"Okay, we each get 700 square feet and 10 minutes," Zac said, as he drew out the boundaries of the castles, scratching straight-ish lines in the sand with his pointed stick. "After that, meet back here and we start the fight, deal?"

Zac spun around, kicking off the sand and almost losing a flip-flop as he sent out his team. Kev the Steelix, REM the Flygon, Zappa the Heliolisk, and Odium the Tyranitam. Those three were the core of his defense. Legends with rock, sand or soil, and consummate gurus when it came to construction. They'd built a few sandcastles in their time, that was for damn sure.

Kev burrow downward, before returning with chunks of stone and hard packed sand. This formed the foundation of their castle, a set of rocky tiers that pushed the base upwards. Zac may have set a square footage, but there was no limit on height.

Odium and Zappa set to work with Stone Edge, Bulldoze, and Sandstorm, shaping the raw material into walls, parapets, entryways, and even a central tower. REM used Boomblast to compact the walls of the structure, before moving on to blasting squiggles and line-art of Zac and his team all up and down the walls.

Ten minutes later they were ready.

700 square feet... When she truly thinks about the sheer size he's allocated to be her domain, Eris can't help but feel a rush of excitement through her veins. With her hands shoved deep into her pockets, the team is assembled through split second decisions -

On building duty: Twitch, her trusty Galvantula with her Electro Webs and Hati, the beautiful Glaceon and his ability to freeze the foundations of wet sand. On offense: Pepper, Zen and Terra - The Unholy Trinity of mass chaos. On defense: Belle and her ability to keep things Wrapped together!

As they begin to pile the sand together, Eris tosses some stones into the mix, using additional materials to fortify her fortress as Hati glues them together with a Freeze-Dry. When it comes to imagination, sky's the limit. Though in this context, it really might both figurative and literal. The higher her towers scrape, the stronger the foundations must be made, the walls quietly decorated with legends as Eris snaps quick pictures of her mighty creation.

Looking over her opponent's masterpiece, she can't help but feel a little saddened to destroy such wonders. Then again, sand castles can always be rebuilt, bigger and better than ever!

"Time for the attack!" Zac shouted, pointing a plastic spade at Eris's castle. "First wave!"

Zappa the Heliolisk and Davenport the Minior set up a thick pair of Light Screens at the front of their castle, to turn away any ranged attacks.

Odium the Tyranitar turned the wrath of his Sandstorm on the space between the castles, whipping up a ferocious, grainy gale that carved away at the ground. It was impossible to see through.

Helen the Camerupt and REM the Flygon joined forces to make the sandstorm even more impassable. With Earth Power and Sand Tomb they transformed the area into a churning, chewing, whirlpool of sand and rock. Hidden by the sandy veil, it would be all too easy for a careless attacker to be pulled right in.

Under cover of the sandstorm, and behind the screens, Kev the Steelix Dug downward. He burrowed deep, deep under the sand, before making his way stealthily towards the enemy castle. The surprise attack from underneath. Perfect.

No mercy for the unprepared! As soon as she spies the plastic spade being swung in her direction, Eris is whistling with a broken branch twirling in her hands.

With the violent sandstorm whipping up, the grounds before them is deemed impassable through physical means. And yet, Eris and her team won't quite be stopped! Terra lets loose a stream of fire in hopes of Incinerating her foes while Hati unleashes a Blizzard. Zen blindly throws in a Dragon Pulse of her own whereas Twitch shoots an Electroweb. Pepper, on the other hand, begins to prepare a Shell Trap for any unseen ambushers.

And yet, despite all of the excitement pouring from her teammates, Belle still Yawns, chiming softly as she twirls herself around Eris' shoulders. Perhaps, she won't be sleepy for long?

Flames, Blizzards and Webs, oh my! Amid the enhanced Tri-Attack of elemental attacks, chaos reigns. The ice mixed with Zac's sandstorm, creating a churning, icy mass, like a big Dairy Queen Blizzard.

The Electroweb splatters the front of his castle, stringing gooey, slowing barriers across the front. Thankfully, Zac's front line were mostly immune to paralysis. All aside from Tyranitar, who roared in annoyance.

"Okay, time for the kickback!" Zac said, and his team roared. REM zoomed towards Eris' team, getting battered a bit by the the icy sandstorm before diving in to bombard the enemy with a BOOMBURST!

Tyranitar struggled against the paralysis and the webs, barely able to move forward.

Kev unburrowed beneath Zen, slamming upwards with his huge, metal head.

Zac, meanwhile, he grabbed Davenport and made a mad run for Helen. He shoved the Minior into one of Helen's volcanic humps and, as practiced, the Camerupt knelt down. Now she was aimed at the enemy castle.

"ERUPTION!" Zac shouted, and Helen squeezed her core, blasting out a jet of magma that sent Davenport soaring right into the enemy castle. "Hell yeah!" Zac shouted, as Davenport slammed into one of the inner walls with a satisfying crunch. The Minor, now spilling deep blue light from its exposed core, shook the castle, shaking its foundations with EARTHQUAKE.

All hands on deck! Boarders ahoy!

She might not be commandeering a ship at the moment, but she's currently holding front row seats to a castle invasion. With Flygon attacking the castle from the skies and Steelix invading from down below, Eris just barely notices the flying Minior that crashes into the castle.

Of course, she doesn't lose her focus, especially not when she's under the pressure of losing to someone else! When she whistles, she's signing to her team, tugging her jacket closer to her body as Hati begins to counterattack with yet another Blizzard on the invaders. Terra follows up by Headbutting Zen's attacker, allowing the Dracozolt to regain her balance and rush towards the Minior. Then with a hard flick of her tail, she tries to Slam Davenport away from the walls and out of the castle.

As the trio fight back against their attackers, Twitch is crawling towards Pepper, setting off his Shell Trap and launching herself deep into enemy territory. Once she's firmly latched onto a wall, she's shaking things up with a Bug Buzz, loosening the sand with the harsh vibration of her wings.

With how chilly the castle interiors seem to be getting, Belle doesn't seem all too happy dealing with guests. Instead, she welcomes them with an aggressive hug, trying to Wrap REM up if only to stop the ruckus.

"Bloody hell! Invaders!" shouted Zac, unknowingly echoing Eris's sentiment from the other side of the battlefield. "Odium! Get 'em outta here!"

Odium was slow and jittery, but that just gave him more time to line up. He growled, a deep, resonant rumble that broadened until he sounded like a lase canon powering up. Twitch's Bug Buzz shook apart a rampart, which collapsed on Odium, only for the sand to be blown away a second later in a wave of white heat as his HYPER BEAM carved a path through Zac's castle!

Kev's body shuddered and rang with the headbutt, and the cold set into his joints. He was already cold steel but the combination of YAWN and BLIZZARD had slowed him to a crawl. He closed his red eyes, ASLEEP and FROZEN.

"Kev! Now!" Zac yelled, slapping the MEGA STONE on his wrist. Crystal blue light tore through Kev's body, and his eyes flew open. They were the blue of buried glaciers. Pillars of crystal ruptured through his steel body, and an aura of metal and gemstone slashed at the enemies around him. Kev reared up, and brought himself down on Terra with an earth-shattering HEAD SMASH!

Belle's WRAP tangled REM, and the Flygon made a clumsy landing. He BIT at the annoying little wind chime, trying to pull it off so that he could take flight once again. Every knew that air-superiority was nine tenths of every battle.

Davenport was nestled snuggly in the castle wall. As Zen SLAMMED him with her tail, the mischievous Minior gave a placid smile, and EXPLODED.

It's one thing to stand outside the battle field, it's a complete other to be part of the battle. As sand sprays in her direction, Eris finds herself shivering due to sheer cold. Getting a hot chocolate after this seems like such a good idea, but she'll have to think about it once it's over!

"Let's kick things up a little!"

With one threat successfully neutralised for the time being, Eris turns her attention to the rest of the enemies. A whistle tells Hati to Freeze Kev Dry as Zen stumbles away from the Explosion. As Belle refuses to let go of the Flygon, she attempts to Confuse him in response to the Bite. The Dracozolt then follows up with a Dragon Tail to drive tREM right out of the castle.

All seems to be well until the Steelix mega evolves in their midst, shaking the frozen structure as he Smashes his Head against Terra's. Even as the Darmanitan cries out, she hits back with a Superpower, aided by Pepper and his Flamethrower.

On the other hand, Twitch seems to be having the most fun, Discharging waves of electricity as she skitters around the castle.

Tyranitar fell back, panting. He took shelter under the broken ramparts as waves of DISCHARGE crackled across the castle. When he was recharged, he firing off another HYPER BEAM at the skittering Twitch!

Meanwhile, Zappa was chasing the spider across the walls! The Heliolisk BULLDOZED chunks of the wall, trying to shake Twitch's footing and dump the bug into the path of the HYPER BEAM.

Helen the Camerupt trundled towards Eris' castle. This was endgame, and the mobile volcano ERUPTED, raining flaming chunks down on Terra, Pepper, Hati, and Zen.

Kev was tearing things apart. His aura of steel and crystal slashed at any enemies who got too close, cutting Terra as the ape attacked. He met the SUPERPOWER head on, clanging and crashing as he struggled against the unrestrained force of the primate. Battered from the fight, Kev DUG down, away from the onslaught, avoiding most of the incoming FLAMETHROWER and FREEZE DRY as he fled underground.

REM shot confused DRAGON BREATH, covering himself in the painful, azure flames in a last ditch attempt to get the bell off him!

Rule number 2 of Eris' group of discordance, when committing chaotic actions, always remain light on your feet and ready to run! As the Tyranitar aims his shot, Twitch is running full speed ahead, Furiously Cutting at the structure and zigzagging in her dodges as the laser tears through the castle. Even though she's running out of stable ground and eventually gets hit by the laser, she's knows she's done quite the good job. If you're gonna go down, why not make your opponents suffer a few losses while you're at it?

As flaming chunks rain down upon them, Eris hesitates in calling out to her team, images flashing through her mind as her breath hitches. Hati is quick to take control of the situation, barking loud for the rest of his team as they hop right to it.

Zen and Pepper begin to blast REM with Dragon Pulses, allowing Belle enough time to unravel and begin Healing herself. With Kev having Dug his way out of sight, Hati and Terra know that they're in for the ride. As the Camerupt appears on the horizon, the Darmanitan is rushing to greet her with a hearty Headbutt.

Hati, on the other hand, has a different move up his sleeve. His Coat begins to shine like a Mirror, allowing him to deflect most of the falling debris back at Helen. It wouldn't be the most effective but it was most definitely better than letting this castle burn.

This was it. Bottom of the ninth. As flaming sand and chunks of volcanic ash rained down on Zac, he watched as furious bugs and Hyper Beams cut swathes out of his castle.

REM went down, and Helen met the raging Terra head on with a skull-shaking TAKE DOWN that Zac heard from his castle walls. It was a mess. A glorious, fantastic, joyous mess that filled his belly with laughter. "Hey Eris! How ya holdin up?" Zac called to his friend. Her castle wasn't looking much better than his, but it had taken much less friendly fire.

Zappa was busy at the castle gate, frantically putting up LIGHT SCREENS to try and block the MIRRORED ERUPTION. Odium was exhausted, slumped against a wall near the fainted bug he had just defeated.

That left only Kev. Underground, the Steelix was still alive and kicking, and still in his mega form. Zac stamped on the packed sand, signaling for his best mate to pull off one last, daring attack.

The sand shuddered, and Kev burrowed back upwards as he STEEL ROLLED through the sand, whirling like a 40ft long, solid steel Beyblade. If he emerged uncontested, his metal and crystal aura would cut some heavy damage into what remained of Eris's castle.

Pokemon fell like dominoes. First Terra was knocked out by Helen, and then the volcanic cow was taken out by Zen!

Meanwhile, in Eris' based Kev finally reverted, his mega energy expiring just moments before he was taken down by the combined might of his opponents. he went down in a flaming heap. Even a tough monster like him could only take so much punishment.

That left Zac with two Pokemon: Odium and Zappa. "Okay guys, how are we feeling?" Zac asked. Odium looked at him with dull eyes. The Tyranitar was not up to battling. The double Hyper Beam had left him all but fainted. "Okay Zappa. And you?" The Heliolisk chirped. He wasn't confident, but he was willing.

"Let's go then!" Zac shouted, and the pair sprinted off towards what was left of Eris' castle. "Zappa! BULLDOZE!" Zac shouted, and his partner raced forward, collecting sand and rocky debris to form a plow in from of himself. The wedge broadened, and like an icebreaker heading right for a massive iceberg, Zappa crashed into the castle.

Oh no, she wasn't gonna let things end like this! Pressing her fingers against her lips, Eris whistles loud and clear. Zen rushes to meet the incoming threat first, attempting to slow their plow with a sweep of her almighty Dragon Tail. Belle helps in her very own way, holding onto Eris' arm and leading her away from the collapsing parts of the structure.

On the other hand, Hati leads the charge on Zac's domain, clearing the way with a merciless Blizzard as Pepper follows suit. Once the Turtonator is settled in, the charge is set and the gym leader's fate is sealed.
