The ancient draconid village he'd left behind a week ago hadn't left his mind since. Each night had been spent thinking about it obsessively, wondering if some imbecile treasure hunter was in the process of desecrating it in that very moment. Eventually, he couldn't take it anymore. The archaeologist in him yearned to go back, no matter the cost.[break][break]

So, when he could finally break away from his duties as ambassador and admin for a weekend, the royal packed a bag, dressed appropriately for the underground excursion, and set off to go find the ancient site once more. Thankfully, he knew Mt. Meteor well enough to gain his bearings fairly fast.[break][break]

Before the sun fell, he managed to find the one entrance to the underground village that hadn't been closed off by mugen . With an Archen named Albian on his shoulder, the Galarian carefully made his way down a rocky slope. Before long, he found himself on a cliff overlooking the hidden village: an expanse of stone huts and two to three story buildings, with a crater site near its center.[break][break]

So far, there was no sight of the Regidrago or the Claydol that had guarded the area.[break][break]

She plays a dangerous game, a child that treads the line of adulthood and comprehends the cruelties that her hands may be forced to commit. Led by dreams that threaten to dissipate without the slightest of warning, a cruel reminder of the tales she carries on her shoulders sows a seed of curiosity in her heart and beckons her to clutch onto the rumours floating about.

Armed with nothing but a backpack of emergency supplies, camping gear and warm clothes for the possible wind chill coursing through the ancient site, Eris grips the mane of her faithful Luxray, silencing her steps as they enter the cavern mouth to the supposed underground village. The trip down the slope is a little perilous but nothing too harsh for her to handle when aided by Reiner every step of the way. Soon enough, they stand before a stone hut, fingers delicately tracing over the scars left by years of isolation as Eris breathes in the atmosphere.

What secrets do these ruins hide? What tales remain unspoken and preserved through the passage of time? What would her mother have found if she'd been here? Her camera and notebook sit securely in her backpack, waiting for their chances to shine as the duo begin the chip at the mystery that lays before them.

Albian leaps off his master's shoulder and scouts ahead, gliding down the rocky slope that the ambassador carefully descends on foot. Controlling its own descent, the little Archen sweeps across the neighborhood and over its plethora of stone huts and buildings, chittering lightly as its large eyes flick to and fro. It's looking for potential threats. It's looking for food.[break][break]

Remiel, in the meantime, finally manages to reach the border of the ancient village. Albian hasn't released his alarm just yet, so he pulls out his drawing pad and charcoal pencil, proceeding down the main street. He's moving towards a courtyard he believed he'd seen the last time he was here. Though he stops on occasion to sketch the unique design of some of the buildings.[break][break]

The sound of crumbling rock and dripping water echoed throughout the massive chamber. Albian hardly heard anything beyond it. But, before long, the prehistoric bird caught the brief swish of a tail before it disappeared behind a building. Curious, the Archen glided in its direction, perching itself at the corner of a three-story buidling to see... a little girl and her Luxray?[break][break]

The bird tilts its head, unsure if a little girl was worthy of alarm.

Though tattered and whimsical, unspoken stories often lie in what can be observed. She kneels at the riverbank of knowledge, her eyes tracing the scars left on these structures as her hands sketch the sight she beholds. What lays underneath the surface of this crystal lake? Who lived here and why did they vanish? Curiosity beckons her to step closer to the doorway of a building, attention flickering through the darkened rooms within as she tries to snatch whatever details she can.

But it doesn't last for long, her gaze flickering towards the sky when she senses eyes upon her back. Reiner takes notice of the additional presence too, his mane beginning to crackle with energy as he curls closer to Eris. However, it's in his nature to await the girl's reactions and respond accordingly, a small sigh escaping his snout as he watches her reach into her backpack to retrieve what seems to be a poffin.

Is it some kind of guardian of these ruins? A pokemon lost in these confusing parts? Or perhaps, she isn't quite alone in this place... Regardless, Eris lifts the poffin up to the sky, waving it gently as if tempting the Archen to come get it.

If anything, befriending it may be the best course of action to take.

Avian pupils dilate as they lock-on to an offered poffin. A treat? Outside of master's prescribed regimen? Its taloned feet step anxiously as the Archen looks cautiously about for a moment. Master hadn't been alerted. Who knew how long it would take master to find them, it reasoned.[break][break]

Deciding it would, in fact, take this offered treat, the Archen swooped down from the edge of the roof. When it reminded itself that this could very well be a trap, however, it perched itself just above the doorway overlooking the two instead. Suspicious eyes narrowed on the Luxray. But if the little girl called to it, it would dive down to perch itself on her shoulder instead.[break][break]

A creature's wariness around humans arises from interactions with other humans. She recognises the way it flutters and hesitates to approach, even when greeted with the prospect of food. However, she can't quite be sure whether it's because it's been bribed before as a guardian of these ruins or it's simply been trained by another person... If she is to believe the latter option, their trainer must be nearby.

"It's okay, I don't plan on hurting you or destroying this place. You can have this poffin, no strings attached."
[break][break]
Talking doesn't always prove helpful when pokemon don't understand the words she speaks but she finds herself graced by the Archen's presence regardless. And it seems like second nature to her, allowing the bird to perch upon her shoulders and snatch the treat right from her hand.

"Have you been here all by yourself? Archens don't usually dwell in such places... Well, since they were originally deemed extinct of course but... Anyways, how's the poffin?"

The Archen is in the middle of unceremoniously scarfing down the poffin whole as the little girl asks it how it is. One could almost assume it was choking as it tilted its head upwards and attempted desperately to work the muscles in its throat, gagging with unblinking eyes as it scrunched its neck up and down. 'SQWAA!'[break][break]

"What's this then, Albian?"

[break]

It's his master's voice that turns 'eating' into actual choking, and the Archen flutters off of the girl's shoulder before landing on the ground and hacking up the half-dissolved poffin. It carefully picks it back up with the tip of its teeth before waddling it away to a corner of the ruin to nibble at it.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Remiel Calcifet stands just beyond the entrance to the building, a single hand resting idly in his pocket as he raises a brow at the little girl standing before him. "This is no place for children. Are you here with your parents?" He placidly inquires.[break][break]

"I'm not a child! I'm a full-fledged legendary researcher!" It's nice to meet such questions with confidence, even if it's not the entire truth! The more confident you sound, the more convincing it'll be to others - Or so she's been taught.

His question about her parents going completely ignored, her Luxray cautiously curling his tail around her arm in anticipation of a throwing of hands. Nothing is ever predictable when it comes to a rowdy Eris.

A fully-fledged legendary researcher? The announcement brings the hint of an amused smile to the royal's face. "Oh? Then surely you'd know who Albian is named after." He responds, crossing his arms. It would be unfair to expect a small girl to know of such an exclusively Galarian legend, of course, but she seemed confident enough one way or another.[break][break]

Remiel notes the Luxray, at first believing it is preparing itself for any attack from him. When he sees its tail wrapping itself around the little girl's arm, however, he reconsiders this thought. And he wonders exactly what kind of child this is.[break][break]

"I'm a certified archaeologist, actually," The black-haired man answers. "So there won't be any need for your kicking of my ass... unless you have a grudge against academics." He says, looking past her into the building beyond. With a glance and the gesture of a nod, he adds: "Have you given this ruin much of a look yet, little one?"[break][break]

"The princess Albina? Or like... the derivation of Albion?" Truth be told, she doesn't know the entirety of Galarian legends or lore. Those were stories that had yet to be fully discovered, even by the intrepid explorer and legendary researcher that was Lenore Halla herself.

"I don't really know... I mostly know mythos and legends surrounding the pokemon!" Cheeky, a smile finds its way onto her face. She recognises the occupation he asserts, a small glimmer of awe sparking in her eyes as she gives him a lookover once again. "I haven't gotten to explore these ruins in its entirety but there's a lot of questions I have already! Like... what kind of people used to live here? What did they believe in? The Super-ancient pokemon? Maybe..."

As she continues to overwhelm herself with thoughts, Eris finds herself pausing for the briefest of moments to find an empty space within her notebook to jot them down.

Oh? Surprising. This one had certainly done more reading than just Dr. Seuss books. "The fact that you know of Albion at all is quite fascinating. I'm impressed." He replies with a smile in his eyes.[break][break]

Albian, in the meantime, finishes scarfing down his poffin before he flutters back onto the royal's right shoulder. Remiel reaches up with a finger to gently scratch beneath its chin as he walks about the interior of the ancient building. "Well, there's still a lot about the Draconid people we don't know... but, through my research, I hypothesize they worshipped beings with Primal Energy. Legendary Pokémon, in other words. One of them seemingly made its presence known here, not too long ago..."[break][break]

Stopping to briefly glance at the writing she did in her notebook, the prince smiles. She reminded him of himself at such a young age: exploring the catacombs of Hammerlocke with journal in hand, when his nanny had sternly told him, many times, not to. Though those adventures would later result in the grand discovery of the ORDER OF OBSCURA.[break][break]

Dropping to a crouch in front of her, so as to meet each other on eye-level, he seeks the Luxray's approval with a silent look before he extends his hand for a little shake. "My name is Remiel, Eris. Nice to meet you."[break][break]

"I know lots of stories! I just... don't always understand them." There is both pride and sadness in her words, almost as if she's reminiscing the times where she'd stay in her mother's embrace and listen to stories long until sunrise. "I keep them all in my notebook, so I don't forget them and I can update them whenever!"
