Extortion was Killian's bread and butter. He'd been little more than a pup when he started, an ambitious thirteen-year-old with a ravenous curiosity and nothing to lose. Things were challenging but simplistic back then. Longing for that nostalgia is what brought him to Slateport's night market.

A business owed Rocket money, and Killian was on his way to collect.

Espeon rested on his shoulder like she always did. Just him and her tonight as it had been in the good ole days. Good but not great. They'd need Alexandra Briarwood around for that to be the case.

The door to the shop chimed as Killian entered. It was a quaint place that sold trainer items and accessories. Still early in the evening, the shop had a few customers browsing the products. Killian did the same. Moving through the aisles casually while he waited for the owner.

It was Jayden's first mission with Killian Decker .

[break][break] The emotions he felt at that moment were not quite nervousness, nor trepidation. Jayden had been on plenty of missions in his life-time tenure in rocket; it would have been ridiculous to be worried about this one in particular. But the boy did not yet know the admin, nor his training style, and as such, it brought a certain level of doubt to the scenario that he was unprepared for.

[break][break] Killian had, after all, only risen to his current rank while Jayden was out of commission. Who knew what he thought about the matter?

[break][break] Dark settled over the quiet that was the SLATEPORT NIGHT MARKET as they approached, his Umbreon heeled loyally at his side. He followed the other into the business, the soft jingle signaling their entrance.

The owner steps out from a room behind the register. In her hands is a small tower of boxes. With a sigh, she sets them down onto the counter. A middle-aged woman pushing into her late forties, her raven hair is tied into a messy bun. She glances around the store with heavy eyes.

"Alright folks, it's closing time."

Her voice is hoarse like a woman who smoked one pack too many.

Customers make their way to the exit, the door chiming as they leave. Killian remains, however. Browsing the store's limited selection of X-items with a far-off look in his eyes. Once the last patron leaves, he glances in Jayden's direction. A subtle nod signals for him to lock the door.

"You hard of hearing or something? We're closing."

"No, I heard you. The thing is..." Inteleon shimmers into view behind Killian. Usually watching over Alexandra Briarwood to ensure her safety, the admin required his talents tonight.

A heavy Mist pours out from Inteleon's feet and down the aisles. It fills the store, obscuring them from prying eyes. Killian's hands slide casually into his pockets. Across his lips, a devilish smile spreads. The feline on his shoulder purrs, her eyes glowing dimly behind the fog.

"For us, you're always open."

[break][break] Jayden bites his lip. He hopes this won't go over too poorly.

"We're Rocket, and you owe us something."

The woman swallows, her eyes dart to Jayden and then back to Killian. "Oh, right. I knew I forgot to do something." her lips tighten, and she pats the stack of boxes.

"I ain't got the money. I spent it on restocking my wares. If you comeback next week, I'll have it for you."

An unacceptable answer. "You said the same thing two weeks ago." danger nips at Killian's tone despite the smile on his face.

"Oh, did I? Shit. Well, it doesn't change nothing. If I don't got it, I don't got it. What are you going to do? Kill me?"

"Hardly." he nods to Jayden, "Why don't you show her what we'll do."

To anyone else, it might have struck with a bit of irony that Jayden of all people was being chosen to complete what was essentially loan shark business. After all, hadn't he been on the opposite end of the knife, more times than he could count?

[break][break] A soda can is pulled from the counter top, crunched in his hands like it is paper. The dagger that cuts through it is smooth, like butter. Shadows flicker around the room as his Chandelure materialized into view, from seemingly nothing. SMOG seeps from the latter like black smoke, poison curling at the feet of the unfortunate woman and her employees.

Fear's written across her face. Worst things than death? Killian couldn't have said it better himself. The picture they're painting is becoming clear. He can see it in the woman's eyes.

She shifts, the poison at her feet uncomfortable.

"Fine, you win. I'm too old to be picking fights with thugs like you, anyway." she sighs and heads to the register.

"Oh no, we want more than money." a smile. "You've caused a lot of trouble, miss. You'll need more than cash to make up for it."

She blinks, "Like what?" her burrow furrows as her eyes narrow.

"Half your current supply of Poke Balls and X-items."

[break][break] One of the other employees - a short man with sand-dusted hair - speaks up. He's obviously still young - immature - but the upset is written all over his face. He looks affronted, that Killian Decker would even dare such a thing.

[break][break] A look from Jayden however silences him, the flatness of his glare more deadly than the knife that had sliced through the can moments ago. Someone else, probably an older employee, grabs him. Her hand wraps around his mouth as she drags him into the backroom, hissing something that sounds oddly like Tommy —

[break][break] Jayden's gaze slowly slides over to the shop-owner, who's face is pinched together between indecision and anger. To her, this is unfair. To her, this is audacious. Giving over her stock of pokeballs and x-items would completely destroy their stock —

[break][break] It's indecision. And there's no room for it, not in Rocket, not anywhere.

[break][break] "Ma'am, each action comes with equal consequence."

[break][break] Maybe she just needs a little push.

Killian nods and smiles, "Excellent. I'll have someone stop by to grab the goods shortly. We'll take the money now." bills are counted and stashed into an envelope and hands to the admin.

"Don't be late next time." he turns, nodding to Jayden, and heads to the door.
