This was defiantly a different one for Mav. And if anyone knew Maverick, they would be shocked if not traumatized to hear what he was about to do. Maverick wasn’t the type to play games especially anything related to sports. Yeah, he worked out every now and again to keep his health. But this, this was different.

Making his way down the beach, a voice rang out that got his attention. Warm colored orbs flickered over a friendly man and his team waving him over. “Oh hey,” he replied, assuming this was the person he was to meet up with, “The name is Maverick.” As he approached, it was clear by the twisted expression on his face that he was still confused as to what type of battle he was doing. The person who notified him explained it, but the man was still puzzled.

Reaching into his pocket, he summoned three pokemon. The first was an infernape, next lucario, and lastly machamp. All have been brief on what their trainer thinks they are doing today. Once on their side of the field, the man turned to Zac. “Uhhh… I think we are ready when you are.” There was a lot of uncertainty in his voice.

The fact that some actually remember him, catch the man off guard. He honestly believed that no know remembered. It was both flattering and discomfiting. It was nice he wasn’t just another person but at the same time, the ex gym leader stun more than he thought it would. “Oh... right... yeah,” he let out in a low tone, scratching the back of his head clearly bothered by it, “That’s me.” He cleared his throat, trying to push away the discomfort.

But this mood was quickly changed as Zac had his creature launched the ball to his side, Maverick blinked as it came quickly to his side. And more importantly, straight at his infernape. His heart race, suddenly deeply wanting to win. “Sovar, Thunder Punch that Spheal back at them!” The fire and fighting type, who had no idea what was going on, was swift to follow his command. Leaping up into the air to get closer, the infernape drew his arm back. And when close, spark skipped across his fist as he pounded it into the creature in hopes to send it back at them.

To Maverick surpsied, Sovar’s hit somehow got them a point. He blinked in shock, even as Zac complimented them on their score. Again, he looked to him slightly puzzled. He was never good at sports but apparently, he was half decent at this one. Or at least, for now. “Ahhh,” he managed to get out in his disbelief, “Yeah. Thanks.” His gaze turned to his Infernape who too, seemed surpassed. “Nice job, Sovar.” The infernape grinned, happy that he did something right for once.

As Maverick and his team readied for the next match to start, he couldn’t help but give a light chuckle at Zac team motivation speech. Whatever works, right? He would give it to his team but honestly, he was still lost.

Suddenly, the ground began to quake and sent one of his creature into the air as another sent the little spheal in their direction with such great force. Maverick panicked slightly, rushing forward to hit the ball back. However, his feet didn’t agree as he fell and face planted that sand. The machamp rushed over to the ball, fist took on a brilliant red glow before he DYNAMIC PUNCHed the ball back over.

With a face full of sand, Mav scrambled to his feet just in time to see the spheal be launched back over the next and hit the ground with a soft thud. His gaze flickered to his machomp, impressed that the creature did that before turning back to Zac. Brows scrunched while he retrieved his spheal from the pit, wondering if the pokemon was even still alive after that hit. To his surprise, the little pokemon they were using as a ball was alright and was sent through the air again.

Wiping the sand off his face the best he could, the trainer kept his eyes on the ball. And when the ball reached its peak over the center, Maverick shouted "Get it". The Machomp rushed to get it, but a sudden chill ran down spine freezing him and making him miss the ball completely. The lucario dived in an attempt to knock the ball back but it was too late.

“Damn,” the man managed to himself before turning to gathering the ball. He snatched the Spheal off the ground. “Two to one, right?”. Turning to his Luacrio, he handed the pokemon to her. Sheona took the ball and moved into position. She tossed the ball high into the air. And when it started its descend, she leaped up into the air and use METEOR MASH to sent it back towards Zac and his crew.

The Lucario managed to get the ball on the other side without much issue. The only probably was, the Machamp was still frozen from the last it. With their eyes on the spheal, they watched as the two worked together to sent the ball right back at them. Unfortunately, the ball was heading in Dom’s direction. Being unable to move, the ball hit the ground with thud and peppered rocks at his muscular frame. The trainer sighed, letting his infernape get the ball. How long was he going to be frozen for?

“Alright,” Mav grunted, shifting his weight while giving the fire and fighting type a firm nod, “We are tied now but not for long.” The infernape tossed the ball into the air, eyes gaze locked on the ball until it made its descend back to earth. And when the ball was at the perfect height, the infer napes fist took on a brilliant red glow as he use CLOSE COMABT to send the ball into the air and back to the other side. “Nice one,” the man shouted in a praise, hoping the other team won’t be able to return it.

To his surprise, the lucario was able to hit the ball so fast and hard that it smacked the sleeping legendary in the head. The spheal accidentally froze the creature and landed on the ground. At least for now, they both had a pokemon out. Maverick’s gaze flickered to the Lucario who jumped in victory. “We haven’t won yet,” the man called out, his gaze returned to the other side as they readied to serve, “Keep your eyes on he ball.”

The ball was launched over the net swiftly, crashing down on the lucario and freeze it in place. Maverick tried to dive and save the it, but he was too late. The ball hit the ground and the point went to his opponent. Mav got to his feet, a sigh escaped him at it looked like it was just him and his Infernape now. He gave the creature a nod, tossing the ball to the creature in hopes it would get them another point. The infernape hit the ball with all his might using his ACROBATICS in hopes to save the game.

Yes! He scored! And now, they somehow leveled the playing field. Both trainers only had one pokemon that was unfrozen. This was it. Him and his Infernape versus those two. Maverick glared at Sovar, giving him a firm nod. They got this.

Both human and pokemon readied themselves, eyes on the ball even as the ground sprang with greenery. They couldn’t worry about it. The ball was what they needed to focus on. And when Zac jumped and slapped the ball, Maverick had to admit he has never seen something jump that high before. The ball came in fast, warm orbs widened as he ran to smack the ball back. Unfortunately, his hit was piss poor. The ball bounced towards the out of bounds area.

“Sovar! Hit it!”

The Infernape took in a deep breath. The taste of the thick toxic substance tickled his thread. And when the ball was just about to reach the out of bounds area, Sovar sent waves of toxic sludge at the spheal in hopes it would put it back on track. And to Maverick’s surprise, it worked. The GUNK SHOT hit the ball just in time to send it back at Zac and his team. His heart raced, waiting to see if they manage to hit the ball back.
