Stand your ground! Drive them out."

Breloom ingests its own TOXIC saliva, BADLY POISONING itself thanks to its CORROSIVE properties. A shimmering SAFEGUARD from the Sandslash provides an omen for what is to come.

the wall comes down in a thunderous explosion, tank's body ripping through the metal like it was paper. he announces his presence two-fold: the first being the wall, the other being a deafening roar of challenge for all those inside. greyson steps up beside him, a hand going to his shoulder, resting on the SOLID ROCK plate.

"by order of the league, you're all to be placed under arrest for crimes against pokemon deemed cruel and unusual."

before his words even finish, a gaseous substance begins to spread and creep around the field and another voice echoes behind his.

an officer.
[break][break]

this individual could spell trouble for the cadets and lower-ranked officers under his purview. it would be up to him, then.

"you have your assignments. carry them out!"
[break][break]

that left this officer, or executive to him. he moves to approach when something buzzes in his ear— a message.

'we have confirmation that gavin merlino is on site. merlino is confirmed to be the avatar of lugia. proceed with extreme caution."

greyson holds his ground, teeth grinding in thought. the league officer reaches down and releases two more pokemon— an alakazam and delphox.

"seven, get the pokemon out of here. autumn, tank— we hold the line."

[break][break]

seven nods, moving to a nearby slowbro's enclosure, placing his hand on it, and TELEPORTING out. meanwhile, delphox and rhyperior begin their own preparations. a SCARY FACE aimed in the direction of the two pokemon, and a LIGHT SCREEN that surrounds nearly all allies in the vicinity.

Gavin's lips curve into a cold sneer at the thought. The League would not take him alive.

A flash as a Pokemon teleports off the scene sees Gavin purse his lips in dissatisfaction. That wouldn't do. A Claydol appears at his side, IMPRISONING its own moves against further use: including teleportation.

"If you've got a brain in that skull of yours, officer, you'll sound the retreat before anyone gets hurt."

A blistering cold wind shudders through the warehouse, rattling windows and scattering HAIL. CLOAKED by a combination of miasma and SNOW, the Sandslash becomes all but intangible.

Gavin remains where he is, Breloom at his side. He clicks his tongue, and it fires a glob of TOXIC spit toward the Delphox.

"This operation doesn't concern you."

when seven re-appears to haul another back to the safehouse, he finds himself IMPRISONED from doing so. the alakazam narrows it's eyes at the claydol in annoyance. he moves to his trainer, with the other two.

"i can't do that, gavin."
[break][break]

violet eyes fall onto the delphox, and with a nod, gives her permission. the blistering cold of hail that threatens to turn this place into a freeze locker, begins to rescind, as it becomes a SUNNY DAY. blistering heat that prickles the skin pours through the hole in the wall, silhouetting greyson in it's illumination.

as the TOXIC closes distance, it becomes hued in magenta as seven's PSYCHIC captures it in mid-flight and returns it back, though this one was aimed directly at the sandslash.
[break][break]

meanwhile, his rhyperior begins to gather rocks from within' the holes of his arms into a giant boulder half his own size, tossing the ROCK WRECKER directly at the breloom.

"this operation, as you put it, is a crime. quite a disgusting one, too. therefore, it is my concern."
[break][break]

greyson's eyes narrow on the man, refusing to back-down.

Ah, this one recognized him.

It's not as if he was trying to hide his identity, with the miasma spilling through the room. Still, the mention of his name prompts a quirk of his lip.

"Can't, or won't?"

A sharp click of his tongue as sun battles snow.

Toxic spit spatters across Sandslash's spines, to no effect thanks to its earlier SAFEGUARD. It leaps to the defense of the Breloom and intercepts the Rhyperior's attack with its own PROTECT.

The air shimmers as Claydol BLOCKS any hope of HEALING.

Breloom flicks spores from its tail that expand into SEED BOMBS aimed toward the Rhyperior.

"All Pokemon exist for the glory of Team Rocket." There's an amused lilt to his tone as he parrots Rocket's motto. "These are no different. If you know who I am, then you know what I can do. I have no desire to hurt your men."

He feels a tug in his mind, a presence acknowledged as it closes in.

"But if you hurt mine, well, I would only be defending myself."

time wasn't on his side. he had to think of something.

empowered by her SUNNY DAY, autumn responds in force finally. she retrieves her wand from beneath her dense fur, and summons a torrent of MYSTICAL FIRE in the direction of gavin and his pokemon. explosions create a small, concussive force from within' as the SEED BOMBS are consumed.

a REFLECT surrounds the large group, layering itself on-top of the LIGHT SCREEN from earlier.
[break][break]

again, rhyperior summons a ROCK WRECKER, tossing it at the clustered pokemon. greyson needed him nearby, as frustrating as that could be.

"your arrogance will be your downfall. if not today— tomorrow, or the day after. you can only hide in the shadows for so long."
[break][break]

greyson's voice echoes across the warehouse, booming above even the other battles happening.
[break][break]

"RETREAT!"

not every pokemon can be saved.
[break][break]

already, he sees a number of cages being carried off, or disappearing in flashes of light. they'd come here to arrest as many as they could, but the appearance of an avatar made that nigh impossible. he'd need to hold the line while they retreated. he would hold the line.

How annoying. [break][break]

Pryde can't help but think, while with Gavin here he doubts they'll lose he does cover up part of his face with a face mask. Habit more than anything as they were ordered to stand their ground. Raph is quick to call out his pokemon attacking against a few cadets ta first making sure to protect their prize. While Having delt with what seemed to be the main problem.[break][break]

At the order of retreat for them Pryde was about to make a snap for his pokemon to keep going until he See's Gavin's sign and stands down. At the mythic fire aimed at the underboss Pryde would order his Runerigus to cover the underboss tanking the flame.[break][break]

"Is this for the best?" he can't help but question more because in Kanto they would've jumped on this retreat not stand down.

Gavin clicks his tongue.

As Pryde's Runerigus blocks the worst of the flame, a swirling BLIZZARD whispers through the warehouse to contend with the rest. Ice and fire collide with a violent hiss that scatters damp mist to mingle with Gavin's miasma.

He shakes his head and makes no comment on his arrogance.

He does, however, let out a sharp whistle when Greyson calls the retreat.

"Stand down. Let them go — not the Pokemon."

Should any League officers attempt to leave with the Pokemon they'd wrested from Rocket custody, they would be forced to give them up one way or another. They'd already managed to escape with enough, and Gavin wouldn't willingly compromise the operation further.

But he had vowed to honour a retreat, and he does.

"Let it not be said that we've returned to the bloodthirsty ways of our past, Pryde."

Outside, the vibrant sunlight clouds with RAIN.

"There is no need to draw their attention further."

Pryde just tilts his head, "Looks like adjusting to new ways will also have to be factored in," he comments off handedly as he knows adjusting to field work was a problem, but he knew protocol. Fight, kill, win. But seems like here was different. [Break][break]

His pyroars would growl at a leaguer who got to close, he would make sure to snap to ensure she didn't attack until told otherwise. as was the new way it seemed.

"Make no mistake," says the underboss, amber eyes trailing a member of the League as they reluctantly retreat from the advance of his Sandslash, "should they have stood their ground, there would be no mercy."

He found no joy in bloodshed, but he would not hesitate.

Rain batters the warehouse, windows and broken doors rattling under a violent gust of wind. Greyson Connors would know the cause of the sudden gale as shadow Lugia erupts from the surf, dark wings casting shadow as the corrupt legend swoops overhead. THUNDER rumbles, but Lugia does not attack.

It circles, twice, then lands on the roof with an impact that makes the building shudder. Red eyes gleam as if daring the League to come any closer, spiked tail lashing.

They dare not approach.

Thank you.

Gavin's gaze flicks to the roof, then back to Pryde.

"We'll finish the inspection and tally our losses before returning to HQ."

Now that sounded more familiar. Pryde looks up as the wind picks up as the same pressure from the sub can be once more felt here. He doesn't think he won't stop being facinated by such a creature.[break][break]
